The biggest scapegoat we've ever had?

Got to be Kermo for me. I'm not saying he was decent or anything, just our entire failure to get promoted that season was blamed on him. Yes it was a shite penalty, but it was the entire teams effort in the first leg of the play offs that ruined our chances that season. Plus it was actually Waghorns penalty miss that put us out of it.

I definatly dont think i'll be booing him if we end up playing Charlton next season

We seem to have one or two every year since as far back as I remember.

The shite Wellens has received this year puts him right up there.

The treated dished out to Ricardo was a disgrace, he wasn't brilliant put people were making up problems and blaming him for things that weren't even his fault most of the time. Then Weale comes back in and fecks up more than Ricardo ever did.

Wellens hasn't really received it in the ground though.

You should sit near me, there is a group there who would like to hang him from the rafters.

Ricardo wasn't a scapegoat, he was a ****ing liability!

This! by far the worst goalie ive ever seen. how people can defend him is beyond me, he was absaloute fvckin shit!

David Kelly took an awful lot of shit while he was here. The other one I remember was Paul Reid, although he seemed to have written into his contract that he had to complete one woeful backpass every single time he played.

I'd agree that Kermo got criticised way too much for that. Waghorn missed his penalty, as well, but I think if we're going to blame any one person for failing to get past Cardiff in the playoffs that season, it should be Wayne Brown. I don't think we would have even needed a penalty shoot-out if only he wasn't such a massive racist.

Jimmy Willis - Had a nightmare start so the fans were on his back right from the word go and it just got worse. Eventually got dropped and sent out on loan. Superb when he came back. Ade Akinbiyi - Victim of his price tag and our expectations of him because of it.

Akinbadbuyi is definitely up there with the likes of Weale, Ricardo and most recently of all, Wellens! Also I remember Jimmy WIllis's torrid start under Brian Little very well. The crowd were bellowing out "get him off" and it must've affected the poor bloke! When he came back from his loan spell though he was a different player altogether, I remember seeing a pic. recently of him coming out to the Wembley crowd in the play off final versus the Sheepshaggers in 1994, some of the players like Mark Blake, Iwan and co. looked like a bag of nerves while Willis looked to have the confidence of ironman as the they all emerged from the tunnel! I thinkl WIllis was instrumental in us ripping off Derby that day and not surprisingly got man of the match. What goes around comes around I suppose! Sadly, that team wasn't equipped to compete in the Prem. until two years after our initial foray into the top tier, Willis included.

grayson took a lot of stick for a number of years, although it seemed to die down after that header at selhurst that took us to a cup final........

kermogant is the most recent standout for me, maybe if weale could save a penalty!!!! who knows.

this year i reckon nearly every player has had flack at some point.

and i can't be the 1st person to think of alan maybury........................ oh maybe he was just shocking.

I think some need to look up what the term scapegoat means.

Was thinking the same... Isn't the bulk of this thread 'the worst players we have had'?

lol

In terms of FT's scapegoating then surely 'fookin Wellens' wins by a country mile!!

lol

They defend him because people went over the top, just like you have.

There were two incidents I remember more than the rest. One being against Derby when he got slaughtered for punching the ball rather than catching it, when people seemed to ignore the fact that he would have gone out of his area if he's caught the blooming ball. The other being him having the ball blasted at him from about 3 yards out and people wondering why he couldn't keep it out.

We took more points and conceded less with him in goal for his 9 games than we did in Weales previous 9. And Weale then proceeded to make error after error when he went back in goal, but received nothing like the hounding Ricardo did. In fact he'd feck up and get his name chanted.

I remember that debate, it was f**king ridiculous. He was another of the players that Stringer and Young gave a bashing which seems to exacerbate things, especially when people haven't actually seen anything that happened and are basing their opinions on their commentary.

I liked Ricardo. I don't think his international baggage helped him with some of the less forgiving fans.

To be honest I'm basing it mainly on the interview he did with Stringer were he pretended to not understand English and spoke in a high pitched voice lol

No we didn't. In Ricardo's 8 games (not 9) we collected just 10 points. In Weale's previous 8 games we collected 19. Even when Weale was brought back we still picked up 11 points from 8 games, even though your idol Sven had wrecked his confidence by then.
