wurmer Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 It's a bit different being in the ground to listening on the radio. When you're in the ground you can blame yourself if you believe something has happened and it hasn't. On the radio you are relying on the commentator Go to the games then...
Guest shearfox Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I like the commentary but yep he had me bouncing all over the room acting like an idiot only to tell me it actually wasn't a goal.
Saxondale Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Did anybody else notice that Youngy was constantly referring to Neil Danns as 'Lee Danns'? Everybody Danns now!
isaidno Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I totally agree with this, but as you said Stringer is a fan of the club and he adds some fun and excitment to it, and some comedy with his phrases. But Young is just appaling, would prefer someone else to him. Like Matt Piper
Guest shearfox Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Like Matt Piper His intellect puts Einstein to shame.
fox in the sox Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Go to the games then... i've been to every home game for the last 35 years so I don't think I can be accused of not going to games.
haraven Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Not a great fan of Young but I like Stringer - simply because he is so passionate about the club. Makes me laugh when we get his match day fashion report about some players hair doe...
benmeysner Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 only stringer can come out with such quotes as 'paul gallaghers foot is like a hammer today you can peel carrots with it'
foxfan13 Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Whilst i like Stringers passion for the club i don't like the fact that he spends half the game talking about rubbish and missing things in the game rather than giving us a picture of what is actually happening..
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Don't like Stringer much, but saying "It's in; no it isn't" surely just adds to the excitement of the commentry and reflects what many people who were there thought and what YOU might have thought had you been there. So I have no problem with this at all. It's when he starts talking about himself does my head in. Stringer... WE DON'T CARE! More about what's happening on the pitch please.
DB11 Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I absolutely hate listening to Alan Young. He's the most deluded, out of date commentator and it's horrible listening to his drivel!
Zingari Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 On the commentary today Ian Stringer said it was a goal then said it wasn't over the line. Why can't he wait and be definite before saying this? Stringer and Nev have been my 2 favourites over the years but I wish Stringer would cut this out. Yes i agree , it was almost as bad as when Orson Welles announced on the radio that the Martians had landed and caused everyone to rush out into the street screaming I had ran into the garden cheering and dancing when the missus called me back in with the bad news I felt a proper charlie
liamsm Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I can't stand Young's punditry so will only listen to RL as the last resort, thankfully we were on 5Live today so I was spared Youngy's inept insights and general negativity I quite Stringer's commentary, makes a change to have a fan rather than a career broadcaster, however being excited in the moment he doesn't always convey clearly what's going on... and he keeps saying "on radio leicester 104.9fm" every 4.2 seconds, I wish he'd cut that out it's so fecking annoying... WE KNOW!!! WE'RE ALREADY LISTENING TO 104.9FM ELSE WE WOULD HEAR YOU KEEP PUSHING IT I'm with you, Young is so crap
Vlad The Impaler Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 This time last year the majority of users on here were knocking one out over Young's commentary, what's with the hate all of a sudden? I've personally never liked the bloke, he's got to realise that football is now a totally different sport to of which it was when he was playing. I appreciate his honesty but to be quite frank he's terrible. Oh, and I like Stringer, best commentator we've had in years.
Salieri Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Stringer does seem to call a 'goal' when it's not with alarming regularity which is incredibly frustrating. That aside, I quite enjoy his (sometimes bizarre) commentaries.

woznotwos Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Last year, everyone was bumming Young Say what ?? and all these years he was telling me i was his special friend!!!
thybluefox Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I'm 100% certain that if Stringer left, we'd all miss him. People jump on him for anything he says and tbh it's getting quite boring now.
acooling08 Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I don't understand how he thought it wasn't a goal! It was in the corner yes, but I was on the back row and saw it clear as day.
The Doctor Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 I don't understand how he thought it wasn't a goal! It was in the corner yes, but I was on the back row and saw it clear as day. perhaps because it wasn't a goal? - Nugents header hit the post and trickled along the line without crossing before the keeper picked it up.

Incorrect. We might strike it lucky and the BBC might hire someone competent and professional. Maybe he called it wrong on the day. It happens. It's all the other shite that we have to put up with outside of his terrible, terrible punditry.

Spiritwalker Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 To be fair, I was jumping up and down for about 5 seconds before I realised it hadn't gone in.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 7 August 2011 Posted 7 August 2011 Dont really understand why everyone doesnt seem to liek Alan Young any more after most people really enjoyed his commentary previously. Think he shows passion and says what he thinks. Far better than the likes of Matt Piper.

Think he shows passion and says what he thinks. Far better than the likes of Matt Piper. He comes across as xenophobic and is constantly behind the times. I also find myself disagreeing with most of what he says.
