accessory Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Our owners only know him. They've done nothing wrong are dead genuine. Mandaric never bothered doing up the training ground like these have. Do you really think they'd go out to sponsor us with their successful worldwide company, re-name our stadium if they were either corrupt or in it for a fast buck. Not only would they be in a very shaky position, but more importantly for them, their well renowned name would be going through the mud. The media will do anything they can to make a story out of nothing. Absolutely. The links with us are very tenuous. Remember how the league spent months last year checking whether Vichal and Top met their "fit and proper persons" test. If there was anything remotely iffy it would have been picked up then, and Mandaric's sale of the club would have been scuppered.
john doe Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 king power is there thing they want that to be a world wide brand they will not destroy there image on us i think we should be happy we are not venkys {blackburn}
Bert Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 What worries me is not so much whether they're corrupt (looks very, very, very unlikely) or in it for a fast buck (also unlikely). It's more the idea that spending millions and getting us promoted is somehow a foolproof plan. If we don't get promoted, it doesn't bear thinking about. And even if we do get promoted, what then? How much investment is needed to eventually make us self-sufficient? The whole thing concerns me deep down. It's one big gamble and that doesn't end with promotion. It just depends what way you want to look at it. We all know this seasons plan, and if it goes tits up, I think they'll put more money in. Saying that, if we go up, they'll do that regardless.

fleckneymike Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Complete non story this. I don't know the Thais but the scam in Dispatches was to remain anonymous, now if they were up to no good they've already ballsed that up. The programme exposed nothing other than its good business to buy something cheap and sell it high.
gibraltarfox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 From what I can gather from this the idea is to buy a club cheap, keep a low profile, loan a load of players (united or otherwise), get promotion and sell up for a tidy profit. What the Thai's have done is the complete opposite. They've plastered their respected company name on the shirt and stadium, bought or signed players on minimum 3 year contracts and all the talk so far seems to suggest top 6 of the prem is the aim. Add that to the fact our takeover was the first to go through the tightened fit and proper persons checks there really doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about here. Let the FA poke around if they want to poke around... If they find something they didn't find 12 months ago I'd be amazed. They're clearly looking for a way to promote the King Power brand in England and, as football fans, figured buying a club, effectively turning us into King Power FC and getting us into the biggest league in the world would be as good a way as any of doing it. The cost of launching a brand in a country that has no awareness of it would cost millions - This way they are getting the exposure with a good chance of a profit when they come to sell if the plan works.
sdb Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I don't feel too worried having just seen it. Our owners seem decent (I just pray they don't jump ship if/when things don't go smoothly), and nothing in there really surprised me anyway. It's a shame football is run that way and I hope there are some serious changes, but it wasn't shocking stuff to me (although maybe that says something about the football world in itself).
The People's Hero Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I thought it was going to be a bit more Blue Peter like. I had my sticky back plastic, toilet roll cardboard bits and scissors ready and feel a bit cheated I don't now own a football club.

Chazwaz Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 If our owners hadn't re-named the stadium, done up the training ground and relaid the pitch twice with highly expensive grass. Then I might be worried. In all fairness they are using Leicester to promote King Power just look at the stadium name and what's on the front of the shirt, they are not in it just for the money they are using Leicester as an advertising tool.
Bettsj2 Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 The only thing I would take from the program is what an absolute disgrace Brian Robson is.
foxoffderby Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Is it worth watching? Watching it now sky+ it very good. Bryan Robson won of the great players I grew up with in th 80's, gone down in my books. One greedy bastard how much money do these people need? "Footballs a business not a sport"
funkyrobot Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 The only thing I would take from the program is what an absolute disgrace Brian Robson is. Never mind him, what about Bryan robson?
Karljohn Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Watched it, and thought it was a load of bollocks, suppose it makes for "good television" but Robson has always been a tosser, captain fantastic my arse, he spent more time on the treatment table in his player career. Who can blame the thais if they want to pump 30-40m into our club only to recoup 100m on exit, the amount of sponsor money they are bringing into the club cannot be small sums either, singha beer, air asia sponsoring bloody goal kicks, these boys do look genuine, but of course are not yet exempt from having their asses kicked all the way back to bangkok if they do leave us in the brown stuff.
Phlashman Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I agree with many people here, the link to us in tenuous at best. This dodgy guy is from Thailand and involoved in football so that chances he'd know our owners and visa versa are quite high. If your on the dodge you don't go plastering your name on everything to do with the club, you don't turn up in sweden for a training exercise against a 3rd division team and you certainly don't sign players for over the odds, on huge wages for 3 year+ contracts if you're planning to cut and run. Surprisingly I think in our best defense here is Sven. The main thing this guy was supposedly offering was his connections via Man U to get loan players. Why would we get Sven and his contact book at great cost if this guy was going to use his contacts? Why not keep Pearson and give Fergie the call? Yeah, we might be viewing this with rose-tinted glasses. But when you look at the facts our owners have at least earnt the benefit of doubt on this.

Why not keep Pearson and give Fergie the call? After the Munto finance debacle, I don't think Sven can be used as a defence for anything. That said, I'm very much leaning toward the view your blokes wouldn't plaster their brand name on everything if they were about to do anything at all that could be seen as 'a bit dodgy'. Brand identity's important, just ask Rupert Murdoch.
MrSpaM Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Does anybody else think this other part of the consortium we bought out not so long ago, that we didnt quite know who it was, might have been this dodgy guy?
