AoWW Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 'kin'hell - have been down in London all day today on a coach tour ( my Mum's idea!) of the Olympic venues/sites and the surrounding areas. Spend the day driving around Hackney, Bethnal Green, Mile End, Stratford, West Ham, Canning, Woolwich, Charlton, Blackheath, Lewisham, Greenwich, Poplar and Bow! Maybe not the best day for it! Had no idea until I got home this evening just how bad it was down there! Didn't see anything particularly of the riots but there was quite a lot of activity with the emergency services and more sirens than you'd normally expect - also saw a couple of helicopters hovering over the Hackney area as we left the city at 5pm-ish but still didn't think that much of it. Seems now, though, that we must have narrowly skirted trouble through much of the day. Returned home to a few worried messages from friends who had seen the news and who knew I was down there today and got worried when I was later home than expected.
