Sleep Problems

Recommended Posts

The past couple of years I've been having real problems falling asleep and quite frankly it just seems to be getting worse but, when I finally get to sleep, I struggle to wake up again, I will just keep sleeping through any alarm clock and end up not waking up until mid-day.

Basically I'm looking for suggestions on how to help me get myself to sleep?

Tire yourself out more often, concentrate on your breathing when trying to sleep and leave your c0ck alone.

Also try to clear your mind

Good luck

Insomnia is one of the worst feelings I've ever had. I occasionally go through stages where I struggle to fall asleep and then wake up after about 3 hours sleep, no matter when I go to bed. I've never found a way around it apart from just sticking it out until it's over.

I know its not exactly the same problem but it still ruins you for weeks at a time.

I have tried most of the ideas I have found on the net but the only thing that gets me to sleep is playing an audiobook that I know well and falling asleep to that. New material never works, it has to be something I know really well so I know what is coming next.

I hope this helps you out.

White noise

This works for me after about half hour or so im in the land of nod

Just find the correct frequency for you and you are away

Also works better with headphones

Alcohol in large portions.

sleeping, not passing out.

I have tried audio-books & music and that doesn't seem to help, might give that white noise thing a go.

Do you have an iPod or iPhone or something connected to wifi near you when you sleep? I had my iPod permanently connected to wifi on my bed side table and had a weeks worth of terrible sleep where it took me ages to get to sleep and then constantly waking up when I finally did get to sleep. I turned off the wifi connection on the iPod and was fine after that. Bit worrying.

One thing is important and that is to make sure the room is a s dark as you can get it. turn off anything that gives out light and use thick curtains.

I learned a trick from a doctor about relaxation. The idea is to relax as many muscles in your body as possible; this is done by tightening the muscle then quickly relaxing it.

Start with your toes, heels then up your legs isolating each pair of muscles until you reach your face muscles. After that you should be totally relaxed and I find that it also clears my mind of all the crap that's been keeping me awake.

Melatonin is something people have recommended to me, it's a natural supplement and you might also try that.

Don't drink caffeine, the wi-fi thing sounds interesting, my laptop is connected to it but it's on the opposite side of the room so I wouldn't have thought it would have much of an affect.

I've had a lot of turmoil over the last 6 months and as such my sleep has been affected dramatically. I've had everything from herbal to Zopiclone to Diazepam and nothing worked until the doctor but me on Phenergan Tablets.

You can buy them on the net for about £6 and they are brilliant.

Sleep problems! HA!

You should try having a 2yr old! Then you'll know sleep deprivation :dunno:

I share a house with 9 other students, ergo I live with 9 people with a mental age of 2.

Well as a student I lived with 16 people and my residence was directly above a club playing shite music until 3am. I kid you not! I don't think I've had a good night since then.

By the way drinking actually exasperates the issue. Your brain cannot physically reach the last few levels of REM sleep, thus equating to feeling very tired the next day and feeling worse for your hangover. Don't try to drink yourself to sleep.

Several issues I had was:

a.) having a television in your room

b.) smoking in my room/before sleep (it is a stimulant)

c.) eating late or beyond 8/9pm

d.) not burning off enough energy

e.) drinking alcohol

f.) noise external/internal to where you live

g) bad curtains/covering for the window (external light)

Now I still can admit that I still suffer from about 5 of those issues, plus I have a 2 yr old who gets up at 6:00am EVERY morning.

I've not found a solution to the issue yet, so I'll be seeking the ultimate cure a lobotomy, virtual or otherwise.

That or take up some exercise again.

Fell asleep for twenty minutes about 10mins ago....looks like getting to bed will prove difficult tonight now... :frusty:

How to make your Monday that much more shitty 101.

Not sure if that adds up. I shall have to think about it.
