Matt Mills - SIGNED

Recommended Posts

I've been doing a bit of ferreting about because I seemed to remember that Wolves have a very strict wage structure. I found a reference to them regarding an attempt to sign Craig Gardner from Villa about 12 months ago when the cap is obviously less than 21k p.w. as they state they won't pay that as it exceeds the wage structure maximum. Might make a difference on the Prem-v-Championship issue when it gets down to the nitty gritty.

Don't you find it funny that Sven is signing/signed/apparently interested in signing all these players he had at Man City that he hardly played.. Darius Vassell, Kasper Schmeichel, Ben Mee, Ched Evans, Matt Mills...

(I know Vassell played a lot of games for Man City, but just saying)

He have to choice between Hart and Schmeikel and he choose Hart and were is he now!

As a very young goalkeeper and Sven was only there one season - 8 games isn't bad at all.

He played a lot of Notts County though.

I don't see whats wrong with it if he knows a player has potential and he can get the best out of them (or better) then why not? It's better than spending (read as gambling) £3-6million on unproven foreigners.

And most of these players have got a few years in them which is most important. Who is the oldest player we have been linked with? Not counting the 'marquee' signings we have been linked with

To be honest I wouldn't trust what the Express & Star (the Guess & Star we call them nowadays) say. They aren't particularly in the know these days as the club aren't too fond of them. They run some awful speculative shit these days and have been wrong on several occasions.

Same goes for Tim Nash on twitter who writes for the E&S. McCarthy apparently commented he should be called Shit Man instead.

And whilst it's exciting throwing all this money around, aren't any of you a little bit worried too? These Thais have no connection to the club and would probably sell up and leave you in the shit if they thought it best for themselves.

I'm not saying they will, and aren't trying to piss on you chips or anything. Good luck to you, but hasn't the likes of West Ham, Birmingham and Portsmouth taught these foreign owners anything?!!

I'm excited and terrified at the same time. It could all end in shit but it'll be an interesting ride.

As for the Thais upping and leaving, indications are that they're here for the long haul (from sources inside the club too). There was also something about Top being a Leicester fan if I remember right. They could still tell us to get to fuck mind. If we don't get promoted this season it'll be interesting to see what happens. I say interesting, I mean demoralising.

It's alright mate! We won't be in trouble not yet anyway if we don't go up this season then we may. But so many teams are owned by foreigners apart from really you, wigan, and everton. :scarf:

Indeed... It`ll all end in tears.

The difference is between our owners and their owners is the fact its not just the team their pumping money into, Its the Training ground, The stadium I.E, Big screens, electronic turnstiles (maybe). after we played Man City, the state of our pitch was criticized so Sven asked to have it relaid, and they obliged. They are also setting up training complexes in Asia to help boost Asian football. But the main thing that stands out is that Top flies over from Thailand to stand in the rain and watch the youth team. I know a few people around the club and to be honest they are overwhelmed by how much time and effort these guys put into the club. Their goal isn't to make money, its to own a football team in the premier league and their willing to do what ever they can to make it happen.

True they have no real affiliation to Leicester but why would they but this money in and then just leave for peanuts? It is not good business and they would be wasting their time. From the outside looking in they have certainly putting significant money in but they are building from the ground up. Investment in the training ground, setting up academies abroad and expanding the Leicester brand in their country of Thailand have been the most notable investments in that area. Only time will tell but they seem to be in it for the long haul.

They seem to be in it for the long haul though. They are doing alot to improve the facilities and improve the ground some more. They are also trying to publicise football and their company in Thailand using Leicester City. They acknowledge you cant just throw money at a football club and want to run it for profit but they also understand they have to be in PL for this. Theyve paid 1mil for real madrid to come iver because they know they can sell tv rights and sell tickets to make a profit off it. They know what theyre doing and have demonstrated this with their business KingPower. Theyre certainly better than blackburns muppets

Of course, but what can we do about it? Demonstrate against them spending money?

Whilst they have no connection, everything they have done so far has been first class. Not just the backing they have given, but little bits here and there that nobody other than city fans probably hear about.

Who knows what will happen, we're Leicester City it's always a roller coaster with us, on or off the pitch.

I suspect plenty of foreign owners are willing to invest in a Chamionship club as the rewards for promotion in increased revenue means the club's value rockets.

You could easily end up with a £20m+ wage bill after paying all these players lower PL wages and then what if you don't manage to get up this season. Are your owners going to bankroll that wage bill for another 12 months whilst paying even more transfer fees and wages for the next season? It's a risky strategy, especially without any parachute payments.

As for foreign owners in the PL, well almost all of them have huge club debts, even with PL revenues. I'd imagine it'd be even more costly in the Championship unless you get promoted very quickly.

Apologies for taking this thread off topic btw!!

It wouldn't surprise me to see us pull out of the Mills deal now if the bids go over our valuation. He means different things to our two clubs. For us he is a promising player who we'd hope can make the step up quickly, whereas for you he's already proven in your division so want him to help get you up. A lot of Wolves fans would prefer more PL experience in our defence.

I think pretty much all of us are concerned to some degree or another but we're fans and have no control over it do we? All we can do is enjoy the ride at the moment and hope it all works out. The posts above already give you your answer.

I think one of the major differences with our owners is that they've really made themselves involved in the club and intertwined it with King Power, if they did pull out and leave us in the lurch. its their reputation thats at stake which is worth more than money to business men who are trying to grown their brand on different continents. Its not like they can skulk back to Abu Dhabi or Monaco or somewhere and never be heard of again, it defeats the purpose of them buying the club to advance their own business.

Reading determined to fend off Wolves interest in skipper

Brian McDermott has confirmed that Reading have rejected a bid from Wolves for captain Matt Mills.

Skysports.com reported last week that the Premier League side have had two offers for Mills turned down, with the second believed to have been in the region of £3million.

Leicester are now thought to have joined the race for the 24-year-old centre-half, who is believed to be valued at around £4m by Reading.

And while manager McDermott said that Wolves have had a bid rejected, he insists the Royals are not looking to cash in on their prize asset.

Way off valuation

"We've had an offer from Wolves for Matt Mills which we turned down," he told The Chronicle.

"It was way off our valuation and that was that. I don't know if they will come back for more - they may do - but I don't want to encourage clubs to bid for our players either.

"That's not part of my agenda. I want to keep our squad together, and add to it if possible."

Mills joined Reading from Doncaster in 2009 for a fee in the region of £2m and last season he helped the Royals reach the Championship play-off final, where they were beaten 4-2 by Swansea.
