FoxTrott Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I couldn't think of where else to put this, but I just wanted to say how nice it was to see corners and balls into the box from free kicks looking so much more threatening. Whenever Danns stood over the ball to take a corner or to box it in with a free kick, we looked like scoring throughout the Palace game. I was bloody sick of Gallagher's corners where he attempts to dink it slowly in the near post and it fizzing out horribly. Gally's free kicks are a bit more hit and miss - don't get me wrong I know he has a good delivery at times, but I felt Danns hit them at the perfect pace, not slow, hanging for too long and not over hit, into the exact area which cause pandemonium for goalkeepers - right inside a congested 6-yard box Here's to Danns playing in the middle from now on and being given set piece dead ball opportunities!
Christoph Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 From what I listened to and saw off the highlights, he certainly seemed more comfortable on the ball in the centre. I see no reason why he can't do it again, it also seemed like we played better with the 5-3-2/3-5-2 set up in the first half as well, so i'd like to see that again. With 3 in midfield, I think it can work.
NiftyFox Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 It was Danns' first time in the central midfield role for us and he performed well. He should never have played out wide. Keep starting him in the centre Nigel.
Yojoe36 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Good to see Danns playing in position, like he did when he was at Palace. His deliveries into the box were good, unlike Gallagher's, which always seem to get headed clear, or only make the first man. Hopefully we'll see him in the XI as a regular
Charl91 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Just saw the highlights - he scored a cracking goal too.
FoxTrott Posted 4 January 2012 Author Posted 4 January 2012 unlike Gallagher's, which always seem to get headed clear, or only make the first man. Exactly, I cannot bare seeing Gallagher take corners any more. They're always much too short, just not in the danger area. It's like they try and do a training ground move but it fails EVERY time.
cosmos Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 gally's teachers pet and he tends to hog the free kicks and corners, almost as if the other players don't let him have his way he'll snitch to pearson!

FoxTrott Posted 4 January 2012 Author Posted 4 January 2012 I thought Gallys set pieces against pompey were actually very good. Don't get me wrong, he can whip in a brilliant cross, particularly from free kicks but v. inconsistent. In terms of corners, I really struggle to think of many times Gally has impressed with a dangerous ball.

The problem is no one gambles and gets on the end of them...
DarkTranquillity Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I thought Gally's free kicks on New Years Eve were brilliant, and very consistent. They were hit low and with pace. We were unlucky with a couple and scored from 1, and it seemed like players were more inclined to attack the ball.
LCFC BEAST Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Gally's corners are always floated in to get Mills and Bamba, 2 of the best headers in the championship, a go at attacking it. Obviously it hasn't worked where as the whipped ball in has.
Fox92 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I thought Gally's free kicks on New Years Eve were brilliant, and very consistent. They were hit low and with pace. But he does exactly the same thing everytime. I know where he is going to put it, never mind the goalkeeper. And his corners are rubbish as well, they hardly beat the first man at times. I have seen Danns take a few set pieces this season, and he seems decent at them. Our second goal at Palace came through the pace of the ball in my opinion.
oadby_fox723 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 It would be nice to mix it up at times, if both are on the pitch, so it isn't predictable for the opposition. I'm sure Pearson works on set pieces.
Narborough_fox Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Gally's set pieces are brilliant, free-kicks are very hit and miss though. He seems to cross from a dead ball situation so well and then in open play he can't beat the first man. It's so frustrating to watch Gallagher play sometimes but you know he can create a bit of magic. Not so sure about Danns as I wasn't there on Monday but his delivery from the free-kick looked good even if t did get a flick and the curve he got on the ball for the goal was sublime. Just hope Pearson continues to pick him over Wellens.
NewburyFox Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Gally's free kicks are very reliable and consistent, and just because we scored from a Danns free kick doesn't mean he should be taking them from now on. Not sure about corners though, he's obviously been told to float them in but nothing has come from then. This isn't Gally's fault, but they need to be a lot more varied.
Corky Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 We are brilliant from set-pieces. That's what the TV says.

Gally 4 Johnaldinho and Col City fan xx
marbelladave Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Gallagher and Danns really should be contesting the same position, the attacking player of a midfield 3. Neither are great defensively and although Gallagher does more in that area than many seem to think they both need the security of two (holding) players behind them. With King to do the 'bits and pieces' he needs to be partnered by a more dynamic, physical player, preferably one of international quality with a decent stint at a top Premiership side behind him....... But then maybe not.......
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Gally 4 Johnaldinho and Col City fan xx I've reached the conclusion you're a wum.. Ignore list methinks
cc_star Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Whip them in, floated balls are no good unless you've got Crouch in your team Gally's freekicks in front of goal are fine, hid corners are generally weak Danns free kick which Bamba scored from was way out near the sideline, like a corner really... Perhaps Danns should just take them unless they're in front of goal in which case they can sort it out between themselves
samlcfc1 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I was hoping for some sort of pizza delivery service
seenitall Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I've reached the conclusion you're a wum.. Ignore list methinks Well, Gally is distinctly average and doesn't deserve any of the smoke on here blown up his arse - sorry if that winds you up, but would it hurt to admit Danns had a good game in his first start in position for us, when we won!!!
Stevosevic Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I thought Gallys set pieces against pompey were actually very good. His crosses from free kicks were, but his corners were awful. Whip in corners, don't float them.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 For the first time in a long while we looked like scoring from every set piece, that was due to Danns' delivery. Gallaghers is the most overrated ever. What really annoys me is when Bamba leans on other players to gain height and gives away fouls.
