Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Do worry that he's a confidence player. McDermott is clearly a great man manager and whilst players generally love Sven, I'm not sure he's quite the same style. Still excited by the prospect but I'm wary of the (apparent) price, seems odd that we don't seem to be willing to go that high for Maynard. I will reiterate the Wurzels are not willing to sell to us, Reading on the other hand will, Shane Long will be a good player even if he has a bad spell he will still work very hard for the team
John Matrix Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 yeh but we sold fryatt for a genuine reason, he was crap ! if he hadn't had his jaw broken he would have hit 20 goals
Callabinho Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Be careful to gloat though even if you do go up. Id be shitting myself if we had some dodgy owners with Sven 'kid in a candy shop' Erikkson in charge. Still, best of luck. Wait until you come to the king power, and then go to our training ground, then come back on here and justify why they are dodgy.
lestajigs Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 apparantly bid of 7.5 million accepted with 500,000 in add ons How you no this????

I detect a hint of jealousy in your post! why is it that because we have new owners who are happy to splash the cash does everybody now dislike us! Leicester fans have been to hell and back what with administration and all when we were in league 1 we were stll pulling in 20,000 a game we both know that wouldnt be the case if Reading went down because your attendances are poor in the championship. Leicester fans deserve everything thats happening to them at the minute because they are some of the most loyal in the country.

Bettsy82 Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 if he hadn't had his jaw broken he would have hit 20 goals possibly but why does breaking your jaw mean you comeback a stone overweight and with a babyish attitude the guy is a good league 1 striker hence the reason he scored so many for us and walsall at that level. He will score goals in the championship but will never be prolific.
stourbridgefox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Every Leicester home game is being televised on Thai free to view TV this season. This has attracted some big name sponsors in Asia which should go some way to paying for the likes of Long and counts as revenue rather than debt. So no problems there!

Yeah your right, i think any other team in the championship would love to have big spending power, and unfortunately money is more important than anything else these days, teams like yourself and Man City are showing that. Just dont be too cocky just yet, i remember going away to a friendly match with Notts County when they had the supposed big money coming in, before the match even started they started mocking us by waving £10 notes as if to suggest they were more wealthy. Look how that turned out. Probably back down to League 2 next season.

We are not gloating I think you will find that having money doesn't guarantee success but the team we are assembling has the best chance to win the title,

I think sven has bought all the right players and if you actually look how much he has spent it works out to £1m per player which isnt a lot. I think everybody knows we need a 20 goal striker and Long is exactly that so im all for it. You must be pissed at the appointment of Mclaren you can put a brave face on it but the guy is a complete turnip his signings have been appalling Forest have the nucleus of a great side young fast and exciting football. So who does he sign Boateng and greening both has beens I think its hilarious.
Ozwin Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I think most people are as pessemistic as ever to be honest. We could be the richest club in the universe and we'd still be cynical about it all. It's just the Leicester way haha.

I think Greening is a good signing considering we need an experienced head who can also cross the ball. Andy Reid also has a good eye for a ball too but i just can't see who is going to put those crosses in the back of the net! I was also a little hesitant with McClaren but if he turns out to be good then il be happy. Got a world of experience and is good friends with Fergie etc so possibly could get some loanees of them.. Just for the record i put 10 quid on you to win the championship and Man City to win the premier, so i wont be too annoyed if you do it!
Libertine Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 In what way are they dodgy, please explain? They're foreign, so naturally they are.
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 In what way are they dodgy, please explain? He probably watched the panorama program and made his deductions from that
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 £7.5m is absolutely ridiculous. It would be very steep if he had 4 years to run on his contract. To those saying it doesn't matter how much we spend, let me assure you - it absolutely does matter because of Financial Fair Play. I believe that this kicks in in the Championship from next season (i.e. that will be the first monitoring period - although as our aim is the Premier League this is almost an irrelevance - European FFP rules are in place already). Any expenditure made now on players with more than a 1-year deal will therefore impact on our accounts in those years. For example, if we sign Long for £7.5m on a 5-year deal, this is effectively charged at £1.5m a year to the club's Income Statement, and is £1.5m a year that we need to recoup to break-even for accounting purposes, even though the cash outlay is occurring this year. If we paid £6m, it would give us an additional £300k a year to play with in each of those years. No point in overpaying, especially when Maynard would surely be available cheaper. The new financial thing is an irrelevance as King Power can just sponsor the ground for £20m a season if they want. It is nothing more than a gesture from football after so much crticism with regards to the way clubs are run.

Libertine Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I'd have taken Greening, decent player. Not now though, we're well stocked in midfield.
