Ambitious Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 As you are all aware, he is currently banned by UEFA from competing in the Group Stages of next years European Championships in Poland and Ukraine. I don't think he should go, we are not guaranteed to get past the group stages and it would be a waste of a pick, if we don't manage to finish 2nd or above.
The Doctor Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 lowers the available squad and will only be available for 1 game of the tournament, if that. Go for it.
Haydos Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Definitely. The last 2 or 3 players are going to be filled with mediocre players like Bobby Zamora, Phil Jagielka, Kyle Walker, etc who are nowhere near good enough to be in a side challenging past the group stage. He's our best player. We will have no chance of even coming close to competing if he doesn't play in the knock outs. This is without discussing the fact that a 3 match ban in international games is frankly ridiculous. Fair enough in a 40-50 game season but when we barely play 10 games a year? Do me a favour.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Yed he should though unlike many I don't think he's the be all and end all for us. If were going to do anything we shouldn't have to rely on one player. Hopefully we won't miss him. I'm very excited by the form of young and welbeck, so why worry about one player? We would need him though come the final rounds, just because he occupies defenders.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Look at it from another countries point of view. Would Portugal not take Ronaldo? Would Germany not take Ozil? We'll get through the group without Rooney and will need him to face the 'better' nations further on in the tournament.

StanSP Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Yes. And for the purposes of the poll, if I can vote on all the options, I will .
Tielemans63 Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Did my vote make it 50-50? Sweet! As for Roon Dog - head says yes, heart says feck off you moon-faced liability. (P.S Before anyone says, I have got that in the correct order!)
Jackirius Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 We have too, he is one of the most talented strikers in the world, and unfortunately hasn't performed in recent tournaments, but does have the capability to win a game for us. And he has pashuuuuuun
Izzet is God Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 I think it's always going to be six of one, half a dozen of the other, with this one. If we don't take him and get through the group stage but once again fail to make a final...the media and others will be shouting at why he wasn't taken. On the other hand...if we do take him and fail to get past the group stage, people will just moan seeing it as a waste of a spot, possibly saying it'd be much more productive taking the likes of Wellbeck/Sturridge. I'd take him...worth the risk in a 23 man squad if u ask me
DB11 Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 What's the point in a poll if you can vote for both options?
Tielemans63 Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Often teams go to a finals with 4 forwards and at least one of them will barely be used, if at all. In that sense you may as well take Rooney as your 'fourth' striker. If nothing else he should be fired up to want to prove his worth. Having said that, a fired up Rooney is usually unable to control himself.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 15 October 2011 Posted 15 October 2011 Yes and No, so it's still even. We should take him, but he's a pr*ck for what he did.
Jaspa Posted 15 October 2011 Posted 15 October 2011 Sven has spoken ! Take him. Punishing him for his attitude could take a huge chunk out of his game, thus making him a worse player. He ended with 'Take it or leave it' *All opinions shown by others are now void
THFC6061 Posted 15 October 2011 Posted 15 October 2011 Absolutely not. Rooney was totally useless for England during the last two World Cup Finals tournaments. If England do manage to progress out of the Group Stage in the 2012 Euro Finals, the strikers who were selected should be given the oppertunity to continue in the knock-out stages. Players like Darren Bent, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch all have far better strike-rates for England than Rooney has anyway.
Fox92 Posted 15 October 2011 Posted 15 October 2011 What the? You can vote for both 'yes' and 'no'. What is the point? I've just made is 18 - 18 votes, so then next person will make it 19 and then the next person 20 votes etc, so we will never know what people really feel! I think he should go anyway. He is one of the better players, I may not like him but still, and we cannot afford to leave our good players at home, especially if we get through (yeah, right!). I'd like to see the reaction if he was left out though. Sky Sports will probably be going on about it all day, just like they were when nobody knew how mnay games he will get banned for.
Corky Posted 15 October 2011 Posted 15 October 2011 He probably should. Though it's doubtful he'll play.

That stat makes a total mockery of the statement that "Rooney is one of the world's top strikers". Remember how appalling he was at the last World Cup, and how he conned Capello into thinking he was in a fit mental state to play last week. He doesn't want to wear the shirt, at least under this manager, so it's time to cut our losses and leave him at home. I'm sure Coleen and Kai would enjoy yet another long summer holiday somewhere exotic, with the chance of making more money from another lucrative photoshoot. No player is bigger than the team.
