Leicester City have tonight (Thursday) completed the signing of defender Matt Mills, who joins the Club from Reading for an undisclosed fee.

Matt successfully passed a medical at King Power Stadium on Thursday before putting pen to paper on a four-year contract, taking the Foxes' number of summer acquisitions to six.

Mills, 24, joins City after two years with the Royals, the side he led to the Championship play-off final as captain last term.

City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "Matthew is a quality defender and we are delighted to have secured his services. Understandably, there was a lot of interest in him, but he is the latest player to pledge his commitment to us, which is another great endorsement for the work we are doing here at Leicester City.

"I worked with Matthew when I was the manager of Manchester City and it was clear he had talent then. He has since developed in to one of the best defenders outside of the Premier League.

"He is strong, composed and he is a natural leader. Matthew is a good talker and a real team player. He fits the criteria that we are looking for and I am sure that the supporters will be pleased to have Matthew wearing the blue shirt."

"I would like to finish by thanking the owners for their support again," Eriksson added. "Our ambition to reach the Premier League is being underlined each day and their vision and commitment is first class."

Mills began his career with Southampton and had spells on loan with Coventry and Bournemouth before Manchester City paid £250,000 to take him to the City of Manchester Stadium in January 2006.

He made his Premier League debut at Chelsea in March of that year before beginning loan spells with Colchester United and Doncaster Rovers, helping Rovers to promotion from League 1 in 2008 before agreeing a permanent transfer in a club record deal that July.

Mills' time with the Yorkshire club lasted just one more season as he continued to impress at the heart of the Rovers' defence, prompting Reading to enter the race for his signature.

After joining the Royals for a reported £2million in August 2009, he made 75 appearances and scored eight times, including the winner in Reading's 2-1 win over City in August last year and a goal in the play-off final defeat to Swansea City at Wembley.

Mills could make his home debut at King Power Stadium when the Foxes host Spanish giants Real Madrid on Saturday July 30.

:scarf: We could spend £10 in the space of a few days if we're succesful with Maynard. I'm staggered. We've got a boss defence now. I predict the lowest Goals Against in the league. :scarf:

My skin tingles!

welcome matt. The last person to arrive here with your kind of price tag, turned out to be a proper koont.

No pressure of course.

Edit. welcome matt :crylaugh:

Yay! Welcome Matty. Big weight on his shoulders, hope it spurs him on and he stays away from this red mist we've been hearing about.

A player i've wanted here for a couple of years now, fantastic.

Wow. Just wow.

Just have a think for a moment about this year's signings against any previous year you can think of. This is the most excited I've been pre-season that I can remember. And I've been a fan for a long time now!

G'won Sven! :scarf: :sge:

Cue the odd Reading FC fans' comments: "He's shit", "Cost us too much", "overrated", overpriced", blablabla.

And the Brizzle Rovers bunch will now be even more nervous about losing Maynard.
