Fookin hope so.... It was embarrassing

**** sake its a bit of fun. I dont know if you were there yesterday but at times it was deadly silent. The mexican wave seemed to lift the atmosphere, gave people a laugh and the crowd were noiser after it. Oh yeah and then we scored. Its a bit of harmless fun, as is the poznan. Dont like it, dont join in.

Enjoying the school holidays are we?

The schoolkids and day trippers who started that made me squirm. I trust the proper fans will reclaim the ground for the Reading game.

So you'd prefer our average attendance of 24,000 turned up and no one else, so Real could see the empty seats?

The idea of putting on events like this is to encourage people to come to more matches

I know it's better for the club to have more people attending for more revenue. But from a fans point of view, I'd rather 24,000 die hards, rather than a full stadium of lifeless happy clappers.

Impressed with our first back 5

SSL, Ball and Wellens were poor

Abe and Nugent were invisible

Danns, King, Gally and Vassell were all decent too oh so was Johnson

I wanted to see Pantsil, Moussa and Schlupp too but never mind

My MOTM - Sol Bamba

Yes was there yesterday and have made the point earlier in this thread if you care to read that there were long periods of silence... What I would have liked is the bulk of the crowd singing away and raising the roof. Herein lies the problem of the 'family atmosphere' at football matches... There were probably what, 20 odd thousand fair weather fans there yesterday that didn't know the players, the songs or anything much about football... The only plus point to this is an increased revenue for the club..

I would have liked atmosphere... The mexican wave is paying lip service to this and is done at a time when the bulk of the crowd are frankly bored because they don't really know what's going on... I like the king power stadium for what it is.., but having been brought up at filbert street the noise and the passion is but a distant memory...

And no I didn't join in

Anyway, away games are coming up, I'm off to Cov and will be singing mi heart out as usual

I said the replay of the goal. lol

I know it shoes the goal, but not the replay of it, unlike their goals that it shows a few times. :P

Surprising considering we scored the best goal

Oh fuck off will you, you sanctimonious twat.

If, out of the 'extra' 8000 that attended, a 1000 of them decide to turn up week in, week out then that can only be a good thing for the club. Just because they might enjoy the experience differently to you does not make them 'lifeless happy clappers', they pay their money and have a right to enjoy it however they want.

Most will probably not return until the next 'glamour tie', but hopefully a percentage of them have caught the bug and will decide to come back for the Reading match and beyond.

Got to say the performance I was very pleased with was Peltier. The lad was making a big step up from League 1 to playing Real Madrid and at no time did he look out of place. I think people who classed his performance as average are being very harsh. Promising signing for not a lot of money.

Xabi Alonso is criminally underrated. Not too far behind Xavi and still one of my favourite players to watch.

got your head screwed on. phenomenal footballer, have always rated him as one of the best.

Gotta be happy with 2-1.

Didn't see the game but it looks like we'll have something to cheer about this season. Heard Kasper had a good game though!

Can't wait for Saturday now.

I'm usually abroad for the start of the seaon so this'll be the first match of the season I've attended in yonks although 11 points out of 40 in the last 10 years suggests we may struggle

Booked a hotel in Coventry so better dig out that long sleeved shirt for the pub crawl in the evening.

Last time I went on the piss in Cov it was to The Eclipse.........................that place and The Specials being the only decent thing to come out of that shithole.

So any tips on decent pubs would be appreciated.

i hear the hotel bar is the place to be lol

Few things from yesterday:

I thought we played pretty well. Stand-out players were clearly Schmeichel and Bamba. Don't see all of the love for Danns - I thought he did fine, but no more. Same goes for Mills, who whilst undoubtedly brave looked (as I've said elsewhere) terrified whenever he got the ball at his feet. One lovely pass to Gallagher though.

I thought Nugent ran the channels well and did as well as could possibly be expected against defenders of that quality. I can see him bagging at least 15 goals this season if he stays fit.

Andy King once again did very little that was obviously tangible once he came on, but when he was off the pitch it was clear how much we missed him. He provides the crucial link between midfield and attack, and Nugent seemed far less isolated when King came on.

The two Michaels - Ball and Johnson - looked hopelessly off the pace but I guess that is to be expected.

Overall things look positive though. Sven's got a hell of a selection headache for next weekend.

I thought Ramos was outstanding for Madrid and was easily their best performer. Anyone else thought Kaka looked poor?

I agree, Ramos was a brick wall, he outmuscled Gallagher into submission by half time, and Kaka looks like he's in decline, but then if you saw his missus you could probably understand where he puts most of his efforts towards these days.

was going to start a new topic for this, but would probably be unnecessary. Stringer and Alan Young made a big deal about Richie "holding on" to the captains armband for the beginning of the game. Obviously RW and captain for the second half King didn't produce the most explosive performances of the game, I wondered what people at the match thought on the matter. When asked about it post match Sven replied something along the lines of "we need to have a talk about it" and he seemed quite unsure. KS also impressed a lot with his level of passion and "communication".

I feel like a lot of people were really hoping that Wellens would get the captaincy, what do you think now?

(I'm just curious by the way. i haven't made a decision one way or the other. I also should make the point that i'm aware that this is only one game and quite an unusual one at that.)

wasnt going to go originally but won some tickets, great day out, thought bamba may be one of the defenders that may struggle for his place this season but he seems to have stepped up and fought for his place already,. like the look of danns also.

lol anyone see the little kid in the west stand get ronaldos autograph..

turned around and done a little get in there celebration..

Felt quite sorry for Nugent really. Madrid had so much possession we were playing like a 4-5-1 and he never had much support. Thought he did extremely well considering he was just back from injury and against 4 Real Madrid defenders.

Gallagher was never ever getting past Ramos

Wellens was just awful

Kasper, Bamba, Peltier, Abe, Konchesky and Danns impressed me the most.

Mills is bloody crazy. I like it.

Also Xabi Alonso and Ramos are incredible. Alonso just tore us a new one in midfield without even trying and I don't think anyone made Ramos break a sweat yesterday he's so good.

and the lad that ran on the pitch BEFORE the game to get an autograph.. wtf.. at least do it after you have watched the game..

Walking back down Burnmoor street yesterday, over heard three lads talking. One lad goes too his two mates "Remember playing Barcelona when we got promotion to the premier league?" Other lad out the two replies "oh yeah, we drew 3-3 didn't we?" Both lads reply "yeah".

lol

THankfully you will have had your fill of that sort of football in league one .... Personally I'm delighted we are playing proper football against great teams .... but maybe that's because i go to watch the football not bounce around with a belly full of lager watching hoofball in the lower leagues.

Onto the game .... Abe looked great first half then faded... Bamba looked accomplished!! Steve Howard is still the worst player I've ever seen (lazy, doesn't leave the ground when jumping, bottles 50/50s, poor touch, slow, poor movement, missed a free header from 6 yards) .... presumably he appeals if you prefer to bounce away at Lincoln.

That sort of football?

I did enjoy league 1, always great to be treated like a person rather than sub-human scum or a wallet to be milked. And I do go to watch the football, I just enjoy being able to have fun doing rather than being sat down and clapping on occasion.

As for Howard, he would have been a good choice to start yesterday, as would waghorn. The Madrid defence would be used to skill & pace having faced messi 7 times last season, they would not have been used to the sheer physical presence of Howard & Waghorn & the way waggy buzzes around like a blue-arsed fly.

Finally, that the Madrid side got a better reception than Leicester coming out for the second half was incredibly disappointing.

There was one moment in the first half when Gallagher got back and absolutely mugged Kaka which made me smile.
