If I supported Coventry I'd ask to be banned from games as well

Badum tish!

CAn we have a badum tish emote please? We really need one.

Well then. Put my hands in cuffs and charge me what? An infinite number accounts of offensive language and abuse?

What a fvcking joke.

Not always true of course.

A one off and not one guy on a terrace.

They also had a pub land lord backing them so they had done fvck all.

That don't really apply to what we are talking about.

well, he represented himself..

But what an absolutel joke. Are the police really going to fine everyone who swears at a football game?

I would expect to see them running onto the pitch to fine some of the players in that case...

Agree completely. Were I in his boots I would have put together a selection of clips of players swearing and acting 'inappropriately'. Very strange that no-one has yet pointed out that if this behaviour isn't part of supporting a club then it can't be part of playing for one either (something which, it goes without saying, is totally impossible to enforce and would, one hopes, put the nonsense of treating football games like a night at the opera to bed once and for all).

The problem with the police is that, rather than dealing with that EDF march down the road they'd much prefer to find a way to stop footballers swearing / scuffling.

The real reason for this, I'd imagine, is the minister (can't remember his name) who recently used incidences of racism in a football crowd as an excuse to say 'it's about time we had a debate about what constitutes appropriate behaviour in a football stadium. If you can't do this in a High Street you shouldn't be able to do it at a football ground'. That may not be a precise quote, but it was a good old example of politicians being disturbed by people getting together and enjoying themselves, and simultaneously undermined the campaign to drive racism out of football by placing it on a par with people being 'a tad uncouth'.

I imagine this sort of rubbish is going to get us into serious trouble when we have to host international / European games and it becomes obvious that no other nation in the footballing world - or at least none of its leading forces - is so crushingly dismissive of its fans.

No surprise, I read this article about stockport a wjhile ago:-

Lord Snape? lol

I could have been thrown out of half the games I've been to by this logic. The story doesn't surprise me one bit though.

It's not just MPs and coppers who have it in for football fans, some managers demonise us too. Kenny Dalglish will openly defend one of his players for being a racist but will complain about non-discriminitory stick that they recieve from the crowd. 'Controlling players? I think it's time the authroities started controlling crowds.' No Kenny, it's about time someone gagged you.

Commentators are the same. They often talk about us as if we aren't real people. We are often judged but players are always spoken about as human beings even when they're in the wrong. Players get in a scuffle/breaks someone's leg: 'he's not that kind of player, but he's made a mistake there'. Fans get in a scuffle/get started on by stewards for no reason 'they aren't real football fans, they're moronic animals looking for a fight'. It hardly helps when the media portrays us in this way.

We will always be stereotyped and picked on, can't do anything about it.

I got ejected from Stamford Bridge on Sunday for standing up. No violence, bad language or trouble incurred - just persistently standing.

Absolute joke.

Had to watch the rest of the game from a pub in Fulham!

You're joking? I couldn't see anyone in our stand sitting down!

Aye exactly - ejected me before half-time as well. They reckoned that some people in the VIP box couldnt see, but after I left a couple of friends asked around and nobody (even the people in the box) were complaining about the standing.

And yeah as you say, there was another 5,999 blue army on their feet - and rightly so

The authorities won't stop until the place is like Welford Road.

And they wonder why attendences are dropping?

Don't get me wrong the main reason for that is cost of going to games and people not being able to afford it, but reason that are not far behind are lack of respect, overzealous policing and stewarding, certain people (*coughinadequatereferees*) spoling the games, e.t.c, I am losing the love for football, no doubt it'll be a few years before I stop going but I have to consider my attendance to games in the future, I know for one reason or another (Mainly down to poor performance and expectations for our team failing to be fulfilled) I havn't been to as many matches as I have in past seasons.

Football crowds are getting closer and closer to rugby. At least at Welford Road, you can stand in the Crumbie. Don't get me wrong, he's a twat for constantly swearing after he's been warned and that "W@nker" jesture and the Vs are far from what makes being a football crowds great. However, I've done it to cocky, irritating home and away fans and never felt I was doing anything wrong. All he needed was a stern, 2nd warning or an ultimatium, if that.

Still at least the fine will deter him from suffering Coventry games for a while

Jeez, it's all so black and white, isn't it?

I think the key thing is, he admitted the offence.

I note he chose to represent himself; now, this guy may have done, and chosen to take his chances on sentencing by himself, but I would always advise any fan arrested to take advantage of the free and independent legal advice on offer before saying anything to the police.

Why on earth did he plead guilty, he'd never have been convicted of that after trial (with representation).

Absolutely ridiculous, Coventry fan or not.

We were witnesses for a guy who was arrested and charged with public order offences. All he did was celebrate an equaliser! Needless to say, with representation, and me and the OH explaining it as it was, the magistrates saw fit to find him "not guilty".

On a similar note, I'd also advise never accept a caution or fixed penalty ticket without taking advice.

Does anyone have the definitive list of 'naughty' words ?

Can we swear in another language ?

Knowing football authorities they'd pay for translators so they could throw 'em out.
