Shane Long

  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

I'm not sure whether anybody has posted this, but here goes:

Not sure any Premier League side would want to risk splashing £7 million on a player with one prolific Championship season under their belts. Everton literally have no money so unless they sell somebody they won't be making an offer like that, and Newcastle seem to be keeping their finances reasonably tight these days.

Unless West Ham arrive late on it wouldn't surprise me to see us with the only reasonable bid in the mix.

Bolton have two strikers who broke legs in training this week- they could be on the prowl - but they lack quids too

Mears is a defender & Chung Yong is a midfeilder i think.

Wouldnt be shocked to see them go for Maynard for less money tbh.

i believe Long is the difference between automatic promotion and Play offs, he needs to be signed. Better than Maynard in my opinion.

Nothing new or anything but interesting developments West Ham wise in relation to both Long and Maynard

http://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=131371&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=14800

A little more 'information' from my contact, who reckons he's ITK.

- We're at the advanced stage of talks with JC. Wages are the only stumbling block, but we're offering a low-ish basic wage with high bonuses for games played, goals scored etc. (A bit like Allardyce's bonus if we get promoted!)

- Forsell is still training with the squad. From what I've heard he's been offered a contract which is on the table, but even yesterday we hadn't really been drawn into negotiations. It's almost like a take-it-or-leave-it. Ditto JLS. Both have been thoroughly checked out by the medical team as well as by Sam himself.

- Sam has released a list of players he is willing to loan, to League clubs, after lots of enquiries following the Spence deal. That's why Montano's off, Lee's in talks. Other players on the list include Moncur and Hall. Tombides was considered the most likely to break through this season until his diagnosis, and there are hopes that he could still play a part towards the end of the season. Of course, the club are concerned first and foremost with his health.

- Sunderland have been sounded out re: Anton. We are asking for them to pay 50% of his wages. Talk are ongoing, he's willing to come here.

- Long deal going cold. The longer we leave it, the less likely it is to happen. We've made our opening bid for Maynard, but there is also another striker who we have made enquiries over as our first back-up option to Long. It's not Carew or Forsell, but a Championship striker.

Take it or leave it!

Alright?

First post on here so go easy (yeah, right...) but as someone who spends their working life as a journo / editor spending most of my day sifting through press releases (read: 'smelling bullsh*t) I thought McDermott's statement today was pretty interesting - not in terms of what he said, but what he didn't say - allow me to translate:

"I said in the week on the radio that we had had no interest from the Premier League, but that is not strictly the case," - means: "Interest from PL clubs yes, offers no"

"What I expect, which generally happens, is that someone will make an offer and then you will get five or six Premier League clubs making bids. Hopefully they won't leave it too late if they want to do that." means: non-prem clubs (Us & West Ham) have made offers, one of which we have turned down (West Ham, valuation not met) the other we haven't yet - i.e. 'we are hoping to **** a prem club offers more before LCFC's offer expires...'

"I've said we won't replace Shane Long. But that doesn't mean we won't bring anyone in" means: 'we can't afford to buy a striker of his quality, even if we do get 7.5m for him, because we still haven't replaced Mills and the money from his sale is still balancing the books'

In short, if no PL clubs bid for him, I reckon we're in with a damn good shout (if, that is, he wants to come here. And who wouldn't, we're MASSIVE aren't we??)

Now I could be wrong about all of the above, but hey, I've been reading this forum for a while now and I'm guessing facts or accuracy are not neccessary. Just an opnion / hope....

And I live in Brighton these days so don't get to as many games as I would like these days, but before anyone calls me a plastic / new boy or any of that nonsense let me say one thing: If you're not old enough to remember shouting 'Rooster' at Kevin Russell, you can **** off.

cheers

You make some valid points and I think you have it spot on, EVERY player has a price and if we meet it (which we have) then we have the upper hand over reading but not necessarily over Long! It's the waiting game I'm afraid I'd suspect an developments before Reading though.
