Thoughts on Matt Mills red card?

Just seen a replay and think its a hard solid tackle in which he got the ball. How long before footballs a non contact sport?

Two.

Footed.

Tackle.

A split second later thats a broken leg.

I for one would want any player sent off for commiting that offence against us.

He has no excuse and cost us a point (possible).

Dont think we can blame Mills for losing us a point. If we had lost 2-1 then maybe but we barely even had a shot on goal and really didnt come close to getting a draw.

Is mills the only one left in the world not to know that two footed tackles = Red card ? stupid beyond belief , nearly as stupid as Sven making him captain . :dunno::angry::dunno::angry:

And if he went in one footed it still could have been a broken leg...

Dont see your point nor Kitchandros.

So basically people are saying if he gets that one footed its an excellent tackle but two footed hes a disgrace. I really dont get why it would make a difference? Hes gone in hard and hes won the ball. End of. What is happening to football? Next will be players getting sent off for touching another player.

Well the argument is that you are not in control of your body and also that the tackle carries more weight with 2 feet. You can also not really tackle 2 footed without your studs being up and Mills' tackle had both his toes pointing upwards, which could have possibly made contact with his shins (where leg snappage could occur).

It is common knowledge that 2 footed tackles are not allowed and that's what Mills did, so he can have no complaints.

The game is becomin a pussy sport wheres all the slide tackles and shoulder to shoulder barging... Tbh i think football gets worse and worse every year with another rule hear another rule there. Matt mills was a red card but those people who say 5 match ban, are complete foooking faggits... Grow a bollok ffs... 50% of challanges that recieve a card are because the player who was fouled was milking it... Anyways rant over

Now we all know that 2 footed tackles, with studs showing and you feet off the floor will result in a red card under todays rules, however, the birmingham player was know where near mills when he took the ball, certainly not a split second away as mentioned here and my biggest gripe is watch the the replay from the angle in which you can see the ref in the background, he takes an age to react and only does when the Brum players go up in arms.

I don't want to see players injured, however, sometimes the most innocent of challenges can result in broken ankles, ligament damage etc, do players then deserve a card for causing an injury??

I think the biggest problem with this card is, it has happened just as mills was starting to settle in lets hope SSL is ready to prove himself.

If you don't agree with Mills' red card, then ask yourself this question.

How would you have reacted if the tackle had been made by a Birmingham player on a City player?

I don't think the ref had much choice other than to send Mills off. He didn't intend to cause injury to the Brum player, but it was dangerous.

Even Sven agreed with the ref.

SSL should now get his chance to prove that he deserves a starting place in the team. He has been asking for his chance, well now he will most likely get it, so step up Sean.

He could have achieved the same with a simple one footed slide tackle but instead he chose to dive in, flying through the air with both feet airborne crashing into the ball with virtually no chance of retaining the ball,

A well executed one footed slide tackle enables the player to rise quickly and retain possession of the ball.

I love well executed slide tackles and I still conjure up memories of Graham Cross carrying them out to perfection but this was the wrong option, dangerous and stupid.

Superb post... If this had been one of their lads on one of our lads we would have been up in arms and would have said that a red card was absolutely the right decision..

This thread reflects the fickleness of footy fans....

Agree, Glenn Hysen was my hero long ago. Made some stunnning tackles against England too. :D

Look from 0.20 and forward.

Anyone remember this game....

Doesn't matter if he gets the ball or it's a solid tackle, he endangered the other player with a 2 footed lunge and that's a straight red 3 match ban... I don't know why some people on here can't grasp the rules

1) You have NO control over a two footed tackle.

2) He's left the ground and whether that be one or two footed, the force that goes into it is much higher than anything you could generate if you don't leave the ground.

3) Studs are always going to be up.

Use your head.

It was a bit low to the ground for a header

Having been at the game and also watched on telly again, he is so far off the floor and two footed, however he does take the ball, but we all know 2 footed lunges will get you a red card........

oh and it was never a pen king touches the ball .

anybody who questions these sort of tackles, or claims its now a non-contact sport, let me jump in the air with forwards momentum from running, two feet first, wearing studded boots and hardened soles and land on one of your legs.

please?
