sphericalfox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Not sure if that adds up. I shall have to think about it. Read it slowly. It makes sense.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 A good plowing session before bed time does the trick for me. Fantastic
Webbo Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 I have this problem often, I just can't switch my brain off. I usually get up and read for half an hour. If that doesn't work and I'm desperate I go downstairs lie on the settee and watch the TV, that usually works for me. Edit;Ever notice you never get insomnia when you haven't got to get up in the morning?
BoneDog Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 I've got one of those miners and cavers lights that they put on their hats. I wear it every night and read in bed until I nod off. Sometimes wake up with a start when I drop a heavy book on the floor and go "WAAAAAAAH GET OFF YA BASTARD", and kick the radiator.

Are you sure your not wearing that head light to do some bedtime pot holing ? I'm just the opposite and easily fall asleep . It's very rare that I can stay awake much after about nine o'cl
themotivator Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 i feel for you man. i have just stopped trying/worrying about going to sleep. just do something that involves as little interaction as possible. my personal fave... http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/#r-ws
ramboacdc Posted 31 October 2011 Posted 31 October 2011 White noise This works for me after about half hour or so im in the land of nod Just find the correct frequency for you and you are away Also works better with headphones i have never tried this but i have to have something playing on my laptop to get to sleep unless i am blind drunk!
jonno24 Posted 31 October 2011 Posted 31 October 2011 i have never tried this but i have to have something playing on my laptop to get to sleep unless i am blind drunk! The white noise for me helps because i need complete darkness and either silence or the white noise to get to sleep. Something about the constant tone that sets me off to sleep people think its linked to the sound that we hear in the womb. Also once i fell asleep doing the hoovering woke up with a massive gash on my head where i had smashed it on the wall falling over
Charl91 Posted 31 October 2011 Posted 31 October 2011 I can sleep pretty much anywhere. Cars, planes, trains. Can mostly get to sleep in ten minutes or less, even if i'm not really tired. Lucky really, I shared a hall first year with 36 people (one small kitchen and 4 toilets between 36 isnt fun) and now this year, I'm right next to the student pub, which plays music till 2, so would have been so frustrating if I'd been a light sleeper.
Saxondale Posted 31 October 2011 Posted 31 October 2011 Been there. Actually struggling with sleep at the moment, but this is due to back pain - aaaagh! The best advice I can give is to try and establish a pattern as much as possible. For example, if it takes you ages to get to sleep, don't then compensate by lying in in the mornings (when you're not working or whatever). Make sure you get up at a reasonable time even at weekends and any lack of sleep will make you a bit more tired the next night. Also, don't worry about the lack of sleep, because this just makes it worse and stresses you.
leicesterseddon Posted 31 October 2011 Posted 31 October 2011 Getting up earlier in the morning and doing exercise is the only real solution to be honest. If you're tired enough, your body will switch off anywhere. Also don't watch TV / go on your laptop just before you go to sleep. And make sure your room is slightly colder than room temperature.
ozleicester Posted 31 October 2011 Posted 31 October 2011 I have found that muscle relaxation works quite well. Beginning in my toes, i tense each muscle i can isolate and hold it as long as possible, then relax and move to the next heading up my body... works ok for me most times i dont often remember getting past the chest/shoulders

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I have had the same problem with falling asleep for around two years now. In fact, since I had to give up walking in my old job. Lack of exercise I believe is the main reason. I don't go to bed now until between three and five in the morning, and sometimes I still have to wait a few hours. IT'S NOT AT ALL NICE.
Rincewind Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I can easily stay up until around three in the morning but I'm sleepy during the day or watching telly. Got used to nights.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I've tried counting pints, instead of sheep, and it still doesn't work!
Captain... Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 You need to be mentally tired and physically tired to get to sleep. I have days where I do lots of exercise but still can't sleep because my mind is racing, this where things like reading helps, or having hobbies that occupy your mind, especially if you have a physical job or not a mentally taxing job. In the same way if you have a very sedantry job you need to do some physical exercise. The other thing which has been mentioned before is a routine, and try not sleep during the day, try to go to bed at the same time every day, but don't go to bed until you feel tired and sleepy. Sitting in front of the TV all evening doesn't help because you just veg, whereas things like playing computer games before you go to bed are over stimulated. There are so many other factors that can affect your sleep such as what you eat, what you drink less fast food, ready meals and sugary food and drink, more healthy fresh foods. I guess what I'm saying is keep healthy, active and busy and hopefully you will get to sleep easier.

When I get into bed with my partner, she snores, and when I get into bed with my wife, she does the same, but not quite as badly. Drives me mad!
Rincewind Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 You have a partner and a wife? Very liberal and tireing I guess.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 I am so wide awake that it will be a waste of time going to bed. Think Ill take the dog for a walk. Even she is snoring.

Edit;Ever notice you never get insomnia when you haven't got to get up in the morning? This is the only time i ever struggle with sleeping. I work a nightshift Mon-Thursday and come friday morning when i get home i am so shattered it is just impossible not to get at least a few hours kip in straight the way. This is where the problem lies but the few times i have tried to stay awake on a friday, come sort of 3-4pm time i am like a zombie!! I can go to bed at 1-2am on friday night/sat morning and be up wide awake at 5am. The same the next day aswell. If i manage to get 12hours kip between friday morning & monday morning i consider it a success!!
Zingari Posted 7 November 2011 Posted 7 November 2011 Have you tried watching some of the Architects and Engineers, or Pilots for 911 truth films I posted in the WTC7 thread ?
