Happy Fox Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=104&fid=297&sty=2&act=1&mid=2115246171 Saw this from a Burnley forum but it is applicable to us You start with a (simple?) playing strategy; see what the players you chose fit into that plan and hope to goodness that every player has the same sense of purpose and belief. By the way, you also have no choice but to pay them lower wages but with good win bonuses and top two bonuses. Your team is probably a mix of older, hardened, pros (with a chip on their shoulder and out to prove something?) and younger players all with varying degrees of skill levels but who do the job you set them without fail, week in, week out. Hard men in the back; mobile men in the midfield; quick thinking men in attack who can run all day and understand each other’s play. Then you need an X factor from someone or a couple of someones. A mobile forward-thinking full back with a cannon of a shot? A midfielder who can bag 20 goals a season? Long throw specialists with tall forwards? Free kick/corner specialists who will guarantee 15 goals in a season? The main thing is not to let your players become involved in strategies that are beyond their capabilities to perform and to ensure that what they do, they all do very well. Keep it simple, direct and consistent with that little X factor along the way.
Libertine Dream Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Win more games than everybody else, gain more points than everybody else = Promotion Simple as that
Kitchandro Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 And why were you reading a Burnley forum? I think he was looking for the famous 'soapy tit wank' thread. I can't find it either.
L4EV Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Step One: Keep Quality players (Kasper, Nugent etc.) Step Two: Replace shit players with more quality players Step Three: Done!
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 We need a team that will give 100% and I'm confident Pearson will assemble one ready for next season. We need a team like Southampton who all work for each other and then they have a few class players such as Lallana, Cork and Lambert who can change a game. They all gel together well as they haven't really spent in the summer, remind me of what Norwich did last season and I pray to god we do something like this next season.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 I think everything the OP says makes sense, but is probably easier said than done.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Don't lose to Bristol City twice. Don't let Darius Henderson score a hattrick at your place. Don't hit the woodwork more times than everyone else put together. Don't get more players sent off than the rest of the league put together. Don't spend money on shit players. Don't sack your manager after 13 games.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 F**kin 'ell, why did we give Sven hundreds of thousands of pounds when we could have just appointed some bloke off a Burnley forum?
kingfox Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Clear out, keep the good players, get rid of the manager and stop buying young players, who can't cut it in this league. So far Drinkwater has looked good, but not special, he has had some terrible loan spells before Barnsley especially at Watford. He ain't all that, so don't be shocked if he has off games. Marshall aswell so far has been very poor, he is exactly like Gallagher. Keep Schmeichel, St Ledger, Morgan, Konchesky, Drinkwater, Dyer, Nugent, Beckford. Sell the rest

Legend_in_blue Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 As poor as last night's result was, had we won those two early home games against Bristol and Reading, we wouldn't be too far off the top 6. To achieve promotion next time round we need to score the points early on in the season. Hopefully with only a handful of new additions for our next season this should be more doable based on the fact that the players shouldn't give us the gelling in excuse.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Aye, that's a good point actually. Would be nice, for the first time in a few years, to not be playing catch up. Not be "win this and we're close to the play offs if everyone else slips up", rather "win this and we'll stay in the top 2".
