Sol bamba...... Good or bad?

Or maybe you are deluded?

Not at all, as I'm sure you'd realise if you actually bothered to read the opinions of others instead of closing your eyes and blindly scribbling your own.

Nobody's saying he's world class but he's obviously been pretty solid this season, ask almost anybody. He's been one of our better defenders and was a key part of our back to back clean sheets under Sven. Yes, he's had a dip in form lately but so have most of the side.

We've got far bigger things to worry about than Sol Bamba yet you harp on about him like he's somehow worse than the Josh Lows or Elvis Hammonds of this world - we can all see he isn't.

Mills was much better today defensively, obviously his passing was abysmal but Bamba had really poor game imo. Looked completely flustered, played everyone onside for their goal (by a country mile), gave away silly free kicks outside the area and put his fellow defenders under unnecessary pressure.

Brilliant player and an absolute bargain. Why are you all slating Bamba? What about Beckford? Gallagher?

Because he's a bombscare. Why else was he left for years in the backwaters of the SPL, until the mercenary rescued him?

He had a decent first month for us, but has been going downhill ever since then.

No, he's been epic in a number of games this season and you have a weird hatred of him.

And why is what league players used to play in the be all and end all now? Fernandes is a god because he played in Serie A and Bamba is useless because he played in the SPL.

Kasper played in League 2 a while ago you know.

Think you're a total twat mate and you obviously don't put your money up and watch him play, sure he makes the odd mistake but he stops a great many attacks by his fantastic reading of the game-i lost count of the amount of times he saved us today, he mad a dangerous centre forward look average and i was watching from behind the goal not from my sofa!

wish he would make better decisions at the back, but sometimes he makes awesum last min tackles. Play him in midfield see how it goes.

Cosmos u say his reading of the game was fantastic today.... Who exactly played the Portsmouth forwards onside for the goal? Was it possibly bamba? I could see it from where I was sat in the stadium, and not from the sofa thanks.

I have never heard of there goal scorer before today and in my opinion for the last few years kitson has been an average striker who's good days are behind him.

Maybe ur view from behind the goal is obscured then because one thing sol is not and that is a fantastic reader of the game.

Also why do people who have never met each other think they can insult one another, this is football opinions and not personal opinions of individual people.

I'm glad there is mixed opinions as I don't believe bamba is a bad player I just believe he needs to drastically improve on some of his defensive play.

Thanks for your thoughts all you respectable foxes ....LTID

He's not bad, just erratic.

There are times where he looks in total control, and others where he looks like a clanger is on it's way at any time.

But at least he tries to find team-mates feet with his passes.

I've not read the whole thread, but I am going to guess it tured into a Mills versus Bamba debate, it seems it is impossible to like both.

The truth is we looked fragile at the back today, especially from set-pieces, this is not about Mills vs Bamba it is about finding a functioning centreback partnership who communicate and play for each other, Pearson has correctly identified them as the best 2 centrebacks at the club but they are not forming a partnership seen today with Bamba playing him onside for the goal, he should have been level with Mills or Mills level with him, and they should have been talking with themselves and the full backs to create a solid back four.

The fact is Brown and Hobbs formed a better partnership than Bamba and Mills have managed yet, despite being inferior players, as a whole we are much less than the sum of our parts and that is the problem.

I dont doubt Sol's ability but he is simply not good enough in the aspects of his game that I pointed out earlier - all of which are important attributes for a CB. Distribution is only one attribute of being a defender, granted he does it very well but its only a small part of the game. Hence, why I would play him in front of the back 4 as he can tackle and play simple passes. He is a liability at CB though and his threat from set pieces has disappeared. As for you laughing at me because the majority think he is 'good' , well about 6 months ago I was the only person not buying into the whole 'sol sol bamba' thing, and oh look now, people are beginning to realise that no defence will ever be solid with Bamba in. Remember it was only about 6 months ago that Wellens was our player of the season and it only took Paulo Sousa to turn reliable performer Michael Morrison into a conference standard player, things change very quickly in football, I also remember Elvis Hammond being an exciting attacker when he first joined us on loan...

Spot on..

But the only reason he hasn't played in midfield is because he has said, on several occasions, he doesn't want to.

Good footballer, woeful defender. At fault again today for a goal for being Braindead.

I feel sorry for any centre back next to him, it must be absolutely impossible to build a partnership and understanding with someone who barely spends any time in the position he is supposed to be in.

Bamba is a liability. Cant defend cant communicate and to say he's a good footballer is a joke aswell because everything he tries to do looks clumsey and when things come off its more by look than judgement. He'd be a nightmare to have as a defensive partner. Never rated him and id be looking to replace him. BRING BACK HOBBS!
