Real Madrid Post-Match thread

Very pleased with our defence today but like many have said, our striker situation really needs addressing. Dyers goal was very impressive as well....

Dont know how people say Mills' distribution was poor, he played a pass from the first third of our pitch to the edge of their box right to Gallys feet.

If anyone is interested here is a very short vid i took my phone of the Real Madrid coach arriving. Leicester fans have some nerve :P

It was an excellent pass. But the rest of the time he looked absolutely petrified to have the ball at his feet.

I thought Nugent did an admirable job given how isolated he was for the majority of the game.

Highlight of the day was Ruth Lorenzo unnecessarily (although appreciated) grinding the microphone stand during Highway to Hell.

Hubba hubba.

My god we need to work on set plays, fookin gash today.

It didn't exactly help that a good 2 or 3 of them we just passed it to one of there players whilst we stood around looking like we didn't have a clue

I'm sorry, but wtf are the Leeds fans going on about?

Kasper does look pretty chubby doesn't he? don't know where the hell he was for the 1st and 2nd goal.. He lost it for them

Ha ha ha Kasper has gone from the goalkeeper with the greatest potential in the history of the universe brilliantly brought in by the genii at Leeds for nothing after being named player of the season at his previous club (a bit like Lonergan actually) to a fat piece of crap in the few seconds it takes to sign a new contract.

No wonder he didn't feel like hanging about!

Kasper was chuffing quality and only a deluded berk would say otherwise after today's performance. Two blinding stops off the top of my head, great distribution and he seems to have a bit of fight about him. Running 30 yards telling players he's known for only a few weeks to stop pissing around on corners was nice to see. Takes no shit, I like it.

Got to ask why that's funny, I'd much rather an away day like Lincoln than a game against over-rated show-ponies like we had.

THankfully you will have had your fill of that sort of football in league one .... Personally I'm delighted we are playing proper football against great teams .... but maybe that's because i go to watch the football not bounce around with a belly full of lager watching hoofball in the lower leagues.

My thoughts on the day ....

Ruth Lorenzo's got plenty of ass to grab.

The ground make-over looks quality.

New kit's great, as is the megastore.

Onto the game .... Abe looked great first half then faded... Bamba looked accomplished!! Steve Howard is still the worst player I've ever seen (lazy, doesn't leave the ground when jumping, bottles 50/50s, poor touch, slow, poor movement, missed a free header from 6 yards) .... presumably he appeals if you prefer to bounce away at Lincoln.

In the end we did vs real Madrid one of the most iconic and best football teams around and we only lost by one goal in my opinion that's an accomplishment if we Play like we did today against a championship team I think well do pretty well.

All I gotta say is loved the game, loved the squad, loved the new stadium look, loved the new kit and loved the new megastore.

Always great to see the great players in real life, I was particularly impressed by Xabi Alonso. Always admired him at Liverpool but he can't half pass, don't think he gave the ball away once and goes about his business so well.

On to Leicester, was very impressed by all the new signings on show with the possible exception of St Ledger who looked very shakey but I think most Championship defenders would against Benzema. Very promising signs for the forthcoming season just need the final piece of the jigsaw.

It was his quality pass that made their counter attack for the 2nd goal, wonderful pass across the field.

Would love a player even half as good as him at Leicester, never gives the ball away and more than capable of finding that killer pass like the one you mentioned for the second goal.

Definitely feels like the bar has been raised with this summers signings. Players who were seen as strong last season now looking a little average in comparison. The standard's been set, and I think some people might have to fight quite hard for their places. The exception to this today was Bamba who did the business.

Thought he changed the game much more than Ronaldo totally ran the midfield sheer quality

Having read through all the posts on this thread to date, I do wonder if some of the other 32187 crowd were watching the same game as me.

This was Real Madrid we were playing! It was Real for real, a fixture that I never thought I would see in my lifetime.

And Leicester were magnificent! Yes, Real we readily accept are in essence, in a different class but what we lacked in speed and movement off the ball, we made up for in tenacity and a terrier-like approach, constantlysnapping at their heels, coupled with some brilliant fearless legal tackling, even in the 'area' at the same time, producing a high standard of good football ourselves.

As for comments re some of the individuals, to my mind, Neil Danns was a revelation. He wasn't just 'decent' or 'alright' or 'fair', he was outstanding and produced today one of the most determined and exciting midfield displays that took me back to the days of Frank McLintock / Bobby Roberts /Matt Elliott etc,

Similarly, Matt Mills is, I reckon, a reincarnation of SteveWalsh who also wore the No 5 shirt and he will become a future City legend. To my mind, he is a strong candidate for the captain's armband. His two head injuries were sustained through firstly a fearless flying header not much above knee height in repulsing a Real attackand secondly, another flying header in traditional centre-forward style, colliding with Real's goalie which laid them both out for the count. Most other players would have gone off but not Matt Mills, until he felt partly guilty in conceding Real's first goal.

Sol Bamba played as if his life depended on it. Why did wehave to wait until the 2nd half before we heard 'his' song?

Was it Kasper or his dad, Peter that was in goal? I doubt his dad would have bettered that display, Paul Konchesky was Paul Konchesky – thoroughly professional , always giving 100%.

And David Nugent showed his class even though he has only just resumed full training as I understand it. He looked totally shattered whenhe came off.

Yuki Abe made one mistake but more than made up for it witha cracking display overall.

Yes, we probably do want an established prolific goalscorerbut until Sven locates an 'established-prolific-goalscorer' bush because they don't grow on trees, then he should start with both Lloyd 'on-fire-Dyer andVassell, the latter can move with the speed of a hare, the former can move atthe speed of light.

The really good news is that we won't play Real Madrid again, or any other team of that quality, at least not for another two seasons until we meet them in the Champions League.

I don't know what other Championship teams think of the setup at Leicester but if I wasn't a City fan, it would frighten the hell outof me.

Xabi Alonso is criminally underrated. Not too far behind Xavi and still one of my favourite players to watch.
