Ian pcp Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I do think that 5 million plus is just a wee bit steep but at least his name is Matt. I seem to remember that mr. Elliott was not a bad buy, mind you he didn't cost 5 million!!!!!
The Voice Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I wasn't sure which topic to write this under and didn't want to start a new thread so chose this one, but i have just been reading some of the s***e put on matt mills twitter page he has recieved some proper abuse as well as mr danns i read a rangers fan wanted hunt him down and burn his house down. I that players move for money(wouldn't you), but do we all not do that in our normal working life, admittedly our money is slightly lower, but for f sake don't we all do it when we move to a new job. I think the whole twitter thing is getting totally out of hand. On a cheerier note what a f**king good signing Mr mills is just what we needed Leicester have been known for great centre half halfs and matt is in the mold to join that crew. Welcome to the club matt and keep off twitter

Welcome to the club matt and keep off twitter i do a job where i can work my balls off for 33'000 a year (basic) or be a lazy shite hiding away in corners for the same money, so i choose largely to work my balls off as morally thats the professional thing to do. i guess what im saying is money is a motive for some but not all, if for example i was a Leicester player and on 10'000 a week and got offered 30'000 a week to go to the red scum, i personally would turn it down as i prefer job satisfaction and overall happiness to just pure greed money but having said that i know generally where you are coming from and agree mostly thats what happens

I agree totally if you earn the sort of money football players do what is the differnece between £30K a week and £35K ffs you will live very handsomly but i suppose the more you have the more you want My Point is if a company/football club shows no ambition and another does and offers you a wedge of cash you have got to think about it, and that what happens Sad but money talks
Happy Fox Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Interesting article, Mills on the reasons why he left Reading http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2095942_mills_why_i_quit_reading_fc_for_leicester_city? Matt Mills quit Reading for Leicester City to chase his Premier League dream. Royals received an initial £4.5million for the centre-back, but that fee will be boosted by another £1million if Sven-Göran Eriksson’s Foxes go up. Mills missed out on promotion to the Premier League with Reading last season and he believes he has more chance of going up with Eriksson’s side. He said: “The new owners have shown what they are about in terms of the players they are bringing in and what they are trying to do. “So I would like to thank them for targeting me and bringing me in. “I have always said I want to play in the Premier League, but it is playing in the Premier League at the right club, at the right time. “Hopefully, that will be with Leicester City. “Now is about looking forward and this is the start of a new chapter for me. I am really excited to be here and hopefully go one step further than last year.” Follow Royals reporter Jonny Fordham on Twitter here Top-flight side Wolves had been keen on Mills and they made the first move in the race to sign the former Doncaster Rovers man who was signed by ex-Royals boss Brendan Rodgers for £2million in 2009. Stoke City had also shown an interest, but they never entered the bidding war for Mills’ signature. As a likely move to the Premier League wrangled on, league rivals Leicester entered the race and blew the opposition out of the water as they splashed the cash. And when he was asked about why he shunned a top-flight move, Mills replied: “The opportunity was there, but these are the decisions you have to make in life and in football there are tough decisions to be made. “The way Leicester conducted themselves in the business of trying to sign me it made it a one-horse race in the end. “A few other clubs were speaking to Reading, but I was really impressed with the way Leicester handled their business in terms of targeting the player they wanted and going out and getting it. “I think sometimes people make these transfers a lot harder than they are, but if a club really wants a player they will do what they can to get him and Leicester certainly did that in my eyes and I am delighted to be here.” Mills has penned a four-year deal and it has been reported that the 24-year-old will take home £23,000 a week - making him one of the Championship’s top earners. And although he has tried to soothe the Royals fans, his transfer doers represent what is an excellent piece of business for the club for a player who could have walked away for nothing next summer. “It was a difficult decision,” added Mills who previously worked with Eriksson at Manchester City. “I had a fantastic time at Reading under the manager. He is a fantastic manager and they are a great bunch of lads. I received fantastic support as well. “Obviously, I have received stick since I moved, but at the end of the day people don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, they just see the move. “It was definitely the right thing for me. I would like to thank everyone there for what they have done for me and my career.”
sdb Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Just realised him and me were born in the same City within a week of each other. Unfortunately that's where the similarities end. I only earn £10k a week and Emma Rigby is one of the Hollyoaks cast that i've never slept with.
HoneyBadger Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Reading FC fans talk out there ar****! Never for one minute like them. Bunch of big timers. They think hes from Swindon, one of there rivals but cant accept he was there best player and now gone. I see Reading's "best player" came 7th in their online poll for player of the season in May with a whopping 4 votes - http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=105482&start=80 Hmmm.

rico Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 that is more than slightly worrying for someone we have paid 5.5million for. Yeah but McAnuff only got 1 vote
Happy Fox Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 that is more than slightly worrying for someone we have paid 5.5million for. I wouldn't take any notice of that Reading fans are just mourning his departure to us
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 I wouldn't take any notice of that Reading fans are just mourning his departure to us Not really thats a poll from May, can;t put that down to any sour grapes.
Alexikokopops Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Not really thats a poll from May, can;t put that down to any sour grapes. I reckon, if we're talking statistical significance, that with a sample size of 149 that the proportion that voted for Mills would not significantly different any players apart from Leigertwood and Long. Ignoring Leigertwood (because he was on loan last season) then we can assume that he came second in their player of the season vote PROBLEM SOLVED. Good ol' statistics. If I was at work I'd actually do it out of curiosity.

No matter how ugly you maybe....so sod to emma rigby
HoneyBadger Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Mikele Leigterwood got 17 votes. Enough said. Exactly, 13 more than Mills! On page 3 of that thread there's also people mocking Mills even being on that shortlist. It looks like they really didn't rate him at all.

The only time they broke through 20,000 as an attendance last season was at home in the FA cup to Liverpool - just over 23,000.. their capacity is only just over 24,000 so it doesnt look like it was even sold out for that.... most attendances were below 16.000 last season...

It looks like they really didn't rate him at all. I don't think he had the best of relationships with their fans which may be why they haven't voted for Mills because they don't like him instead of looking at his playing ability when dceciding who to vote for.
B52 Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 I don't think he had the best of relationships with their fans which may be why they haven't voted for Mills because they don't like him instead of looking at his playing ability when dceciding who to vote for. He has a temper so it may affect what fans think of him. He's shouting at his own players and judges. So now we have two players, Schmeichel and Mills, shouting and pushing the limits in defence.

I give up on some people. Who do you put your faith in. A bunch of Reading fans, or Sven? Both Stoke, and Wolves wanted him, don't forget, and he has played bloody well, whenever I have seen him.
Corky Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 As long as he performs for us. Tha's what matters, not what the Reading fans think.

Guest Bilo Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Pretty sure Stoke and Wolves wouldn't have been interested if he was as bad as that.
Leicsroyal Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 I think he was sold because Reading are short on cash after missing out on promotion. Whilst I agree with you that in no way are we set up to be as big a club as Leicester. I can also understand why you have little to remember last season for, where as we have fond memories of ours. You stats are taken from 2009/2010 season!
HoneyBadger Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 To an extent I'd trust fans, who watch their players every week, over a manager, who probably has a player scouted 4 or 5 times. Although you're always going to have some anomalies, and some people that just don't read a game very well, but when there's so many fans, like in this case, who dislike or don't rate a player, then 'no smoke without fire' comes to mind.
