Guest ttfn Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Just got back. Extremely disappointed with our performance in the first half an hour, when we gave ourselves an insurmountable obstacle to overcome with our poor defending. Mata ran riot in the space between our midfield 2 and the centre-backs, and we did well to get in to the break at 2-0. Second half was a different story - we battled for every ball and looked really dangerous on the counter-attack, although still fairly incompetent at the back! Another real disappointment was to lose 2 goals from corners. Set-pieces should be a leveller in cup football and we threw away this benefit with slack marking. What's more we repeatedly failed to beat the first man with our own corners. All-in-all it's a strange one. We were quite good second half but I am very disappointed with some aspects of our game today. Chelsea have some excellent players, but our slack defending made them look even better than they are.
Unabomber Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Espn didn't mention us after the game, or interview any of our players or manager. Wtf was that about, yeah well done Torres but fukinghell he finally scored a few goals he didn't cure aids.
Webbo Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 This is just a reminder of the gulf in class between a top PL side and mid table championship. 5-2 flattered us a bit, Chelsea could easily have been 5-0 up at half time. At least we gave it a go although I think I would have preferred a boring 0-0 and bring them back here, at least the money would have helped the balance sheet.

I really thought a 3-goal margin flattered them to be honest. Sure, if they'd taken ALL of their chances they would have scored 5 by half-time, but Danns missed a good chance and Beckford had an opening he could have done better with too.
clare Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Observations: Our defence needs an enormous amount of work. Our fans are absolutely superb on form, the close up of our fans' scarf twirling sent shivers. Danns will be huge for us next season. Beckford can score against anyone with a bit of confidence. Marshall has a foot like a traction engine. Liverpool must have laughed like fvck when Chelsea handed over a £50m cheque for Torres. Agree with every point you've made there. No1 priority for NP must be to sort the defence out, but I have every confidence that he will.
MarkHowieLCFC Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Entertaining game...could of been a basketball score line in the end...least the ref was decent for a change
lcfcoadbyfox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I'm not too disheartened even though we were outclassed we gave it a right go which made for a very entertaining game & we scored 2 goals including the goal of the game.
inckley fox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Can't believe some of the negative comments in here. I was proud to be Leicester after the game. We got beat, beat well but Chelsea are one of the elite of Europe and they were at the top of their game. They just beat Napoli 4:1 in the champions league. we are mid-table championship. I think the players should be happy with themselves. Not sure how anyone critisizes the defenders who played well but were beaten on occasion by tremendous pace and consummate skill. This was not the Chelsea of 3 weeks ago this was a great Chelsea perfomance. That was Torres against us, not Simon church. And again the fans - WE ARE SPECIAL! Yes, but the fact is that these are the same players who conceded to Simon Church, repeating exactly the same errors. These aren't one-offs. We've done this again and again all season long. Pearson rightly said we were 'very poor' in defence. Once more we fail to come out of the blocks at the start of a game, once again a player (Bamba) loses all positional discipline and the defence looks miserably out of shape. Just because we did it at Chelsea this time, and thus conceded five instead of three, doesn't mean we should just pretend we weren't poor in many areas today. Oddly I saw lots of promise in midfield. Wellens improved, Dyer and especially Danns were decent, Marshall banged in a great goal. The less said about Nugent, all four starting defenders and Schmeichel the better. Don't be fooled, Chelsea could score whenever they wanted. If they'd wanted ten, they'd have got ten. If we play like that next week, we'll lose and lose comfortably.
blueharmie Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 In a weird way I'm glad kasper played average to poor. Don't sign the lad up I hope people were sayin but us lcfc fans know how good he is. Bit annoyed shipping 5 goals in but Chelsea are a prem league team and there talent was far superior to ours. Good effort though from both players and fans esp in second half.

Very sensible post on based upon reality, which is refreshing. Glass half full or half empty?... Neither... You're just telling the truth.
Guest ttfn Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 For all those saying Torres was poor... ...Sorry but I can't see where you're coming from. Sure, he seemed to be comically unconfident in front of goal (2 very lucky goals aside - the first he scuffed and I'm 90% sure he wasn't even shooting with his header from the corner) but he worked his socks off, made some absolutely brilliant runs and completely dominated Wes Morgan. In addition to scoring twice, he also set up 2 more. I'd go so far as to say he might have been man-of-the-match.

ian the fox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I thought the midfield again left the back 4 exposed too much , wellens outpaced completely . Gallagher pathetic

Rincewind Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Watched it in the Slug. Thought the result looked a lot worse on paper than actually watching it. If I had just listened to it on RL I may have different views. It was a good game. hardly noticed the ref and both teams played entertaining football. Of course a Premier team should have more experience in defence than we did. That is one part of our game that may need tightning up. The game could have ended 5-4 or 7-4. Never stopped for after match analysis so don't know if Pearson made any comment. He may have made them all to RL then went to console the team. Just hope there are not too many similar results when they do eventually go up which I am sure they will do within the next couple of year depending if they still have the backing of owners and a good manager be it Pearson or A Nother that continues to build the team able to compete in the top flight.
ibbosuk Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Went how it was always going to go, with us being outclassed. But we could of been playing Bristol or Reading and conceded the same type of goals. All we have ever been since Pearson came back is a mid table Championship side with no improvement what so ever, so he does not deserve to be in charge next season. This very disappointing season is over, with Pearson not being good enough IMO. Give Billy Davies Or Mick McCarthy a go!!!!!!!!!
Aoife Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Actually felt sorry for Kasper today. Yes it was by no means his best game but he really was left exposed by the defence on numerous occasions.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Good and enjoyable day out. Shame that it was a three goal defeat as that wasn't deserved and we could have made it four three at the end. We were just outplayed. What was so.evident was the difference in how quick they think compares to us. We wanted time on the ball before passing whilst they knew a lot where their options were as soon as thy got the ball. Having said that i am very annoyed we conceded from a corner. This basic defending still hasn't been sorted and we should defend most with the players we have. We always battled well and danns was superb. All Tue players put in a shift which was good to see. Well all except Gallagher who was so abysmal it was embarrassing. Corners were even worse then the usual shite and generally offered little and deserved to go off. Marshalls goal was brilliant and i hope he can keep up that form. He put in some great crosses too and wish he had been on since the start. All in all not too disappointed and really glad i went just a shame we couldn't have made the score line a bit more respectable.
cairnsy Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I think our problem with defence is not from the actual back 4/5 - i think the problem lies with the midfield leaving us so exposed, we have a very attacking midfield 4 and not a single defensive minded player who i think could make all the difference.
WardyisPukka Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 sitting in the chelsea end was like being a library!! shocking atmosphere!! I thought we gave it go which is all you can do against a top 6 club!! (dont consider chelsea top 4) Danns had a really good game!! defence was poor but that was due to a high line and morgan &bamba dont have the pace for that Fans were amazing!! just shows you what type of club chelsea - when torres scored ppl round me didn't even bother clapping or getting up -just full of part time fans on their phones and saw even one guy with beats headphones on - wtf!! proud to be lcfc fan based in london!!
crisp packet Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Was always going to happen. We could play them ten times they would beat us 8! . We was comfortable in possession , but so prone to the counter attack , all be it chealsea, reading or Bristol city. One thing for me that stood out about our team is that we have two midfielders that hide during games , play hollywood passes( although great when they come off ?!? , not often enough nowadays ... We need a holding midfielder who can actuly move to protect its back four that is box to box who wants the ball all the time ? A wide player who has a trick , bit of pace wants to beat a player and works back ? You know who they are ? I know who they are.... Today Pearson saw who they was and substituted them ...... Time for a change at Blackpool , hope Marshall and drinkwater are given a chance to lay some foundations at our football club. TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!

Salieri Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Ah well, we had a go at least. Defence very poor, even Kasper had an off day. Midfield did their best, Danns was excellent and Marshall made a difference when he came on. Superb goal and will hopefully give the lad some confidence to cement his place in the side. Nuge and Beckford did okay, Becks took his goal well. At the beginning of the game I was wondering whether it would have been better to have started with SSL and Morgan in the middle (Pelts at RB) and Bamba in a defensive midfield role. Would it have made a difference? Probably not as Chelsea were simply too good for us. Not too downhearted overall, still think we have the makings of a side good enough to get us out of this league, if only they could find a bit of consistency. On to Wednesday and yet another 'must win' at Blackpool...
