cc_star Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Can people please shut up about Nicky fucking Maynard. He's decent but he's not that good, I couldn't give a flying fuck he's going to Southampton. He'll bag there, no doubt, but he's not worth the amount Bristol were asking. Neither was Long. They're both targets we've missed out on but our bank balance is alot healthier for having done so. what good is money in the bank, if it would have aided us to promotion schlupp is promising but aside from that the trio of Nugent, Gally & Vassell doesn't really have top 2 stamped all over it
foxes2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 nugent cant do it all on his own we need a ST, hope we get one but if not hopes are big for schluup, (or however you spell it)

Finances are for those high up to worry about. Fans want players.
Happy Fox Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 We will pick up a loan from the prem once the 25 man squads are finalized
1994fox Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 MLS's summer transfer window closes Sunday at 8:59 p.m. PT (5am Monday UK time, I think) So even though the papers are supposed to be filed tonight, if not I'm sure they'll wrap it up by the actual deadline, not just a admin deadline Source: http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/soccer/post/_/id/10301/galaxy-reports-say-robbie-keane-close-to-deal "MLS's summer transfer window closes Sunday at 8:59 p.m. PT, but the league has informed clubs they need to submit paperwork by the end of business Friday to ensure players are approved before the deadline. " Intresting
MikeyT Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 He is an agent though so you would presume he would know these things Yes you would presume so, but then your post with the dates on suggests otherwise.
1994fox Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Yes you would presume so, but then your post with the dates on suggests otherwise. Time diffrence maybe?
cc_star Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Pacific time is UK midnight time isn't it? Sunday 20:59 pacific time is 04:59 Monday morning here, there is the provision that to be registered in time, paperwork must be in by close of business Friday (about midnight yes), but I'm sure if the actual deadline is Sunday night (monday morning here) they'll be able to push it through, especially with 'arry involved, you know what he's like on transfer deadlines
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 what good is money in the bank, if it would have aided us to promotion schlupp is promising but aside from that the trio of Nugent, Gally & Vassell doesn't really have top 2 stamped all over it I'm always sceptical about big money signings, though. I'll not be sure whether Mills was worth all that moolah until the season's done. No guarantee that either Long or Maynard would've indeed 'aided us to promotion.' I just can't understand why people are continually moaning about missing out on players that zero interest in coming here, and were commanding obscene amounts from their clubs. A striker who only played about a dozen games last season due to serious injury, with a year left on his contract, and no top flight experience, cannot command the type of fee Brizzle were asking for. I've said it before and I'll repeat myself, you'll get so much more bang for your buck abroad, and it's hardly as if Sven doesn't have the contacts. Maynard and Long are good players, yes - but I'm not going to weep into my Special K every morning when I discover that we haven't spaffed away ridiculous amounts on them. People always moan about 'passion' and all that garbage - NEITHER OF THEM WANTED TO BE HERE.

They'll command whatever fee the selling the clubs want to sell them for, they're their player & under contract. Southampton aren't paying that much more for Maynard then we were going to if Long (£7m) and then Keane (£3m or £6m depending on source) hadn't grabbed our interest and now we've missed out on all 3 How do you know neither of them wanted t obe here, we haven't even had a bid accepted by either of the clubs to have even thought about contacting the player People pointing to the Prem loan market... really.... good players are going to be let go, I don't think so, the only players leaving will be u-20's and has-beens
Joe. Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Balls. Marcotti Gabriele Marcotti Robbie Keane to LA Galaxy done... provided Juan Pablo Angel leaves (designated player spot) according to @adamserrano
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 They'll command whatever fee the selling the clubs want to sell them for So you don't think that Long at £7million was absurd? Do me a favour.
cc_star Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 So you don't think that Long at £7million was absurd? Do me a favour. Sorry, didn't realise you were paying
Petchy Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 If you thought the fees demanded by Bristol and Reading were justified for Long and Maynard, then you're deluded. You really are. The owners aren't going to be held to ransom just because it's public knowledge that they're fairly wealthy!
wellsy Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Apparently RK is watching from the stands tomorrow, my mates dad works in the players kitchen and told me. Don't shoot the messenger it might be shit but he's quite reliable.
Joe. Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Sorry, didn't realise you were paying Not really the point though, is it? Nobody likes seeing your team pay over the odds for players, especially ones coming from this level with one good season under their belts. Personally the money doesn't bother me too much in most circumstances, but when you see Championship players leaving for £7 million something doesn't quite add up.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Ah right, the money isn't coming out of my back pocket. Fuck it then. £10million for Shola Ameobi - I wouldn't mind, I'm not the one stumping up the cash. What a weapon. Night babs xx

Callabinho Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 He was supposed to be at the game tomorrow however it may not be the case anymore. But you never know.....
