21st Century Fox Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 If anyone ever wonders if Karl is a character try and get hold of the recordings of the original XFM radio shows they did before the podcasts, he quite clearly isn't. He has grown to know what he says is funny now though which isn't quite as good as his older, raw, idiocy.
Raw Dykes Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Each to there own I think family guy is genius. Plus stewie is the best!!!! People like 'the royal family' (tv show), which I find baffling. This is Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth: This is Stewie: The Jimmy Corrigan comic dates back to 1993 or earlier - way before Family Guy was created. In 2003, when asked about the similarities, Seth MacFarlane said that he had never seen the comic strip before, described the similarities as "pretty shocking" and said that he could see how Chris Ware (the creator of Jimmy Corrigan) would reach that conclusion. I don't believe for a second that this is a coincidence. It's not just his appearance that bothers me - his character used to be a rip-off of The Brain (from Pinky and the Brain), but now they've just made him gay, instead. Inconsistent, unoriginal and completely non-funny. I'm going to stop talking about Family Guy now, cos I could go on forever, and it's very unproductive. You're right - each to their own.
purpleronnie Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Stewie is the best, I used to watch the simpsons but family guy shits all over it. I like American dad too but not as much as FG, rogers ace though!!!
Rincewind Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 If he never saw the other before then I find it strange no one else on the writers or production team or any viewer in the first few series pointed out the simualarities.
Raw Dykes Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Haha, Family Guy is bollocks. Anyone could write it: "This is worse than the time when *Insert something stupid that has no relation to the plot*" Hate it. On topic: I like An Idiot Abroad. Even if it is put on, it's still pretty funny. Yes! Someone else who agrees! I think Matt Stone and Trey Parker summed up just how bad the writing is on Family Guy in the two "Cartoon Wars" episodes in South Park series 10. I recommend watching them if you haven't seen it already.
Raw Dykes Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 South park is wank. I'm a huge fan, myself. I find it amazing that anyone could prefer Family Guy to South Park, or prefer Family Guy to even a root canal, but there really is no accounting for taste, I suppose.
VinceNoir Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Yes! Someone else who agrees! I think Matt Stone and Trey Parker summed up just how bad the writing is on Family Guy in the two "Cartoon Wars" episodes in South Park series 10. I recommend watching them if you haven't seen it already. Yeah i've seen it They're spot on in that episode. I love South Park, but season 14 and the first half of season 15 haven't been great imo. If you want a fookin amazing show, check out 'It's always sunny in philadelphia'. I rave about it on every messageboard I use, but believe me, once you see it you will be thanking me

21st Century Fox Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Yeah i've seen it They're spot on in that episode. I love South Park, but season 14 and the first half of season 15 haven't been great imo. If you want a fookin amazing show, check out 'It's always sunny in philadelphia'. I rave about it on every messageboard I use, but believe me, once you see it you will be thanking me Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia is brilliant, the one where they turn the bar into a gay bar is my favourite.
Head Honcho Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Definitely in my top 3 worst shows of all time.

I'll look out for that show. You may or may not have seen "15 Storeys High" - a brilliant sitcom by and starring Sean Lock. Not many people know about it, but it's one of the best comedies I've ever seen. Back to south Park; I think I can see why people wouldn't like it - there is a lot of toilet humour, and it can be completely tasteless, but it is very clever. It comments on current affairs and popular culture in an informed and very concise way, and it's also amazingly topical for an animated show. There's always a storyline, which is usually very well put together, as opposed to Family Guy, which I don't think ever has anything even approaching a storyline. Family Guy consists almost entirely of filler - non-jokes that are so drawn-out and overlong I suspect they're just trying to fill half an hour without having to actually write any material. I haven't even seen a lot of episodes, but I've seen that bit where someone falls over and clutches their knee for about 5 minutes a few times. It wasn't funny in the first place, so don't keep using it, ffs. The other supposed jokes are often just a reference to pop culture from the 80s, with nothing funny about them. People see ALF/Ghostbusters/Marty McFly, and think, "Yeah! I remember that!" and that's enough for them, but this is not comedy. You might as well watch "I Love the 1980s". I really do wonder when watching anything by Seth MacFarlane whether the writers have forgotten that they're supposed to be trying to make people laugh. Seth MacFarlane must have gone to the Hale & Pace school of comedy - "If a joke at first does not succeed, try, try and try again."

I agree with this; Rather strange though seeing as American Dad tends to be quite funny and the jokes do have a close link with the plot. Much like the Simpsons, FG is more popular than it's sister show despite being much less funny.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 September 2011 Posted 4 September 2011 Family Guy was a lot better in the first three seasons (before it was strangely canned) and the random bits were actually a lot more related to the plot rather than what they are now. As for an Idiot Abroad, it's alright. Nothing special but I can happily watch it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Yes, just turn it off, like I do. You don't have to watch trash.
Mack Posted 5 September 2011 Author Posted 5 September 2011 Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Now we are talking! My favourite movie ever...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Trailer Park boys is quality Also even if Karl is acting how is that any different to any other comedy.....is that not the same premise that formed Mockumentarys?
Rincewind Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 never seen Idiots abroad so cant comment. I dont mind family guy. Some well hidden mick taking. Soth Park can go OTT sometimes. My elder brother who is pretty broadminded mentioned one episode which featured a paediphile teacher and he thought it had gone too far and no need to make fun of the subject. He is an ex-teacher but I saw his point with that one. Watched the above clip. Quite funny but would need to see more to judge properly. Why were the onlookers all throwing up?
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 OK, so Sky allowed Gervais to make an unfunny elongated practical joke on a bloke who pretended to be a miserable git. It was about as funny as having your scrotum cheese grated by David Mellor. But now Idiot Abroad 2 has been made. Why? And can I have the share of my subscription fee back that making this cack cost please. You obviously haven't listened to all the original podcasts and audiobooks. It's no act.
Raw Dykes Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Now we are talking! My favourite movie ever... One of my favourite comedy films ever is also by Matt Stone and Trey Parker:
hairy Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 When does this start? Or has it already started?
