Hansen apologises for calling black players 'coloured'

But a lot of the black people (Sorry if I just caused offence there) who get oh so offended today weren't born into the prejudice of the 60s and 70s. They have grown up with equality (admittedly with decreasing racism) in the 80s and afterwards but still play the 'Oh poor me I'm so offended' card at every oppurtunity. You think they'd be grateful for greater tolerance but they just seem to want to put the nasty white people on edge 24/7 by playing the race card.

I'm not sure they should be grateful for tolerance, but I agree with the rest of it. Black people shouldn't be going out of their way to get offended, I mean for one they're just words, two they aren't personal enough to be truly offensive, and three, in this case, it wasn't used in an attempt to be offensive. Intent is the most impotant thing after all. If you know somebody isn't racist and isn't attempting to offend you why should you be offended at all?

Coloured is an old-fashioned term and I can understand why black people would prefer to be called black. But he didn't mean anything by it so there's no reason for anyone to fly off the handle. If anything people should chuckle at his old-fashionedness.

While we're on this subject, another thing that annoys me is this lack of black managers thing. Chris Powell says he feels like a role model for black managers and something needs to be done to get more black managers. Why? Chris Powell is a manager, why is it an issue what race he is, or what race any of the managers are? Making an issue of it is wrong and not inthe spirit of equality.

I'm now hoping that nobody mistook my earlier rant as a slightly more eloquently worded version of this.

Cos this is complete bollocks.

I know, cheeky cvnts wanting to be treated as equals in the country they were born in.

Yes racism is decreasing but it still exists in this country, it is evidenced by parties like the BNP and EDL, by the disproportionate number of ethic minorities in positions of power, by the abuse aimed at them by Tram Woman and people like that purely because they look different.

Are you seriously suggesting that we should accept current levels racism because it is not as bad as it used to be?

They are a minority though, so there will naurally be less of them.

I'm not saying that there is no racism but it's hardly a good reason to be overly sensitive is it? Most black people haven't suffered true oppression. Some individuals making racist comments is hardly oppression.

That's racist, pal.

But their families were. Generations went through it and that will have a knock-on effect to the next generations, the current one and in the future.

Society is so much better and far more accomodating now but still beliefs persist and I don't think it's correct to tell people what is offensive to them and what isn't.

No it isn't correct, but neither is telling people that everything they say is unacceptable just because somebody finds it offensive.

Of course people should try their best not offend people with their language, but sometimes, people are offended very easily when no offence was meant, and in some of those cases you have to say tough, they're just going to have to be offended.

The World is getting ridiculous now.. all this racism stuff it is stupid. The racist cards are out far too often in my opinion. I'll go back to them Muslim girls who were racist towards a white girl and even beat her up and they get nothing, yet you see white people getting done all the time now for the same thing.

Soon you will not be able to have a laugh with anyone anymore.

There was no evidence they were racist so the judge couldn't use that when sentencing them (incidentally they didn't get nothing they got community service).

Anyway, what racist cards are these? Do you mean racist Christmas cards? You know that is not what they mean by "I'm dreaming of a white christmas", unless you are getting cards off Nick Griffin.

You are right though, racism is stupid.

They are a minority though, so there will naurally be less of them.

Hence the use of the term disproportionate, proportionate to the number of ethnic minorities in the country there are very few in parliament, in the boardrooms, and as you mentioned above in the dugout. When you consider how many black players have played in England and retired in the last 20 years, very few become managers, this may be because none of them wanted to or it may be because of something more sinister at the heart of football, or a lack of role models, or a perceived lack of opportunities making black footballers not want to go into management. I think it is important to talk about it though.

I think this is one of those things which on a day to day basis really isn't offensive, but it's a clumsy mistake for Hansen to make. He's apologised, and that should be that.

Its not though. I bet there aren't many black people offended by his comment, and therefore not kicking up a stink about it. It'll be the PC brigade thinking they're speaking on behalf of black people.

What PC brigade? I haven't heard a single person talking about this, nobody is bothered, nobody is outraged by Hansen, nobody is calling for him to quit, nobody is offended in the slightest - black or white.

He's just realised that he's said something a bit old-fashioned on air, in the midst of two Premier League racism scandals, and has probably been advised by the editor of MOTD to make an official apology, which he has.

The only people who seem to give a shit are the anti-PC warriors who love to scream about how pampered everyone except white males are these days. And, er, me. And I only care that you care.

So we can't call them black, we can't call them coloured, we can't call them the 'n' word obviously, what are we actually allowed to call them?

The whole things a farce.

By their name.

You can describe a person by their colour, i.e. black, when making a physical description, but at what other point in your life do you need to refer to "them" by their colour?

I agree with Reginald D Hunter.

The British are shit at racism.

The Americans are fvcking pros.

I think what surprises me most about this whole thread is the amount of people that didn't realise that "coloured" is a touch old fashioned. Not inherently racist by itself, but still a touch old fashioned nonetheless.

I love the posts about what we're meant to call "them". Great work

Oh, and this whole episode is largely a fuss about nothing. If Hansen's a racist I will suck Finners' balls. Now, let's all get on with seeing where we fit on the colour chart. I reckon I'm roasted sesame seed, although I was more maple sugar after getting back from holiday.

Thinking about it, I was actually called "Paki" once by a chap in Lincoln after coming back off holiday. I come from such a retarded place.

Anyway, more importantly than this whole thing, I've just been bought a beer and my mum's homemade beef curry is on it's way. Christmas is awesome. I'm outta here
