  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

Mmm you didnt sell mills 2 stay afloat? there does'nt seem 2 b an abundance of names bein linked with u, u know aswelas us that cheque went straight in ur chairmans sky rocket. u also have all asumptions were not gona gel. Well here's an assumuption of my own we go up champions and u lot stay mid table cuz u lost ur best players 2 us and ur chairman is 2 tight and shite 2 splash this 13 mil u seem 2 b gloating about!

Guys I know this is predominantly banter but I for one don't think we should be too hard on the Reading fans or the Club.

In terms of success they have achieved a fair degree of it in recent years and play their football at a decent ground, with a reasonable level of support and have not had the same financial issues that we as a club have had to deal with over the last few years.

Reading fans are bound to be getting uptight at the thought of last seasons squad being slowly dismantled, if indeed that is the case, and they are only protecting their own territory as we would in their situation.

I can't remember who wrote it on this thread but somebody asked a very valid question which was "never mind Shane Long, what about Reading's scouting system.

All in all a decent club with a fair following and before people start harping on about why are their fans coming on here commenting on our boards ask yourselves the question what you would be doing if the tables were turned?

if you can show me where I was gloating I will gladly apologise. I think I said more along the lines of our jealousy that we didn't have £13m to spend.

Our Chairman made it clear from the outset that the transfer money from Mills would not be spent on players but would be used to balance the books.

'Lost' is not the word that I would have used in our players coming to you. You made an offer for Mills that we couldn't wait to accept and we haven't lost Long to you yet. As stated before the only thing that will be holding this up, if you have offered £7m, is that the player himself probably doesn't see you as the big club at present that he has aspirations for.

Long and McDermott have a superb relationship, in the first few months that the player came to Reading he stayed at McDermotts house when he was struggling to settle in. I would imagine that McDermott is almost resigned to losing Long but will be trying to get the best possible move possible for him and not just financial.

Fair play to you for replying to that strange, incoherent post.

Everyone knows we over paid for Mills, like the Reading lad said he wasn't even their best defender... We were bidding against ourselves in an effort to price Wolves out of raising their £3m rumoured valuation

Reading were selling to a rival why wouldn't they take loads of money they'll prob spend 250k on someone from the Irish league who'll be just as good.

To be fair they're scouts r very good, i did'nt think they would find someone to replace doyle but they done a descent job with long

Reading is a decent well run club with a bloody good manager, at least their fans arent as bad as the wurzels (see below for typical wurzel fans)

Long came with Doyle, we paid about £90k in total for both of them.

Boooo, boring! . I'm getting sick of this kind of deviation from threads. In comes opposition team fan banging his clubs drum. "Leicester this, Leicester that.... We don't need the money, he doesn't want to join you"

Who gives a stuff if he had a bed in Brian McDermotts house. That has nothing to do with a prospective transfer to us. The same happened in the Maynard thread too. Why do opposition fans feel the need to come on here and bleat about there players?

He is ours if we want him, there is nothing you can do about it.

Mwah, ha ha, haaaaaaaa.

Except not sell them to us like bristol city have done with Maynard

Half the decent debate is when opposing fans join in as long as theyre not dicks like half the city fans on here assuming money will buy us everything then get abusive when the club doesn't sell.

This deal is not done, why are people getting ahead of themselves!

These are exciting times to be a Leicester fan, but we are still a championship club and a long season ahead! Gaining promotion to the prem is not going to be easy like some think!

Yes we have brought in some decent players, the squad has got better!! Great!!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, and really is no need to goad other teams fans by being disrespectful

explaining why Long is not already a Leicester player if you have offered £7m is hardly deviating. All I was saying is that it might not be the money that is the influencing factor in this case.

Brian McDermott has had a massive influence on Long, so I bet he will offer him guidance regarding his next move, however if John Carew signs for west ham it could make the Long move progress.

I don't get the hostility towards the Reading posters. They've been perfectly reasonable and realistic, far from insulting and still get a bad rap.

If you look at the way they've conducted themselves compared to the Bristol City, Coventry and Derby fans who've been on here they've actually been quite good.

Yeah, after hearing McDermott on talksport yesterday, he was positively touting Long to the premier clubs, almost begging for one of them to come in for him.

It didn`t come across to me, at least, as if it was about the money they may get, more because he thinks Long deserves his chance at that level.

I`ve got to say, i`ve been hugely impressed with McDermott, not only how has he turned Reading around, but also he is very humble and respectfull, in any interviews i`ve seen from him.

McDermott has huge respect from the Reading fans, he's been at the club a long time. He has no money to throw about but has brought in some pretty decent players,

McDermott was always the one that showed huge belief in Long, you have to remember that Long was just 18 when he came to Reading. I think the money that we want for Long is around the £7m mark, I'm just not so sure that even if you offered £10m it would be enough if a prem club comes in and meets our valuation.

Agree with that. Gotta be honest, when he took over Reading the season before last and did so well I thought it would be a flash in the pan, but he more than maintained it and was a whisker away from promotion last season.

Quite like Reading and the way they have gone about things, hope they do well next season.

If he signs we will walk the league no doubt

i really do believe he is the best striker/asset outside of the premiership and probably better than many a striker in the prem.

He had a superb last season, scoring freely and a superb work rate. He's broken through into the Rep Ireland team with some great performances for them and he's only 24.

Yeah £7m is a huige amount for a championship player but if you were to sign him, get promoted and he scores 20+ for you, god only knows what he will be worth then.
