  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

They obviously can't read, as many of us have questioned the financial situation. The fact of the matter is there is **** all we can do about it.

A lot of us have questioned it and found some comfort in what we find.

1) Signs that they are in it because they want to own a Premiership team, as they believe it will raise their profile and that of their company and brand.

2) They obviously expect to earn substantial returns in Thailand from TV money and the like.

3) They are spending their money wisely.

4) They have attracted sponsorship from the likes of Singha - companies not directly related to them.

5) We actually have not spent much more over a few years than many other Championship clubs, we are just trying to do it quickly.

6) Players we are buying look likely to have reasonably good resale prospects if we find ourselves not promoted.

They have read one thread and decided we don't care, haven't questioned it once and thus deserve to go into admin again.

I sense them slowly turning into Bristol City fans.

they do seem a bit hysterical on that site. The flavour of the more thoughtful of their fans seems to incline to the more philosophical view that t hey are a selling club, the best of their players are sold every year, their chairman is not so minted that he can't see the sense in repaying himself the money he has advanced and flogging the club to anyone who will make him an offer- their scouting set up is the dogs' bits though

Every precedent is terrible and you won't convince me otherwise. I'm just going to enjoy watching class players play for us while I can and hope for nothing more.

Why does it take soo long, surely if reading was going to accept they would just do it! I know if it was me I would want to start the season with players to stay not players that may leave hoping this will be sorted and hell have his medical while playing v cov

Always a chance a premier league club could swoop in, that is ultimately what Mcdermott wants for Long.

Hahaha, sounded to me like we have made a bid. His response was *laugh* "errrrrrr, errr, i'm not that sure" *laugh*.

Hardly a straight answer. Wonder what the bid was and whether it'll be accepted

This is what worries me with our Sven. He doesn't really seem to know a great deal (no pun intended) about the transfers taking place around him. Why would the manager of a football club "not know if a bid had been put in"??!! If anybody remembers seeing the televised interview with Sven and Pantsil when he was unveiled a reporter asked Sven how long he had signed for and he genuinely did not know! How can he not know that - he actually turned to Pantsil and asked him how long he had signef for and he 'told' Sven 3 years. Not sure who looked more embarrassed Sven or Pantsil.

How can the leader of the club, the captain of the ship not know that?? Oh well in Sven we do still trust - just hope it's not blind trust!!

sorry, no offence intended but do you take everything you read or hear at face value without questioning?

Yes fair do's for the Long transfer but the Pantsil length of contract thing was just wierd! Like I say in Sven we trust but I just wonder what influence he really does have over these signings.

The Pantsil one was not bluffing mate there was no need he had already signed so nothing to hide etc. He genuinely did not know how long the club he manages had signed a player for. Sorry but i find that very strange.

im pretty sure sven only identifies his targets, then leaves the negotiating of transfer fees and contracts to andrew neville

True dat. I think some people take Football Manager a bit literally in their interpretation of what a manager actually does.

Some toys are landing a LONG way from the prams (pun intended)

We're not in 2005 any more. They have to face up to the fact that our sugar daddy (ie Vichal) is considerably bigger and richer then theirs (Madejski).

And if Madejski decides his side can no longer compete, and wants to turn Reading into our feeder club, then their fans will have to get used to it.

I think it might be the case that someone at the club other than Sven deals with contracts and fees, etc. after Sven has decided which players to target. I doubt our owners could be as clueless about football as Abramovich at Chelski. In fact, I doubt anyone in football could be as clueless about football as Abramovich.
