Bristol chairman Colin Sexstone has revealed that City's fourth offer for 24-year-old Maynard was "far in excess" of the rumoured £6 million bid made earlier in the week. "They pushed very hard and did make a fourth offer earlier in the week that was far in excess of what had been offered before. "It was a lot of money, but the board was adamant that we wanted to keep Nicky." -- As said was told it was £8.5million.

Glad we got Beckford instead for a comparatively reasonable fee. Maynard isn't worth half that! Bristol City are mental to turn that sort of money down, especially seeing as they'll probably lose him for far less in January, or for bugger all next summer, and that they need to strengthen other areas of the team. Ludicrous!
