cc_star Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Kingy... What better way to show what your club is made of than giving it to a product of the youth academy who rose through the ranks Yes there maybe more natural leaders out there, but being captain is largely symbolic anyway & I can't think of a better thing to symbolise
carterfox90 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 def mills he could be our new walsh!!! a natural leader
gazfox9 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Matt Mills for me too. As has been mentioned, a natural leader and just what we were missing last season. Oakley will be lucky to make the bench this season and when Kingy was given the armband, it seemed more of a burden on his game than a bonus. Just let the lad play his own game. I personally like a centre half as skipper too.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Wellens without a second thought. A midfielder that will scream at a player if something wrong happens.
leicesterseddon Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Has to be Wellens as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure Mills has great leadership qualities, but Wellens has been a senior player for a few seasons now, already knows the players and has authority. To give it to Mills as a new signing would be a bit of a slap in the face to be honest. Certainly don't think it should be given to King. He's nowhere near vocal enough. Also with Danns, Wellens, Abe, Oakley (who Sven seems to like) and possibly another signing competing in the centre of midfield, it's not certain that King will be in the team every week. If you look at last season, King was fine for scoring goals against poor teams but his performances against the better sides in the division were often very poor and he had little impact - and in a promotion-chasing season, you need big-game players. Personally I think next season could be a critical one for King - he was superb for a youngster, but I'm not sure he's progressed that much since we returned to the Championship 2 years ago. My hunch is that once the season gets into full swing, he could be finding himself on the bench more often than we now think...

AmyLGK Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Wellens definitely - I thought this last season too! The man is a born leader IMO
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 would hate a player to become captain when first joining the club, needs to win everyone over first, no doubt. think kingy makes a great captain in terms of talking to the players through the game and encouraging them. hes gota be my choice. dont agree with this at all... the captain has to be the best man for the job...
Haydos Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 dont agree with this at all... the captain has to be the best man for the job... And isn't part of that knowing the players, having at least a slight relationship with the squad, being respected by the players, other players trusting him? All of these aren't the case when a new signing becomes captain.

All of these aren't the case when a new signing becomes captain. I agree with that, however, re respect, I'd imagine most of our lot will have a fair amount of that already towards him, having played against him last season, witnessed what he achieved in our division and saw the transfer fee Sven was willing to pay to land him.
