Unabomber Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Great game, thought we attacked really well even if the formation seemed a bit all over the place. Defensively we were poor, and at the same time playing a side with the likes of Sturridge, Mata, Torres, Malouda so all in all not dissapointed. Fantastic goal by Marshall too, which should give him a lot of confidence.
Haydos Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Hard to be too critical of the defence, better players than St Ledger, Morgan and Bamba have struggled with Mata, Torres and Sturridge. Definitely missed a defensive midfielder in the first half, perhaps we should have started with Bamba sitting infront of Morgan and St Ledger. No it's not, they didn't struggle against them, they gifted things to them through bad decision making and being caught out of position. They didn't have to work for any of their goals.

LCFCCHRIS Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Marshalls goal was PL standard. Our defence Was very poor. Danns played well. Schmichael: 5.5 not his best form Koncheskey 6.5 average, Bamba: 6 at least he could dribble round some Chelsea Players Morgan:5.5 poor for me St ledger: 4.5 very poor Danns: 8 our best player Gallagher; 6 corners were bad. Didn't play for long Wellens: 6 Peltier: 5.5 some bad touches Marshall : 8 just for that goal Nugent: 6.5 Beckford: 6
norwegianfox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Entertaining game. Our defence and particularly both full backs had shocking games. Great goal by Marshall and a solid display by Danns. To get this far in the Cup was a bonus to me so not that dissapointed by the final result. The fans were singing their hearts out with scarves waiving as could be seen on the TV.
FrankieADZ Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Some shoddy defending at times but I thought we didnt disgrace ourselves. Danns had a very good match. Overall, very proud of the lads & the supporters. Just hope there heads dont go down after this. after yesterday everything is into perspective for me.
HoustonFox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Gifted them all their goals with poor keeping or defending Our whole back line played like 7 year olds running up the pitch & playing on the edge of their box the whole game, very amateur First half, Nugent & Beckford were hiding, not making hardly any runs, happy to be marked out the game, shirking their responsibility and not be open to the pass Midfield was the only bright spot of the first half, with Dyer looking dangerous, and Wellens & especially Danns looking good. Second half, again we gifted them a goal with woeful defending, with Konch & Bamba allowing people to run through unchallenged and wide open (happened the whole game & made even Torres look good) After that & especially with Pearson's subs we went toe to toe with them with Ivanovic proving a rock Danns was boss & again Wellens was good but our defence undid all the good work again Kasper was poor for both corner goal and collectively SSL, Bamba & Konch were absolutely dire, Morgan only marginally better... what chance have you got if you gift a quality team 5! goals almost frustrating because we could have had 4 ourselves Oh well, they are Champions League & we're an inconsistant Championship side Normally agree with you but with one defender going completely AWOL and Konch being told to push on it was only going to go one way.
cc_star Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Even when he doesn't score, Torres is a cracking player. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.. I know, but with regards to today he was in 50 yards of space thanks to our back 4, never even had to work for it.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Even when he doesn't score, Torres is a cracking player. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.. I would suspect that Torres is one of those players (like Bergkamp for example), where you have to see them live to appreciate their quality. To be able to see all their off the ball runs etc...
Guesty Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Whilst the defence was poor today, it again showed we are in urgent need of a defensive mid which would help them out massively. Especially since we have wingers that can't take on a man and cross consistently. It means we expect our full backs to provide support and defend at the same time without any cover. I don't think we're all that far away from a good team though, just a mid and 2 consistent wingers.
Haydos Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Which is why they are playing for a average championship team. Ok...so you're perfectly happy with every performance because you accept the level the players are? My point is that Chelsea weren't anything better than clinical today. They didn't boss possession, they were poor at the back. All they did was make the most of overlaps which we had a choice whether to give them or not. This wasn't about ability, it was about not following Pearson's instructions or Pearson giving them the wrong gameplan.
Daggers Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 A great effort all round, some handled it better than others. Delighted with Pearson for deciding to take the game to them rather than use a Megson-style negative kick and crowd in an attempt to get a draw or nick a win. Two goals, could have been three, and by far the best supporters in the ground. Did ourselves credit today.
The Doctor Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I thought we played fairly well, some lax defending gifting them their goals, but Danns absolutely dominated the midfield and we didn't exactly fail to make our chances. Can't help but wonder what would have happened if Marshall came on for Gallagher, or started - scored an absolute corker, and created havoc in their box soon after through sheer grit and determination. I say this far too frequently, but if we play like that on a consistent basis, we'll tear most teams in this division to shreds.
PegguyArphexad Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Entertaining match!!! Good attacking performance against a really good side. Defensively we were a little poor but we went at them so left ourselves exposed. I would rather that than go down to an uninspiring 2-0 defeat with no adventure at all. Fans sounded great. All in all I think it was another encouraging day in the development of Leicester under Pearson. Bring on Blackpool!
FrankieADZ Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I know, but with regards to today he was in 50 yards of space thanks to our back 4, never even had to work for it. i'd have to agree, Torres is a top striker, can see why he hasnt scored in 25 games b4 today...with the greedy sods he has to play with in the team
L4EV Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 You were simply outplayed by the better team. All over the place defensively but quite impressive at times going forward. Good to see both Torres and Beckford score. Bamba had a mare which means on here he's shit until his next good game. Kasper had his worst game in what's been a good season for him, needs to be more commanding, then he will be a top keeper.

We gambled by pouring men forward to create numerical advantages in order to be able to keep the ball up in their half, but we lost it time and again by making poor passes or getting caught out (credit must also go to the Chelsea defense there). Once that happens we all know how dangerous they are in the counter-phase. They've practised this for years and years. It's very harsh to blame their goals on our defense solely, not to mention a bit naïve.

Im no Megson fan but remember beating Villa away under Megson in the Cup and we all left that night feeling that he'd got his tactics spot on. Fryatt nicking one in the 70th something minute was met with joy. And we were happy to have progressed to the next round... Fair play, Villa that night weren't as good a team as Chelsea, but we weren't expected to beat them. So no, Im not 'delighted' today.. We looked wide open.
Libertine Dream Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Just coming away from the ground: Fans were great Defence useless Danns class Some excellent forrays forward Kasper appeared a mess, definitely an off day Chelsea seem rejuvenated. Spoken to some Chelsea fans on the way out who were very complimentary towards, they liked that we went there, played football and had a go. Seems very much like Man City away last year, got the same feel, that day Dyer had a beast if a game we werent great in defence, had a go at them and it should have been 5-2 that day had Tevez scored his penalty.

The Guvnor Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Disappointing scoreline but more spirited performance in the second half, Danns and Konch showed their quality again. Fantastic support from the faithful
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Outclassed. Even Konchesky who is our best defender was murdered today. Nige has a massive job ahead of him. The 2 goals should not disguise the fact. Champions League club or not that score flattered us.

This Sadly i predicted we would have 5 stuffed past us and the only thing i got wrong is that i thought Torres would score 3 of them nout just 2 Mills back in the side anyone?

I wasn't there mate so I can't really judge. But it does sound like we were done for pace? Morgan's Achilles heel?
