Matt Mills attitude

Of all the Sven signings, Mills is the player that I expected the most from..

Reading club captain, good in the air and everything I'd heard about Mills was positive.

I think he's gonna improve, but again, the reality is he's not yet lived up to the expectation that we had of him.

His sendings off have ruined any defensive consistency that we could have had and his passing, for a five million pound defender, has been surprisingly shocking.

I think Pearson will get the best out of him, and I do agree he's not been supported by a midfield that is physically just too weak.

But Mills has not impressed me at all so far, or rather, has not appeared to be the player I thought he would be.

Bullshit.

Watch the highlights. Towards the end when we're hanging on, a ball went up to Howard and he didnt win it or make any attempt to win it after it got away from him (not mentioned in commentary for some reason?), the ball gets played into the box and eventually put out for a corner. Mills gives Howard an absolute bollocking. I dont know where this lack of passion bullshit comes from and also no idea where the myth comes from that he doesnt talk enough on the pitch. He screams, shouts at everyone and when someone doesnt pull their weight, he pulls them up. When he needs to throw his body on the line he does, he puts his head where it hurts and isnt afraid of getting clattered.

Last season we were banging on about having a centre back that defended as a priority. Well here he is and we still ****ing moan.

I think the problem is, everyone is always saying at the ground or on the phone in, 'we need a defender like Walsheh'. Well Steve Walsh wasn't 'the legend' Steve Walsh after 20 ****ing games.

Give this guy a chance. He's cost big money (although many ITK have said it isnt the £5m reported) and he's our captain. No idea why after such a short time, fans are hammering the guy.

The players read these forums, twitter and listen to the forum on a Monday. Given the constant critisism, I'm not sure I blame the players if they aren't sprinting over to the fans to suck them off after a game.

The most sensible thing I have read on here in a long time :appl:

Time will tell. I will be the most apologetic and grateful fan in the world if he turns out to be worth the 5 million, but until then I will stick by what I have seen.

Well sitting on the fence a bit and stopping overt criticism that is often unfounded would be a start, if Matt is reading this he might even feel he has turned a corner. City fans in 'not slagging all their own players off' shock!!!

To you too Col ! keep it up.

Seenitall don't quite know where the unfounded criticism of mills is coming from but hey we all have our own opinions. I do respect yours because you are City through and through and as I said I hope i'm wrong in my judgement and you are right . If so I will gladly eat humble pie and by you a drink.

I think any player who lets the team down should be prepared for a moanathon, but a lot of the criticism I see on this board (and I'm sure all boards are the same) seems to set players in stone - if we don't like Mills, Beckford or Wellens they are capable of nothing good for us ever. It then gets to the point where we no longer appear capable of supporting a player because we are so set against him. This is a shame, because Wellens has given City some good service as has King, and Mills is too early in his career to say how he will end up for us, as is Beckford, Danns, etc.

If the players do read these boards (and they must be bonkers if they do) then imagine how soul destroying it must be, especially when you have done quite well, to know you are universally hated because you got sent off a month ago!

I got slagged off for giving Beckford a minus 3000 rating last week but the point being made was, for some, even if he does do well, it will not matter to them.

It's not just about the players though.

The attitude amongst our fans is dire.

Look at comments on here about the money we have and against other fans that come on here.

We ain't what a lot of people think we are.

And we lined the club and ourselves up for the tumble we have taken.

Hopefully NP can pull us round.

But any fan that came on here in the summer was told whoever we want would join us.

As we were going up and it left 2 places for the rest.

Now most would be happy if we scrape the play offs now.

Excellent point.

So much has been made of how much has been invested, but what doesn't get said is how unsuccessful we have been in acquiring players.

Maynard, Long, and Jelavic never came off. If you can believe the rumours, Sven wanted Naughton again but he ended up at Norwich.

The latest line of names remain nothing more than hopeful possibilites. Townsend is at Leeds.

Even last year Curtis Davies decided to go Birminham at the last minute when he twittered he was coming here and Shay Given never took us upon the loan Sven was reported to have offered.

I've posted before that for a variety of reasons in the Championship, the players that we have invested in do not give us a great competitive advantage over other teams (loans and "if they were that good, they wouldn't be playing in our league").

I think we need to move psychologically away from the short-term "buying the league" mentality which so many got sucked into, and accept that a longer-term team buiding strategy with a manager lasting more than 12 months will bring greater dividends.

Will give you that to.

And to back you up look at the list's for players to clear most are the same 8 to 10 players on all list's.

Fernandes and Johnson we can clear by ending the loan period ( we think Fernandes Has gone who we could have played and praps should of. Why have we not sent Johnson back when he don't look fit or intrested )

But all the other usual suspects will still be here cos at best they are average and we pay em top dollar compaired to other clubs.

And before you all blame Sven some of em won't have had a contract from Sven blame Mandi too.

Yes sven should never have given Oakley Howard and Wellens the deals he has.

I'll also be honest I have a problem with Richie Wellens. That is to do with the tiered old man not being able to train all week at 31.

FFS get a propper job Richie you wont last a week. Also if the rumours are true about the moving bust up with Sven (move ya fvcker then you won't be so tired ) All players should live within 40 miles of the club MAKE EM MOVE NP or FVCK EM OFFFFF

I noticed mills bollocking lazy Howard too. agree with your post 100%.

Nicked off Talking balls. Interesting stats that back up his defensive capabilities:-

Finished 17 league games conceding 13 goals (an average of 0.76 per game)

Without him, played 6 league games and conceded 11 goals (an average of 1.83 goals per game)

Even taking into account the games where he got sent off, he still has a ratio of 0.9 goals per game, still less than half that without him.

I can't see that he ever lacks passion and he's a formidable defender for the most part.

But people often forget that the defence is part of the attack just as vice-versa and Mills really would improve as a player if he worked on his distribution and retained possession more effeciently.

Just as with Kisnorbo at championship level, we don't score enough goals and our giving away possession too easily from the back is a factor in that.

Really cant say I'm surprised Mill's attitude has ended up burning his bridges at the club.

When St Ledger had a run in with the Manager he did the right thing... Knuckled down in training and proved his commitment and worth to Manager and Club, and got his reward.

Can you see Mills approaching this in the same manner? I cant. He'll more than likely take his arse in his hand remain in the cold and has probably played his last game for the club.

No loss in my opinion either.

If this had happened when Mills was a real asset to the team and had proven to be one of our best players then I'd be hoping that Nige and Mills could sort this situation out.

However, he hasnt and he isn't...

Nige is asserting his authority and if Mills leaves the club then there's nothing lost IMO.

For me, this whole Mills thing is singly the biggest reason I have far more faith in Pearson than I ever had in Sven.

Last night, the players seemed to be playing for the shirt.. None moreso than Danns.

They will know that if Pearson can drop Mills, he can drop anyone.

Excellent management IMO.

he got in the team because Tunchev played badly and had a groin injury and then performed, yes he was professional but he hardly proved his loyalty he was about to leave on loan when we said no due to a cb shortage

why do people pretend they actually know players personalities and attitudes. If Mill went mardy at not being in the squad, then thats good imo, why would you want a player here who is happy to collect his wages for doing nothing.

The next stage is important for Mills and has to apply himself in training in the correct manner and push for the starting 11. Mills has got to understand that we now have 4 (5 with tunchev fully fit) very good but different centre backs. With the drop from 7 to 5 subs it makes it harder for the manager to pick his subs. (i thought the idea of this was to get some youth talent coming through).

The fans were brilliant last night at Derby, I've just watched the game after working afternoons this week.

Get behind the lads and hopefully we break this back to back wins and push on from there in the league

Only his friends and family can say they know him personally.

I am talking about his Professional attitude, which has left a lot to be desired in my opinion.

We'll see his true colours more clearly in the coming days.

Posted

I don't think anything major has gone wrong, he's

Just had a bad game or two or 3! And been dropped.

Think this is good man management which was one of Svens floors.

One thing that used to really annoy me was no matter if Beckham had a goof or bad game

he refused to drop him. No player is bigger than the club. Mills should knucjle

Down and work to get back in the team thats all.

So we now know he wound a few unpleasantries into the gaffer.

Anyone think he will go and apologise?

Not me!
