I am Rod Hull Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Being as we play Reading next week, it just wont happen yet...
One Arm Babba Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Being as we play Reading next week, it just wont happen yet... It would be very interesting to see if he plays or not. Would be a very big conflict of interest if we are still awaiting the bid to be accepted/rejected. I'd be surprised to see him included TBH.
kingfox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Sky Sports and Brian McDermott are sounding like this week will be Shane Long's final game as a Reading player. Might of been put before but cba to look back on pages. So seems like a three way battle with us, West Ham and Southampton possibly.

Mickey O'Neil Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 So Carew had a medical today and WH might still go for Long?
Guest Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Very different players. Maybe West Ham see them as a classic big man/small man strike partnership? What will become of Carlton Cole?

Can see S'ton being more interested in Maynard tbh, but you never know. Brighton shows we can't take anything for granted 9even if we weren't 100% interested)
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 looks like there is a Long way to go yet with this saga
heatherfox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 I've just come back from sunny skegg - is there any grain of truth to this or is it just 60 odd pages of B.S.

heatherfox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 59 pages of B.S. and 1 page of pure speculation just the usual then
Onions Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 If we sign him there will be a clause like when Fryatt went to Hull. Wouldn't be able to play till after next week, but either way I doubt he will play next week no matter who he plays for
Callabinho Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 I don't think we will get Long, Speaking to a Reading fan he claims that they are using our offer to lure premier league clubs to make a bid, They will accept lets say a £4mill bid from Bolton because McDermott wants him to play premier league football. Its going to be Maynard if anybody...
The Doctor Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 If we sign him there will be a clause like when Fryatt went to Hull. Wouldn't be able to play till after next week, but either way I doubt he will play next week no matter who he plays for say wha? Fryatt didn't play for hull v us in January because he didn't sign in time, they need to have signed by a certain time (I'm fairly sure it's 5:30PM) on the day before. As we played hull on the 1st day of the window he couldn't have signed in time unless we agreed to an emergency loan so he could play on the 1st day, then making that loan permanent. Obviously we were never going to agree to loan out a player to play against us so he couldn't play. With Long, if it goes through before Friday afternoon then he can play, so I'd imagine reading will delay as long as possible so that if a prem offer comes in, they can sell him there instead (assuming they decide to sell) & so that the move doesn't go through in time for him to play next Saturday.

Happy Fox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Bolton are also keen on Shane Long and could make a move for the striker next week #BWFC #RFC 33 minutes ago Fourth_Official Fourth Official Brian McDermott say's he doesn't want to sell Long to a rival, but his board might have other idea's, still no answer to #LCFC's bid
dannythefox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 fook Maynard this is the kid we need Maynard wont score 20 goals for us. Long all day long for me!

Its going to be Maynard if anybody... If a Premier League club comes in his head will be turned and he'll want to go. If we bid high then it might put many Premier League clubs off and most of the likely suitors have already signed strikers. I don't think he's ready for the big boys. I cannot understand this implication coming from fans of Bristol City and Reading that they'll accept smaller bids from PL teams and it's a complete nonsense financially.

It is nonsense however McDermott and Mejewski think the world of Long, they may if the books allow them accept a smaller bid for him so he can fulfill his dream of playing in the premier league. However I agree with you, a move now to the prem would ruin him.
Happy Fox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 If we get the Jong and another striker like Miller we will be fine upfront, splash the cash on a striker when we are in the prem

levein Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Just had an interesting conversation with Matt mills in town, said Long is interested in a move to Leicester and he is trying to persuade him join us.
