Alexikokopops Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Glendenning has his moments. On the podcast he is almost always outstanding, but his desperate negativity about England really winds me up (as it should). After we got promoted to the Championship in 2009, I posted asking in Barry could name 5 Leicester players. Between the entire panel they named Fryatt, Hobbs and... Kieran Gibbs, who we all remember having such a successful season. Anyway, I guess that's not their job. I find Ronay to be a bit of a dullard, Ashdown quite funny (he writes well too), Steinberg has his moments (although the article he came out with about Ronaldo's hat-trick against Man United the other day was stinking). Jonathan Wilson I find better in book form than in articles. His latest offering (it's linked on the Grauniad website) about a fantasy tournament between the world's greatest club teams is a complete waste of his (and my) time. I quite like Rob Smyth's writing too. Yeah, they are heavily Premiership based (apart from Ashdown), but they do have an excellent Football League blog network which is well supported by them. It's certainly helped people like Fez and the Seventy Two. Barry Glendenning tickles me. I'm not as fussed about the negativity of the England team. I've also met him an an awards thing (for which Fez was nominated for the above blog) and he lent me a lighter and chatted to me so that always goes down well I always like Ronay I have to admit. I like WIlson mainly because it's nice to have that different view that you don't usually get, although I agree that he's better in books than articles. And I knew I missed more people. I like Rob Smyth, both for his football and his cricket. He's superb on the over-by-over reports. Have you checked out the Blizzard yet? It was started by Wilson but has a lot of writers like this. I've been meaning to check it out for a while now but haven't got round to it, even though I answered their original questionnaire before they even released an edition Sid Lowe, David Conn, Raf Honegstein! Football Weekly is miles ahead of anything of it's kind. Missing it. I knew there was millions I'd forgotten! I love Football Weekly.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Another pundit who doesn't seem to find himself on the box enough is Matt Holland. Always insightful and comes across as enthusiastic, articulate and intelligent. Can actually listen to him speak without wanting to take my own life, unlike Alan 'he done it good' Shearer.

The idea's appealing in principle but then again the prospect of Jonathan Wilson rambling on unedited about the 1976 Minsk derby puts me off. Back on topic, another "proper" pundit I like is Graeme Souness. Although that must have been said elsewhere.
kierz Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I think Pearce is allright, but listening to him always makes me think about Robot Wars. Pearce is a chest beating Thicko... so say my lifelong season ticket holding pal @ MCFC do I agree? no, but it made me laugh
IronHidez Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Don Goodman When ever we are playing on Sky Sports all he does it moan about Leicester When we romp the league this year Take that Don
accessory Posted 9 July 2011 Author Posted 9 July 2011 Goodman, Beagrie and Birtles really don't do Sky any favours, especially in games involving City.
Izzet is God Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 1) Garth Crooks 2) Garth Crooks 3) Garth Crooks 4) Garth Crooks 5) Garth Crooks 6) Garth Crooks 7) Garth Crooks 8) Garth Crooks 9) Alan Shearer 10) Garth Crooks 11) Garth Crooks... 1,000,000) Garth Crooks Totally agree....I absolutely can't stand the bloke
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 How the **** is Pleat only number 2? He literally cannot win anything ever can he? The guy who had Crooks from 1-10 is my choice as well, who the fcuk actually interviewed him and thought he could do this could only work for the BBC.
Stadt Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Rosenthal is absolutely shocking but not really a pundit imagine a staring contest between Adrian Chiles and Jim Rosenthal !
FoxesAreBlue Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 How has nobody mentioned John Barnes? - awful, makes me want to two-foot my telly
NeilyBoy Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 He's not been used since but I had to drag this out of the archives: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUeu3Iain28 Unintelligible and unprofessional.
martinrowland Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Who is the Northern Irish bloke who used to do the UEFA games on channel 5 football? Think he done a few MOTD 2's towards the end of this season as well.. Always liked him, he's cheerful unlike some of the other stuttering moody ones
Bert Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Alan Green? Not going through the thread, but I'm sure Andy "Not Irish" Townsend has been mentioned.
Craig Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Can't believe Steve Claridge hasn't been mentioned. Absolutely love the guy for what he achieved with us, but football pundit... no.

Not one of my favourites - too pro-scouse and anti-Manc for my tastes.
Brown Fox Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Peter Beagrie for me. The icing on the cake was when he went out at half time or during the snow break at Ipswich with about 3 inches of snow on him and with the soles of his feet disappearing and rolled a ****ing ball that went about 20cm then said it was fine to play on. I'm not bitter or anything
Bugg Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Alan Green? Not going through the thread, but I'm sure Andy "Not Irish" Townsend has been mentioned. Agree with you there, Alan Green is a massive berk.
accessory Posted 25 June 2012 Author Posted 25 June 2012 This thread needs a bump. Here are my worst top 10 from Euro 2012: 1) Mark Lawrenson (part-time Englishman) 2) Andy Townsend (see above) 3) Craig Burley 4) Jim Beglin 5) Robbie Savage 6) Adrian Chiles 7) Alan Shearer 8) Alan Hansen 9) Mark Bright 10) Mick McCarthy Many of the above make even Jamie Redknapp seem knowledgeable and talented in front of a mike...
Mack Posted 25 June 2012 Posted 25 June 2012 Does Adrian Chiles count as a pundit? Maybe not, but he counts as a useless annoying gnome of a man. ITV Sport is a disgrace.
Finnegan Posted 25 June 2012 Posted 25 June 2012 I don't mind Jim Beglin to be honest and I find McCarthy ****ing hilarious. The best is Gordon Strachan, he's very clever and hugely witty with it. Really undervalued as a tv pundit.
Captain... Posted 25 June 2012 Posted 25 June 2012 Carragher was awful on ITV, even when he squeaked out some sense, which he rarely did, it was like listening to a depressed rodent with a chip on its shoulder the whole time. Compared to the sonic attack from Carra, Patrick Viera gave aural pleasure with his soft sexy French accent. It is embarrassing when a frog can speak the language better than our home grown "talent".
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 June 2012 Posted 25 June 2012 Everyone on itv is shit. So poor as pundits generally chat for ever. They just go on and on and on. Jim bastard Beglin is the worst as well as Townsend.
