Saladin Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Perhaps I've missed it, but I haven't seen much mentioned about a certain Lloyd? I thought his two assists were brilliant..
Ric Flair Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Can't believe I'm about to say this but I agree with Thrac about Beckford. Was shocked to read how many people thought he played well. If he'd not had those two shots that were well saved his all round contribution to the game was questionable. My biggest criticism of Beckford last night was that he has a puny neck, it's really thin. Other than that I thought he was great.
Happy Fox Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/9651308.stm? Cracking stuff from NFP at the end
Guest Col city fan Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Beckford looked more hungry and eager... Basically happier I think. However, his first touch remains shocking. The amount of times the ball was passed into his feet and it bobbled away due to lack of close control was poor for a player of his supposed calibre. He was alright last night and improving. To say he was brilliant is ridiculous.
marbelladave Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Morning all. Bloody awful drive home last night so I was far too knackered to post, so for what it is worth...... Very interesting first half, Blackpool pacy and fluid, City rather stilted. The Blackpool front six were sharper more focused and better set up than City, and for half an hour they pretty much blew us away. The only thing that was keeping us in the game was some rather robust defending from Konchesky and particularly Bamba and a couple of excellent saves from Schmiechel. Leicester started to come into the game just after the half hour and although their play was not as slick and incisive as Blackpool it did look dangerous and a succession of attacks and corners built up some pressure, Beckford had a decent chance from a Wellens cross but failed to beat the keeper who made a decent save. A succession of City attacks culminated in a decent move that got Dyer driving at the box then finding King in the clear to slide the ball in from close range. Somewhat against the run of play but as I said, City were looking dangerous This boosted City for around 10 minutes but Blackpool fought back strongly and finished the half pressing hard, City were lucky to be in front, especially in terms of possession but City did create some decent chances and possibly looked more dangerous in the box. It was all change after the break, whatever NFP said at half time really galvanised the team, hugely more pace, energy and determination. As a result, the space that Blackpool found to play in first half just disappeared and City found themselves well on top. They were creating chances and the best fell to Beckford whose finishing was not quite descisive enough to beat Gilks. Just after the hour, NFP brought on Howard and Danns and switched to a 4-5-1, but maintained a decent threat on the counter. Dyer continued to provide the width on both sides and Nugent and Danns switched about nicely, going wide one minute and supporting Howard the next. The pressure finally told, Wellens playing Dyer in on Gilks who he beat to cross to Danns who almost fluffed his chance, but didn't. City played out the remaining 10 minutes in reasonable comfort, they continued to get forward but the earlier urgency was not there and they pretty much cruised home. An impressive performance against a decent Blackpool side, took City about 30 minutes to really get going then they were largely the dominant side and the win was comfortable in the end. Even more impressive was that several of our players can clearly do better, so even though not quite firing on all cylinders we won the game, interesting......
Babylon Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 My biggest criticism of Beckford last night was that he has a puny neck, it's really thin. Other than that I thought he was great. I honestly find it amazing, I and the people I was with must have viewed a completely different. The number of groans around us because of his poor touch, poor choice of pass, or poor execution were quite regular. I'm not saying he was bad. And I don't want to it look like I'm blasting the lad, far from it. But I'd never have used "great", "awesome", "amazing", "excellent" to describe his game. Just proves how we all see different things.

That was quality. Then he'd lose the ball far too easily the next minute. Certainly not 'great'... But getting better

Often looks pretty uncomfortable when involved in our buildup play and his decision making when in possision is often poor yet he gets in attempts at goal from positions no one else can..... Overall though I remain unconvinced, not so much in his individual play, more in his ability to fit in and really contribute to the team.
crafty fox Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 i think hes changed for the better now did anyone see him hug pearson and punch and the air when he got subbed ? he would of spat his dummy out before. he could be the difference this year between failure and success and i think as a bunch of fans we need to sing his name and encourage the lad as much as possible ! his two strikes were top drawer and matched by top saves aswell - unlucky
whitlock Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Top marks to their keeper Gilks, had some banter in the second half and then at FT turned and clapped to kop. Was good to see.
breadandcheese Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Perhaps I've missed it, but I haven't seen much mentioned about a certain Lloyd? I thought his two assists were brilliant.. Man of the match for me. He was a constant danger and the man to unlock their defence.
easilee Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 My biggest criticism of Beckford last night was that he has a puny neck, it's really thin. Other than that I thought he was great. Now we know why he doesn't like to head the ball. It would bend like a straw.

Leicester_Loyal Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Beckford was ok, at times he was quality, if his little chip had been on target then he probably would have scored. At other times though, his touch was pathetic. Whatever Nigel says at HT seems to work wonders and always gets us going in the second half, its happened for three matches in a row now. Roll on Hull.
Guest Col city fan Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Did you see the big hug he got from NP when he came off? Speaks volumes. Yes I did.. Same with Danns... And yes it does speak volumes. For the first time last night I felt that we could have some success this season. If Pearson picks up a couple of quality players in Jan this squad could be going places.
allotment-fox Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 they were hard to work out for us in the first half B.pool seem to like to play at a high tempo. glad to get to half time being one up they had a lot of chances first half and a good job they never had their shooting boots on may have been a different game if one had gone in Lloyd had a good game in my book looked like he was asking to come off just before our 2nd goal glad he kept going, I was listening to a phone in a few weeks ago and alan you said the game does not have wide men ! well eating his words now with that play last nite by our Lloyd Their keeper made some fine saves and nice to see the players smiling again well done the lads 3 more points to the cause roll on Saturday
Jimbo Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 The thing with Beckford is that we can all see a marked improvement in his attitude. This may lead to some saying he was brilliant when in fact he was just average. But his attitude and workrate seems have improved. Lets not forget he was a part time footballer working for the RAC who was picked up for his goal scoring abilities. I don't think his touch will ever improve but if you watch his movement he's getting better. most of the moves he makes are purely selfish, he doesn't move to take defenders out of the game but he gets himself into good positions to give himself a chance. Nothing wrong with that and if we start to pick him out more then he will score more goals. If we are rating him of his efforts compared to a few weeks ago then he deserves an 8 or 9, but his all round game, although not poor, wasn't great. Just think people are getting a little clouded because they are happy to see some work coming from him.
funkyrobot Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Beckford had two damned good shots which might have earned him goals. Otherwise he looked keen enough but certainly didn't play well. His lack of either vision or selflessness frustrated his team-mates no end. Four times in the first half he totally ignored well placed runners to go it alone into a proverbial brick wall. It's a wonder the players bother making the runs at all for all the chance they've got of getting a pass. And his control was still clumsy at times. "Better" was probably the most you could say. He's dangerous no question and his ability to shoot so early is what sets him apart but I'd not say he "played well" at all. People want to believe he played well but for anyone else tonight would rated a six or seven at the most. I can't agree with the criticism of beckford, together with nugent he was a pain in the arse for Blackpool, he created a couple of excellent chances for himself and his first touch is not bad, he uses it to try and turn a player, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Same with nugent. If there were any players who you could criticise from last nights excellent performance, you could say millsy's passing was pretty poor and wellens and king struggled to control the centre of midfield up until the last thirty mins when wellens took more of a grip of the game. Other than the goal, king again did very little, I just look at him these days as a deep sitting goal poacher with nugent's work rate compensating for his lack of involvement for most of the game!
nuttytimmy Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Belated conclusions (I was on the train). Great performance by all accounts.

city1993 Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Most important factor was keeping a clean sheet against Blackpool who have been scoring for fun. Dyer excellent, Danns very commendable when he came on. Same 11 for Saturday or any changes? Huge game on Saturday, very difficult.
