Beckford yes or no

For what we paid Beckford is over rated but he has been much improved since Nigel came here, his under performing is what helped get Sven the sack since he made it obvious that Beckford was his Iceman and the last piece in the jigsaw.

Whether he stays or goes is if Nigel thinks he can get a seasons worth of goals from him for the wages spent or if we would be better off getting another striker in.

The safe option would be to stick with him and then blame him for under performing again if things go wrong up front or if things go well having got the best from him which both Sven and Moyes have failed to do.

I like how you say league goals. He's not far behind Nugent on total goals this season. If it wasn't for beckford we'd be worse off this season than we are. Fact number 1.

You've never liked Beckford and the way you write your posts about him is very conniving. Fact number 2.

It's people like you that drive the talented players away. Moan at the slightest little things.

Beckford has finished the season much better than Nugent, so why don't you berate him?

Or is your head still stuck up your own arse?

It's just same old scapegoating but Beckford this time.

Yakubu was shit because he didn't run, just scored goals but this time Beckford is shit too?

When you say well Beckfords scored 15 goals this season and everyone loves Nugent and he's scored 16 "well more league goals" DOES IT MATTER?!

KEEP BECKFORD

Beckford Today: Leeds Salute, Kissed Leeds Badge,Acknowledge Fans 5+ times, watched 2nd half in LUTV studio, said he wont score v Leeds at ER

Thanks Bert ;)

He applauded the crowd just before he took the kick off.

Then gave a leeds salute in play then blew a kiss to the Kop. I was gutted he was taken off at half time, would have preferred him to be taken off during play so he could get a proper reception. He never kissed the badge though. Not sure if he said he wouldnt score against us though. I cant believe that for a second.

He played well today I thought and with a few better balls in the box he could've had a few.

I fully agree Bert. That is why I changed my player of the season from Nugent to Beckford. He is showing all the signs of re emerging quality.

I just wonder at times if he is too good for this club, lacking quality support. I suspect he would do better with a Premiership club again. Someone mentioned Sunderland, and I think he would thrive there under MON. Hope he stays though.

The guy has scored goals throughout his career but unless we change our style of play i.e have a target man to play up alongside Beckford/Nugent than the situation won't change, I think Beckford will be sacrificed for another striker.

Your not wrong. He couldnt play without Becchio at Leeds.

Beckford will get you goals but imo I don't think he's a Pearson player and I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't here come next season the only thing is who could afford him surely not anyone in the championship!?

I would have thought one of the teams coming down will be able to afford him. Unfortunately not us though.

Yeah, the reason he's failed to hit double figures in the league is because he's "too good".

Player of the season? Jesus wept.

Unless I'm mistaken, I thought that FFP will essentially mean we need to keep/sign players who represent 'value for money' at the club.

Neither Mills nor Beckford do IMO.. And would be the first ones id try to offload.

Sure, if you're paying big wages on a striker who has scored shit loads for us this season, all well and good, keep him.

But do people really think that Beckford represents such value for money?

I bloody don't!!

lol

Everyone's saying Beckford and Nugent are the best Strike force in the division. They aren't.

Sharp and lambert - Southampton - 46 goals

Vaz Te and cole - West Ham - 34 goals

McCormack and Snodgrass - Leeds - 31 goals

King and Burke - Birmingham - 28 goals

Austin and Rodriguez - Burnley - 31 goals

Henderson and Keogh - Millwall - 27 goals

Beckford and Nugent - Leicester - 24 goals between them

They are to similar. We need to play one of them up there with vassell or waghorn

You don't know anything about the value of our players. Nobody here does.

Look, it's quite simple, if he's viable to keep on and Pearson wants him then he'll stay, if not he'll go. And I wouldn't think it would be a particularly hard decision for him. He knows his wages and if he speaks to other clubs he'll know his value.

It's not like it's going to be a huge call either, everyone appears to be divided. Lets face it, he's not going to be irreplaceable should we decided to move him on and he's also a decent enough player should he stay. Bottom line is that I think it will be an easy decision for Pearson to make, we just have to wait and see what that is.

Careful Matt... Suggesting that 'facts' may be important will not give such a lucid argument as 'Beckford needs time to settle in and he'll be on fire for us next season'!!

lol

He might be, but I'd rather live the current reality than making ridiculous future predictions.

And only one of the teams is promoted (Southampton) from that list the rest Burnley, Milwall, Leeds are below us in the table okay Brum and West Ham are in the playoffs. But look at Reading (champions) not necessarily a potent striker force but they score goals throughout the team and have the mentality to win I think some of you are being a bit shortsighted their are many factors.

Those stats aren't really accurate because there's no guarantee all of those goals were scored together as a pairing. Also ...

Vaz Te had already scored 10 goals for Barnsley.

Sharp had already scored 10 goals for Donny.

Burke & Snodgrass play out wide So don't partner King & McCormack.

Waghorn don't make me laugh, he ain't good enough to lace up either Beckfords or Nugents boots, just another Pearson yes man

Beckford is a funny one for me, classic battle between heart and head.

My heart says I quite like him. He's got great pace and scores some great goals. He seems to have a good demeanor on the pitch and I think he's loyal and focused, if a little lazy at times.

But unfortunately my head says he's ineffective too often, he sometimes looks a bit Sunday League and, crucially, I think Schlupp is a better player than him. I don't mean potentially better, I mean better now. He's more creative, he keeps possession better and he's at least as deadly in front of goal.

I hope he stays, even if I can't technically justify why.

Reading's brilliant recent run coincided with the signing of Jason Roberts, a player who chips in fairly regularly, but more importantly than that can retain possession with his back to goal and bring others in to play.

You don't need prolific strikers to be successful but it helps.

When you're in trouble is when you play a guy up front who not only doesn't score regularly, but doesn't contribute when he doesn't score.

undecided

too many times this season it appeared nige was too scared to drop him in fear of him getting angry/upset/down and the team suffered from other people having to be moved around to accommodate this. If he linked up with nuge better i'd say yes, but nothing about the partnership instills me with confidence for next season. However, you still have to be able to sell him and replace him. maybe if we can get a better midfield that can provide better service to the front two we'll see a change. but it's all conjecture at this point.

I've often wondered about that, as well. I think Beckford is very high maintenance. I think Pearson has had to work much harder at keeping Beckford happy and interested than he would have liked, and I won't be in the least bit surprised to see the back of Beckford this summer.

To be honest, I really don't think NP will find it difficult in the slightest to replace a £30k (or thereabouts) a week striker who scores in so few league matches and can't control or hold up the ball. How often do we have a first choice player who gets subbed at half time as often as Beckford has this season?

I'd like to see us replace Beckford with one or two strikers who expect to be used more in rotation. The manager wouldn't then be forced to pick them every match regardless of their form. This would also mean we'd have an extra option to go with one striker, instead of two, with Marshall in the hole, as I think that's his best position. I think this could really help us away from home. Maybe we don't really need two strikers who expect to start every match.

Oh, and Dangerous Tiger, Beckford - player of the season? Very funny.

Out of interest, who would you prefer? Realistically.
