Leicester Falcon Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 A good solid win for us last night brought with it an array of positives. Sven had some big decisions to make prior to kick off last night and the changes he made, for me, where spot on. Bringing in Beckford and Wellens were positive calls from the start and Wellens shown again his industrious class and why he's so integral to this team's success. Beckford started brightly and had some nice touches with good movement. He may not have set the World alight last night but he scored, that was the important thing for him. Now that monkeys off his back he can crack on and start enjoying his football. Johnson got 90 minutes in. This boy looks good to me. He sat in front of the back four and did the simple things very well. Foot on, and away it went. He's not up to speed on his fitness just yet but those 90 minutes will help him no end. I think we can expect good things from this young man in the coming weeks ahead. Watford were poor, let's be honest, but you can only beat what's put in front of you and beat them we did. City did enough in the first half and it was all very easy for us, probably to easy and the game was allowed to fizzle out because of it. For me though, among all these positives, there was one bloke that shone for me and he's one that continues to stand head and shoulders above everyone else each time I see him play. David Nugent is the business. He oozes class and put in another good shift last night. The thing that impresses me most about the Nuge is his first touch. He's a proper striker and proper strikers need to have a killer first touch, this boy has that. His goal last night was all about his first touch, just as it was against Derby. He kills any chance of a Watford interception with it, bang, it's dead and set for him to finish. The boys movement is good too and he'll thrive here because of it. The Nuge has had his problems but coming to Leicester is probably the best thing he's done since nicking that goal from Jermaine Defoe on his full England debut. Unlike other clubs in the championship, here he has supply. Good solid supply from decent midfielders. If he can forge a good understanding with Beckford while he's at it then City have some power in attack. I only see more good things to come from the Nuge and I look forward to seeing him more and more.

Babylon Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Nugent has shown what a good striker is all about, thankfully some people can finally forget about bloody Fryatt and Waghorn, because so far they aren't fit to lace this lads boots.
Criggers Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I think the consensus of most LCFC fans would say that along with Kasper Schmeichel signing David Nugent was the best bit of business we did in the summer window. Hopefully Michael Johnson will be added to that list as his fitness improves.
Fox92 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I would rather have a free Dave Nugent over a £6million Nicky Maynard or £7million Shane Long.

And never will be. and when beckford really gets into his stride fryatt and waghorn will finally be history.
He's not bald Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I would rather have a free Dave Nugent over a £6million Nicky Maynard or £7million Shane Long. Rubbish, we should have brought a proper striker like Adam LeFondue!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Nugent is quality. Only 26 n all. Signing of the season- for all clubs
MrSpaM Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Nugents quickly becoming my favorite city player, just seems to be getting better and better too. To get him on a free was an absolute bargain!
lovelcfc Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I would rather have a free Dave Nugent over a £6million Nicky Maynard or £7million Shane Long. This
Tommy G Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Good post. I agree totally, with Kasper and Pelts to add to the list of impressive signings. Home form aswell looking much better
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I would rather have a free Dave Nugent over a £6million Nicky Maynard or £7million Shane Long. Id have rather had all three! To be fair - the idea of Nugent, Beckford and Vassell a couple of years ago would have been laughable so I shouldnt be too picky!
Lambert09 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 No reason to forget Fryatt his goals got us back to this league and for that we owe him a lot, we have moved on sure, and he wouldnt get anywhere near this team now, but lets not be thickle because he's not here anymore, I go to Uni in Hull and would most certainly buy him a beer if I bumped into the lad.
Corky Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Never had any doubts about his work-rate but wasn't convinced by his quality. His quality is his composure, last two goals expertly taken after superb first touches. Brilliant capture so far.
believer Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 So how come, according to some, the reason Nugent flourishes at LCFC is because he receives good supply, but the reason Beckford resembles a brick wall is because he isn't getting any service from midfield? Agreed though Nugent has looked very impressive.

Forget get him as in not constantly saying "why did we sell Fryatt", "Fryatt has scored for Hull he's great", "What a bad decision to sell Fryatt" etc etc etc.
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Nugent has shown what a good striker is all about, thankfully some people can finally forget about bloody Fryatt and Waghorn, because so far they aren't fit to lace this lads boots. It is about time that fookin fryatt et al were laid to rest. Not literally of course! But where does it stop? People will be comparing our current strikers with big Ian Marshall next!
Raj Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Nugent is class. Also think him and Becks will hit it off and whack in some good goals together. Can also see them dining out alone together at Nandos

Mike the Metal Ed Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I was watching Fry's Planet Word the other week, and during a bit about localism, showed shots of him watching Norwich v Pompey at Carrow Road last season, and a bit the following week too. Every clip shown so far as had Nugent involved in Pompey's attacking threat, and I've loved everything I've seen from him this season, too. Great capture.
Finnegan Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Good post. I agree totally, with Kasper and Pelts to add to the list of impressive signings. Home form aswell looking much better Glad you mentioned those two as well because the three represent some great business that was very affordable amidst national hysteria about how 'much' we spent. And none of them needed 'time to gel' either. Top signings.
Babylon Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 But then I'd have to take my poster down. It's time son, it's time. You need to let him go.
Corky Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 It's time son, it's time. You need to let him go. It's tough. I stuck with him through those years when everyone thought he was crap, couldn't score. He had a great season in League One and he was just below God in the pecking order. And when he left, I was like then But I will try to let him go.

One thing buying him a pint to say thank you. But he was'nt even the best striker in that division let alone stepping up one. So many on here seem to think he was the new lineker or something. We now have one of the best strikers from that division from that season. Who has also had time in the prem. Matty will only get that chance if he is lucky and hull go up. Even then i doubt he will play many games and be lucky to get 5 all season. IMO
