Len Finsbury Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I'm trying to understand why a player of 31 years old would want to join the Galaxy: It can't be the weather, not like LA is known for its sunshine. Or that the money earned in one year would be the equivalent of three over here with the endorsements that would be available Or officially being known as one of their star players (designated) Can't be the standard of living out there (it's like a third world country) Americans have no idea how to create atmosphere in a sports arena, have you seen how quiet their stadiums are? He'll probably end up living in the ghetto known as Beverley Hills Of course, there's the language barrier to consider also No..... I can't think of a single reason why he would want to go.
Callabinho Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Galaxy go for Keane Sky Sports sources understand LA Galaxy hope to complete the signing of Tottenham striker Robbie Keane. 0911am this morning - SSN Transfer Centre That was yesterday I think, the latest one is that La have declined to confirm they are in talks with him.
MGLCFC Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Looks like LA Galaxy are playing this right - not confirming or denying until something is definitely agreed or he goes elsewhere - I think this is where we shoot ourselves in the foot sometimes - things are leaked and we all get excited, yet we really don't know what is going on behind the scenes.

Well they call it soccer though
Mickey O'Neil Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I'm trying to understand why a player of 31 years old would want to join the Galaxy: ...some people on here think as soon as you are over 30 you are past it TBF, I actually thought Robbie Savage was gonna bugger off to Australia (??? can't remember which country it was now!) at the end of last season. I would have bet on it. And lost. I'm hopeful we can do something for Keane.
sphericalfox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 As much as I want this to happen, there's something that baffles me about some of the responses about him potentially going to LA Galaxy, who state that he must think his career is over and that'll be the reason he's heading over there. Now last time I checked, a first team pick for the Irish National team, a Premiership quality striker, might just perceive a drop to the CCC as an indication of his career ending. If we were not to be promoted then he'd be tied to a contract to play for us and his reputation diminish, and might feel he would go out career wise on a low. Going to LA there is no chance of relegation, whatever your view of their 'soccer' quality, yet get paid healthy with a Irish/American fanbase that would hugely increase the coffers for that club. I'm not going to say the nail is in the coffin of this one, and will be eagerly awaiting news of his attendance/absence at this afternoon's game. I can only cross my fingers and hope that Sven has spoken to him, and the invitation to view us will do the trick. A chant to Keano (should he be here) might help too!
Len Finsbury Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 ...some people on here think as soon as you are over 30 you are past it I can see why people may think that when talking about football careers. His equivalent age in normal employment would be mid fifties. After years of making it to the top, why wouldn't you want to spend your golden years taking it easy? This refers to any career/job.

If he were to move to us, he's still in all fairness going to be tarred with the 'diminishing career' brush by alot of people, though in L.A. he's going to be a big fish in a sort of small pond and pick up a hefty wedge. I was thinking the Irish-American fan base link too but I think that might hold more water if he was going to New York rather than L.A. I guess it depends whether he's moving for football or lifestyle, but theres arguments for both. Oh well.

Whilst the Irish/American connection truly is strong in New England (New York/Boston/etc), believe me when i say there's enough on the West coast of the states to easily fill their stadium twice over. These are 2nd and 3rd generation Irish/Americans primarily, but surprisingly though Man Utd has a plastic fanbase (ie anywhere but Manchester), 'sports borders' in the States are more commonly blurred. It wouldn't surprise me to see a contingent of Irish New Englanders follow LA Galaxy as he might join them.
Callabinho Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Quiet The likes of Blackburn and Bolton along with Leicesterare all said to be interested, although Galaxy were believed to be leading the chase after opening talks, but the club are keeping their cards close to their chest. "We are always looking to improve our squad and have contacted or been contacted by a host of players during the current transfer window," said a club spokesman when questioned on the Keane link. "As soon as we have something confirmed in regards to any potential player acquisitions we will be sure to alert everyone."

Happy Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 @Agent_ITK Agent_ITK Keane wants to stay in the UK, but family are looking for a move to LA. #lcfc #thfc #QPR #lagalaxy
Happy Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 grahamruthven Graham Ruthven LA Galaxy have spoken to Nicolas Anelka over the possibility of the Frenchman moving to the MLS.
Kingleicester Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Even if keane wants to stay in this country, surely Bolton or Blackburn would be a prefered choice

Yeah good point actually, I seem to remember they turned out in their droves to watch the Republic during World Cup '94, so from the Galaxy's point of view, they could absolutely kill it marketing wise. I'm a bit surprised Trezeguet hasn't been snapped up by an MLS team yet, an Henry/Trezeguet reunion would have been good.

Callabinho Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Keane SHOULD be at the LCFC game today! Time for us and Sven to impress!
ronnup Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Keane SHOULD be at the LCFC game today! Time for us and Sven to impress! If he is there them surely that's a pretty big indicater that he'll come. Not got any other reason to be here has he?
Happy Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 It seems that it is wife that wants him to go to LA, Keane resist the wife's demands and sign for Leicester , and p.s put 5-0 goal performance to convince him
sphericalfox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 A picture of the wife: I think kind words, that are mature, respectful and flattering should be in order (not Gallyesque, we do want him to come here)
rico Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Even if keane wants to stay in this country, surely Bolton or Blackburn would be a prefered choice If hes looking not to have to move all his family up north then we are in a better location ,being only just over an hour from London
cc_star Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 What's happened with the league paperwork deadline of Friday night? (even though actual deadline is Sunday night, Monday morning our time) Surely we should know if LA Galaxy managed to move on one of their designated players to make room for him, because if they couldn't get the player out, it's a non-starter as they're only allowed 3 players in their squad to not count to the wage cap
rico Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 A picture of the wife: I think kind words, that are mature, respectful and flattering should be in order (not Gallyesque, we do want him to come here) Very nice
MGLCFC Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 So does it all come down to who wears the trousers then?
cc_star Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 If hes looking not to have to move all his family up north then we are in a better location ,being only just over an hour from London QPR are supposedly sniffing now, so she'll get to stay in London
