MPH Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I think Nigel clearly has a problem now. A Nice Problem. I just wondered what people thought..... Would it be fair for Nigel To drop Wellens For Danny Drinkwater? Lets be fair, Wellens has played well last couple of games but DD looked a gem when he came on.... Who should start in the game against Swindon?
The Doctor Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 He has played well the last couple of games but has overall been quite poor, while Drinkwater's played quite well for Barnsley this season. Give him a chance v Swindon, if Wellens can't train 5 days a week, then he'd probably benefit from not playing every match as well. edit: Or he's cup-tied, so bring Drinkwater in for Middlesbrough instead.
FoxesRoyal Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Drinkwater Is Cup Tied So Won't Be Able To Play!
thybluefox Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Give him a chance v Swindon, if Wellens can't train 5 days a week, then he'd probably benefit from not playing every match as well. Can't argue with this tbh. IMO we should be starting the same team again for Boro though. Edit: cup tied, balls.
Skippy Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 To me Drinkwater looked a lot more competent today than Wellens did ...and that's with people saying this was one of wellen's better performances so Drinky gets my vote.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Why can't he play them both in future games, after the Cup match?
Jbrightmore Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Could play both, hate to say it but danns had a shocker last night.
Fox92 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Play them both! Wellens started fairly slow yesterday, but once Drinkwater came on (a quality midfielder who plays the same as Wellens), Wellens game improved. He picked up the ball on several occasions, drove and won a free kick or created a chance where Beckford nearly scored. Wellens has been missing a Drinkwater player. They both play the same way, on the floor, and I think, as long as we get the ball on the ground a bit more, our midfield will suite Wellens and Drinkwater together.
Bettsj2 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 If you play well you should keep your place regardless of who you are. Wellens was fantastic.
Babylon Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Why can't he play them both in future games, after the Cup match? You haven't got the hang of these slate Wellens / sell Wellens / blame it all on Wellens / he played well but can we still drop Wellens threads.
TheOnlyWayIsSchlupp! Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I think if anyone should be dropped it needs to be Danns, yes he is playing alright and his passing is good but he does give the ball away... Play Wellens and Drinkwater together!!
cc_star Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Wellens & Danns were great vs Forest Wellens was great vs S'ton Danns was OK Think if Gally is injured we'd have to play all 3 Dyer Wellens Danns Drinkwater Worked really well 2ndhalf. However if we're going to carry on playing with movement & desire to receive the ball then Wellens runs the show & his place in the team is safe IMO, it's Danns who's not to get sloppy & keep looking over his shoulder. But if the movement & desire stops then Wellens is wasted & don't think it will matter who plays
jonlcfc1990 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 It gives us options! this is what we want and some good options look at last night Gally goes off and DD just slotted in perfectly offered some really good link up play with wellens and Nuge and 2-0 result looking forward to seeing more of DD
Bloomer Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Bit too early to tell yet for me. Agreed, came on in a match where we were 0-2 and did simple things really well, bodes well but I need to see a little more of him.
Storming Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Thought Danns was ok but to many passes that are to short but he also made a few crunching well timed tackles that were top drawer .Just needs to practice his hitting pace its normaly the right ball but just under hit
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Bit too early to tell yet for me. Agreed.....
Corky Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Drinkwater looks like a player who could fit in with the other midfielders in different ways (Wellens, Danns and King). If he's cup-tied then Wellens and Danns will start, and we'll see how it works out on Saturday.
MPH Posted 24 January 2012 Author Posted 24 January 2012 I didnt know he was suspended but the point still remains.. would it of been FAIR to drop Wellens for drinkwater?
Babylon Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I didnt know he was suspended but the point still remains.. would it of been FAIR to drop Wellens for drinkwater? Beating rivals Forest at home 4-0. Beating Saints away 2-0, at a ground we never win at and a ground they rarely lose at. Comprehensively outplaying both teams. Arguably the only two full 90 minute performances of the season. Definitely the first two good performaces back to back this season. No it wouldn't be fair to drop Wellens for a player who (whilst he did well) has only played about 55 minutes of football for us.
Tielemans63 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I'd drop Danns and have Wellens sitting back and DD pushing forward. I thought Wellens kept the ball better than Dannsy against Saints.
Simmo86 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I'd drop Danns and have Wellens sitting back and DD pushing forward. I thought Wellens kept the ball better than Dannsy against Saints. Wellens is always going to keep the ball better than Danns, Wellens is more of a touch player and Dannsy more of a worker. But neither deserve to be dropped imo, both have been fantastic in the past 2 games bar 15-20 iffy spells. DD is going to have to wait for his chance in centre mid because Wellena and Danns will start on Saturday and if they perform again will be the same 2 for the Boro game.
muzzy1981 Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Said yes but both deserve to be dropped if they're not performing, healthy competition though!
