Wellens or Drinkwater in midfield.

The midfield situation

  1. 1. Would it be fair to drop Wellens for Drinkwater

Drinkwater was solid as a rock for the time he spent on last night he tracked back and even swapped sides to spice it up on a cpl of ocassions. I have always been a Wellens fan because he has a work ethic unlike some of the others since NP has been back.

The vast improvement since the Palace game has been evident --- Work hard Win well----

NP barked the team to a win against Palace and was knackered at the final whistle, last night the whole team put in a performance worthy of getting back into the promation push.

One of the only times he got the pointy finger out was to get Nuge to calm down before he got a second yellow(subd 5 mins later)

Who would have thought Beckford and SSL (cup game apart) would start last night after the attitude they have shown since NP returned-- goes to show---

Give the player the nurture and a path to follow they can sort out or if the choose the wrong path ship out both these two will learn the NP way or follow Yuke and others out the door.

Danns ran and ran last night and had the mistake cost a goal would be swimming in the Sea on the south coast still-- He got away with it a saved a goal bound blast with a brave block to make up for it.

Happy days and whoever plays lets hope they give 100% the NP way forward.

You haven't got the hang of these slate Wellens / sell Wellens / blame it all on Wellens / he played well but can we still drop Wellens threads.

I clearly haven't ! For what it's worth, I can't understand the level of abuse Wellens gets.

I'd stick with Danns and Wellens for the time being until one of those players are out of form, injured or suspended.

Then Drinkwater will come into the midfield and it is certain that he will keep his place in that area if he plays well.

Give Wellens a break lads Jeeze! he's struggled for form this season but thought he has improved tremendously the last two games. Yes a few stray passes which is frustrating, but we know he can produce and I have every bit of confidence Nige will get the best out of him again. We've looked very tenacious in midfield of late, which is refreshing to see and he does hold and carry the ball well. Stick with Wellens and Danns for now with drinkwater as a sub for options

He's this seasons scapegoat.

It's his fault that you don't understand.

I'm right up there with anyone on these boards in wanting Richie Wellens to have nothing to do with this football club for the past year. But, Forest x2 and last night he has been one of our better players, so keep everything the same and see if he can continue. If he slacks again and plays poorly, bring in the new boy.

Both, lets just keep King out of the side - it's no suprise that since King has been injured our workrate and effectiveness has increased beyond recognition. King is trading on past glory and hasnt been effective for us in over a year now.

Its no surprise that when Wellans starts playing well, the whole team starts to click. His performances in the last couple of games have started to get back to the Wellans of old, he is the fulcrum from which we are starting to attack and he appears to be getting his mojo back!!

Drinkwater (is it me or does he remind you of a young David Beckham?) - looks the business based on 60 minutes of action last night. Always probing and never giving the ball away - you can tell he has been schooled well. Early signs of a very promising signing.

Play them both - Danns will miss out when the next league game comes around. He is doing OK, but not really offering a great deal of anything! (and shocking at defending set piece situations!)

Richie gets stick as he takes ****ing responsibility and is involved all game whereas friggin Andy King ghosts around the pitch thinking the football world revolves around him. King has to realise he needs to adapt his game to suit the other 10 players on the pitch and not that they need to adapt their style of play to suit him. I'm sorry but King is not the player that fans witnessed when we were in league 1.

Wellens was playing so badly it was like playing with ten men .... He's doing ok now again and we're playing with 11 and winning .... no surprise there.

Where's the "Play them both and drop Gallagher" option for crying out loud?

for Man Utd and also on loan at Barnsley he was played in the central midfield role so it would be natural to assume he was signed to play down the middle. Gally plays in the RM position, of course... He only came on the other night in the wing position because of Injury and our lack of wide players.

I'm starting to think that the main midfield 'weak link' so to speak, has actually been Andy King.

He's so physically weak IMO that he's not been able to support Wellens sufficiently.

This has not given Richie the time to 'create' openings for the strikers.

With Danns in the centre, he's so much more mobile and tenacious in the tackle that Wellens is now more supported defensively and can begin to look more at attacking play.

I'd personally stick with Danns and Wellens currently, with Drinky as back up.

Andy King, even when fit, would not currently get a look in for me at present.

I'm surprised that your'e only just starting to think that Col.........some of us have been thinking it all season !!!

FFS, our poor season has not been down to Andy King, we played well and won with him in the side too, (Palace and Blackpool) the reason why we have been playing well in the last 2 games is not down to a change in personnel, maybe Danns gives a bit more energy than King, or SSL is a bit more conservative than Bamba, it has been down to a change in attitude, throughout the whole team, to single out individuals just because they happen to not have played when we turned the corner (if we have done) is just nonsense.

As for Wellens and Drinkwater, of course they can both play together in the middle, but he, like everyone else will have to earn his place, a real shame he is cup tied because another run out at right mid might show that he can slot in as Gally's replacement against Boro, as it is we will have to wait and see.

Why do you always jump to conclusions about everything?

I don't think anyone is saying that the our poor season has been down to King.

It's been down to many factors, and many players have under performed.

The post I made was that I feel king is physically weak and that I think this has impacted on Wellens game. I'm not saying wellens himself hasnt been poor, just that King hasn't helped IMO and we now look more defensively solid with Danns running about and getting his foot in.

The point you made was obvious, and didn't need making because no one was laying all the blame for the teams poor performances at the feet of King?

It wasn't directly aimed at you more as response to wherethefoxhat's comment after yours, and plenty of people have said that our turn in form has come about because King isn't playing and some are actually glad he is injured.
