kingfox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 But reading a few pages into that forum one good performance and there all bumming him off.
Leonisco Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Really starting to feel the excitement for this season now Lets sell the best Defender in the leauge and replace him with .............. Paul McShane. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7025336,00.html The Royals look set to lose Matt Mills this summer after it emerged earlier on Thursday that a fee had been agreed with Championship rivals Leicester. McShane has now been identified as a potential replacement and Reading manager Brian McDermott is believed to be considering a move. 25-year-old McShane admitted last month that he was unsure whether he had a future at Hull after being sent out to Barnsley for a loan spell last season. McShane has previously spent time with Walsall, Brighton, West Brom and Sunderland, having started his senior career at Manchester United. . Paul McShane is wank!
sdb Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 This is what Reading fans thought of him in March, before they were influenced by the thought of him leaving: http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=104489&st=0&sk=t&sd=a Not too popular! worst captain ever on p1 to world beater on p8 after a good performance. I'll read that forum with a generous pinch of salt.
nickelbyfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Just want to say I'm ecstatic we got our man!!!!!!!!!!!! Akinbiyi still our top transfer fee though
millzi Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Absolutely quality! Well played Top & Sven! Now let's go out and get Maynard to complete the jigsaw puzzle *Jizzsaw
ScoutMan Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Reading FC fans talk out there ar****! Never for one minute like them. Bunch of big timers. They think hes from Swindon, one of there rivals but cant accept he was there best player and now gone.
Fox92 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Sensational signing. I haven't been this excited about a signing since Wellens signed. Quality centre half at this level, maybe even good enough for the Premiership as well. Very, very good in the air, great leap, nice and tall, strong and reads the game well hence always in the correct position. So happy that Mills has signed for Leicester, there is no doubt that the club can bring quality players to the club. Reading FC fans talk out there ar****! Never for one minute like them. Mills' home debut (in the league) might be interesting, seeing how Reading fans respond to him.

There does, if I am honest appear to be a common theme about Mills on the Reading boards...... a little too slow, not quite the footballing brain, plays well for the cameras but otherwise some really poor outings...... Jury's still out for me, I'll watch him play and go from there - hope it's all just sour grapes. I think if you go to games to see goals, the unselfish work and deeds of centre halfs go un-noticed. This signing is far better than anything we have in my opinion - just a little surprised that they don't speak a tad higher of their captains footballing abilities. Oh sorry, ex-captain.

They also talk about him being a bully on the pitch, putting his foot in and being a talker at the back screaming at others. Hobbs was a bit slow and wasn't good with the ball also, but he didn't offer any of those other things which I think we missed big time. As you say the jury is still out.

Yes he is still prone to the odd mistake, who isn't. The reason for many Reading fans dislike like of him was more to do with a couple of antics that were not really anything to do with his game. If he is better than what you have already got, he is a good signing, although £5 million is more than we could have dreamt of for him. One thing is for sure, he is a better CB than anything that we have left so let's hope we get it right again in the budget department. I have no doubt he will be a big player for you, he's a big game player so if you get off to a flyer and every game becomes a big game, he'll be your player of the season.

w27 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 good signing for you imo although i'd only paid 3m tops didnt want him to sign for wolves as he was weakest defender we've been linked with, but he does have the potential to play at higher level should you gain promotion looks like win/win for all off us (baring we sign prem defender instead such as bassong/johnson)
bald reynard Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 It will help that Mills will already know quite a few of the City players well. He played 2 seasons with Schmeichel (in Man City Reserves, admittedly !) - and 2 (full) seasons with Wellens at Doncaster. He'll also have trained with the likes of Vassell (for 3 years) at Manchester - and a few of the players linked with us recently (Ched Evans, Ben Mee & Michael Ball).

Thats all well and good but If Ched Evans signs for us then im selling my season ticket. Mills or no Mills!
Guest MattP Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Dont think we need too many opinions from Reading fans, most of us saw enough last season as Reading were on the box 9-10 times. He is a quality player, captain/mainstay of one of the better sides in the division last year, saw enough of him to know he improves our team. Of course we have paid over the odds, thats the position we are in now, anyone we want another couple of mill will go on top of what he is actually worth.
bald reynard Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Thats all well and good but If Ched Evans signs for us then im selling my season ticket. Mills or no Mills! I wouldn't mind Evans IN ADDITION to Maynard / Sharp / Heskey (or even Yakubu !) etc, but not at the expense of them. He'd be a good squad player - and let us cash in (a bit !) from selling Howard (he'd be a straight replacement). I think having the option of Evans (and / or Waggie / Derbyshire / North Korean guy) on the bench would be pretty good.
Jonezy Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 A warm welcome to Matt! Hopefully, he will be the guy to lead the defense for years to come, actually he better be with that price tag....

A very sensible post nick and i agree with ya I think mills could be city's best signing in some time, fingers crossed

Reading fans are going to say he's rubbish or whatever now he's left, but everytime I have seen him play, Mills has been dominant and important for Reading. And, I know Reading fans and supportors of other clubs are saying we paid too much, but we really did need a quality centre back at this level. I don't think we could get one under 5million; both Danns and Johnson are rated higher than that at Birmingham etc Overall, I'm happy. Don't care what the footballing world, including Reading fans think, in my opinion at the age of just 24, Mills will prove to be good business by Sven once again.
Unit Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 THE DEBATE HAS BEEN SETTLED. IanStringerBBC Ian Stringer Matt Mills interview done. Nice chap. Born in Leicester, Rothley boy comes home!!!
The Don Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 He's just intimated on his twitter that something went on regarding the move. Any idea people?
Stevosevic Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 The guy is clearly a playboy - he gets tweets from Charlotte Jackson. CharLouJackson Charlotte Jackson @realmattmills5 so @markmcadamtv told me to congratulate you on your move! So well done- hv a gd season x
