first name on the team sheet for me :D

theres always room in the team for a free kick specialist, and you've got to be impresed by his penalty kicks :celebrate:

Gally has got qualities.. He's a fine passer of the ball and not bad at set pieces.. Nothing special at them but the best we have currently.

However, you are watching a different player to me if you don't think he's slow and crap at tackling.

For me, the introduction of Lloyd Dyer back into the team has provides the ingredient that was missing in Svens teams... Pace.

We look a much better side when we are attacking with speed of thought and fleet of foot and this encourages us to counter attack more. Thracian must be delighted with this!

I'd simply like a right winger in the team who is quick and tricky... Someone who can push the ball past a defender and cut it back to the incoming strikers.

Gally, for all his technical ability, cannot do this and slows up play, time after time.

Gally can win a game one week.... However, he can lose a game the next by being too pedestrian when we need to put teams in the back foot.

Two nippy, tricky wingers please Nigel.. We have one in Lloyd Dyer who can hopefully push on with his form. Id like another.

I said he is slow and crap at tackling, I said he wasn't lazy. The way I worded it wasn't great.

We do need more pace no doubt, and Dyer's pace is an asset. But if we can get someone with pace and technical ability (well at least more technical ability than Dyer) then that would be ideal.

You can run as fast as you like but if you can't do anything with the ball you may as well be a sprinter instead. Likewise If you can make the ball do the work sometimes pace is irrelevant.

Anyway it's no secret that we need someone who is suited to play on the wings. Even so I think Gallagher is a very useful player, whereas I'd say Dyer is only useful until we do what is necessary - find someone with the same pace but better on the ball.

I don't want to turn this into a Dyer slating thread either though, he played well on Tuesday and deserves credit and a place in the side on Saturday.

Agree with you totally.

The worst thing about Gallagher is the goals he scores, if he didnt score the long rangers he would have nothing hin his game and he would be criticised by everyone, but as he scores 'class' goals he must be good.

He isnt poor, but he isnt good either. What I will say though is that it is embarrassing for Scotland he hasnt even made a squad in recent times, Levein blatantly doesnt know he is Scottish.

Or Craig knows he's shit more like!

Ahhh, my favourite argument in football is that. The classic "if you take away everything that's good about him, there's nothing good about him." Who'd have thought, ey?

At uni so I can't get to matches any more.....now we're playing a 4-4-2 (are we?), couldn't it suit Gally playing a double role? He doesn't give us any natural wing-play anyway so doesn't playing him wide right allow him to drift in field and play 'in the hole' at times? He can then be a threat with crosses and from a more central position when needs be.

Compare this to playing a 4-3-3 when he needs to stay out on the flank to cover the full back and as an outlet in attack.

This is true.

Gallagher provides guile and is our most creative and dangerous player around the edges of the box. His best position is playing in the hole behind the striker.

Notice I said striker, not strikers! If we play with two up he is not strong enough to play as one of a central pair so he ends up on the flank, either side. If we have an attacking fullback who can get past him on the outside, he can come inside and do his thing, this is how he is playing at the moment.

That can work quite well but when the fullback, Peltier in this case, does not get forward (as at Pompey) then Gallagher is much less effective.

The 'modern' way is to play 4-5-1, with 3 attacking players supporting the front man, for this you need plenty of pace and a bit of creativity. This is how NFP sets us up after he made the substitutions in the last two games, the pace comes from Dyer and Nugent, the creativity from Danns. I see Gallagher as a viable alternative to Danns in that role.

It is difficult to see us start agame in this formation as apart from Howard we have no one to lead the line, and Howard is far less effective as a starter than he is as a substitute.

i rate him as can change a game in seconds like with his 2 goals against Palace, he is very inconsistent and floats in and out of the game and doesnt really get stuck in, but he is a flair player that isnt really expected

Gallagher is one of the most furstrating players. hes one of the most talented players but he is to inconsistent.

Gallagher is quality jack, who else would you have neil danns? he is sooooooooo shit, his goal wasnt even that good.

He isn't exactly quality, in fact, I wouldn't even call him 'good'.

I don't rate gallagher at all think he's just a boring average player only good for one thing and that's dead ball situations!

Totally agree, and sometimes his dead ball's are not that good - for example, he took a corner against Hull which didn't even beat the first man.

If anyone just listened to the Bootroom its his attitude that stinks for me a distinctly average player like Wellens who are massively overhyped we can do so much better, NP will sort it out.

I missed Bootroom again! :frusty:

What did he say?

Just the fact that he should be in the team, and then the usual crap about it is a team effort etc

if any player doesn't think they are good enough to play for us I don't want them here, he's not throwing his toys out of the pram because of it just saying he feels he's good enough to be 1st choice
