Guest ttfn Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 The 8 or 9 goals he bagged for Everton also need to be put in perspective. If Everton had a decent striker, they'd have be challenging the top 6. The midfield is quality, and the kind of service that was being offered up to Beckford last year must have been unreal. Last time Everton had a decent striker (slim-line Yak, c. 2008), he bagged 20. He never was, and, at the age of 27, never will be, a particularly good centre forward.

Not even for leeds and here was me thinking he scored 30+? and it was 10 last season.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 He's banging them in for me on FIFA 12
Bugg Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 He's been garbage this season so far, but he's been a prolific scorer (albeit in league 1) in the past and I doubt he's lost that class I would say he's just in poor form at the minute and will hopefully get his form/confidence back. My concerns is that he has a woeful first touch and he can be punished because of it, as seen today and his work rate is not up to scratch (by how much Yakubu's work rate was being slated by those on here whilst scoring goals I think this point is pretty valid)
Larry_LCFC Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 He reminds me of Yakubu in a way. Looks lost and like he doesnt care. Difference is Yakubu scored goals. Beckford has a lot to prove and we need him. He needs to find form and the back of the net. Hatrick against West ham!
dannythefox Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Its svens job to sharpen him up and quick, you dont lose class in a few weeks!
renards Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Says he was asked to change his style of play after signing, worrying
crisp packet Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 For me he plays off a forward I.e playing forwards not back to goal , we at the min are asking him to win flick ons and hold it up ' a la Howard ' he plays off a forward and needs wingers in short we spend far too long getting the ball in box for him to look affective..... More than good enough if had service!!!
Fox92 Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 I don't personally think he is that good, but everyone got excited when we signed him for some reason. Look at his record, no goals for Leeds in this division, scored for fun for Leeds in League 1, moved into a very good Everton team and scored 8. Not exactly fantastic in my opinion, and not worth what we paid. He never looks interested and can't be bothered to chase a ball if it doesn't come to his feet. How come Nugent is getting the same service but still scoring?
Guest ttfn Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Its svens job to sharpen him up and quick, you dont lose class in a few weeks! What class? He scored nearly 30 for Leeds in League 1: a feat achieved by the much-maligned Matty Fryatt for us. And for reasons I've outlined above, 8 Premier League goals for Everyon is nothing to write home about.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Should we have took a punt on Adam Le Fondre at a quarter of the price.. how the fook Reading seem to get every striker and unearth them as gems is beyond me.... we've had Kevin Doyle, Shane Long, and now him ... every bargain they get turns to be good. We a lot of the times, bar Nugent, seem to be the opposite.
RizLCFC Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Says he was asked to change his style of play after signing, worrying Leicester always seem to do this, when they sign a player that's played well elsewhere they come here and look shit, when they sell a player who looks shit here he goes elsewhere and does good, why does this happen?
Guest ttfn Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Says he was asked to change his style of play after signing, worrying Well that is clearly a load of shit. With the wealth at our disposal there is no way that we would have bought anything but what Sven considers the finished article.

All am going to say is hes a class act when hes form. 07-08 34goals 08-09 20goals 09-10 31goals in all comps and 8 for everton last season! Clearly good enough for leicester!
accessory Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 All am going to say is hes a class act when hes form. But he won't recapture any form with the attitude he showed yesterday. He doesn't seem to get on with his team-mates at all.
bettso Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 But he won't recapture any form with the attitude he showed yesterday. He doesn't seem to get on with his team-mates at all. Strange you say that as against Watford he and Nugent were having a real laugh together up front and must have 'high 5'd' at least 10 times. Games like yesterday, all the players were arguing with each other. Kasper and Bamba had words at one point as did St Ledger and Peltier and at one point Johnson and Wellens.
dannythefox Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 But he won't recapture any form with the attitude he showed yesterday. He doesn't seem to get on with his team-mates at all. Everyone throws a strop once in a while!
woody01530 Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 I'll never forget the goal at manurinals That makes him a legend.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 I said when we first signed Beckford and, of course, no one listened because he was our 'new big signing'... That he can blow very hot and cold. When he's the 'king pin' in a team and confident he can be very very good. But HES A MOODY BASTARD that can be a massive disruptive influence both on and off the field... This is why the Leeds fans never took to him, despite his goals for them. I highly doubt that Sven is a tough enough character to keep him in check Not the sort of player I ever wanted at City and say again that CMS was the missed signing of the season. Anyway, tis in the past.. Somehow Sven has gotta get Jermaine firing because yesterday he was utterly utterly gash!
Kitchandro Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Hmmmmm....well, in his defence, he's had shocking service. We were well aware that he needed chances to score goals but the way the way we've sent up and the players we've got will not do that. But there's no denying he's been absolutely woeful, and I agree with those saying he's so far looked worse than any striker we've had, Carl Cort was better. We can't write him off this early, but I have this nagging thought in the back of my mind that he was too good for League 1, and profited from better players creating chances for him in the Premiership - but is not physical or quick enough (in mind and with the ball, I don't just mean sprinting) for the Championship. One thing I am sure about though is he should be dropped, we've got a promising lad called Schlupp not even getting on the bench, I know it was mostly against lower league opposition, but his goal scoring record is brilliant. I couldn't understand it when he scored against Derby and he wasn't on the bench v Birmingham. He'd have been full of confidence and if ever there was a time to keep him on the bench it was then. I say we start Schlupp at West Ham, he won't be any worse than Beckford.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Cast your mind back to deadline day. Remember all the excitement and large number of posts, willing him to sign. Some of those people are now slagging him off, and calling him rubbish! Funny old world, isn't it.

You can play Ronaldo and Messi up front if you like, we will still contrive to give them no decent ball so It won't make any difference at all. Until we start playing like a team that actually knows what it is doing and goes about it in a constructive and organised manner it doesn't matter who we pick or where we play them....... Beckford is the perfect foil to the big man in a classic 'big man, liitle man' setup, shame we don't play with a big man........

Beckford is the perfect foil to the big man in a classic 'big man, liitle man' setup, shame we don't play with a big man........ Beckford's attitude stinks. I remember posting a word of caution when he was being linked with City and being shot down by some of the fantasists that frequent this forum. If a bloke is not prepared to work his socks off for the shirt he shouldn't be at the club. Beckford is a lazy sod in the Yakubu mould and was nothing more than a panic buy. A useless signing in my opinion.
Novas Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 He was a lazy fker at Leeds too. however Beckford needs a good striking partner too. Beckford played well alongside Lucciano Becchio and scored an amazing amount of goals for Leeds, he needs the service, and as I said above he needs someone to play alongside him. Currently at Leeds we have a partnership between Ross McCormack and Andy Keogh, Ross has currently scored 9 goals, it helps.
