Kitchandro Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Can't understand why anyone would say no to this. On a free it's simple, we are a mid-table championship team, who are we going to get thats better as a target man at anything like that price? He may be past it but Villa play him on the wing, fair enough, he's crap out there but he must still have some pace fo them to put him on the wing. His pace might not show in the Prem but would in the Championship. He's exactly the type of person Nugent or Beckford need to do all the dirty work. I think he'd eat championship defences alive. What do we need a target man for? I want to see us playing good football not the long ball game. Yes it's another option but we're not that desperate for one. If we were to get a target man he'd have to be able to chip in with goals as well. If Southampton can get a striker like Lambert, who ticks both the target man and goalscorer boxes, in league one, we should be able to get similar bargains. If we can only get Heskey we are failing at bringing in the right players.
Salieri Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 He's still more than good enough for this league, it's now or never.
I am Rod Hull Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Somebody on here come up with a viable, better alternative as a target man. I can't think of one. ARGGGGGGGGGGH!!!! Have you been in a coma for the last 10 years? and do you have a TV?

We hoof it but none of our strikers have the height or strength to keep hold of the ball so it just comes back. Alternatativly we can't break down teams, so we mess around with the ball till it goes to the wings and then have to cross it and none of the strikers can win the header. I get a bit fed up of this let's play nice football, Sousa tried it and it didn't work, this isn't really the league for nice football. Sometimes you can play it, I'm not saying never play nice football, it's just a luxury I'm not bothered about anymore. I'd just rather we win and I think we need a target man for that. I think the midfield needs more money spent on it, so for a free I'd quite happily take Heskey.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 If he was going to come bavk at all it needed to be a couple of seasons ago. Now sadly a shadow of the brute who would give the best defences a going over. I agree, destined to fail like the return of Paul Dickov.
thybluefox Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 I'll take him if it means getting rid of Howard.
ScouseFox Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 He's better than Howard. Nobody with a functioning brain can even try and argue against that. So unless we go and buy a target man/striker to support Nuge/someone to hold the ball up and chip in with a few goals/a "plan b" who's actually good then yes, I'd have him.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 I'll take him if it means getting rid of Howard. Then you will be in for a massive disappointment when you realise that he is no better than Howard these days. Both good in their heyday but that was years ago. If we re-sign Hesky it will only end in tears. He can not get anywhere near the Villa starting line up and they are beyond useless up front.
I am Rod Hull Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 He never scores, he`s slow, all he does is give free kicks away and falls over easier than Bambi with roller skates on...... (I should have taken Finners advice and kept off the LCFC forum )

Howard was a regular international?? Howard was an £11m transfer at some time?? They are literally leagues apart and always have been.
Happy Fox Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Heskey would be fine at this level imo, I cannot see him being any worse than Howard.
Stand UP... Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Yes, i'd like to see him down the left wing terrorising defenders like he did VS Birmingham away about 15 years ago....BRUN'OOO
Corky Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Yes, he won't be worse than Howard. But we're looking for significantly better than Howard. As much as I admire Emile, I just don't think he is anymore.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 We don't need him we've got a fitter, younger model and he's called Ricky Sappleton. An absolute goal machine and a smashing lad to add to our smashing bunch. Anyone know where he is?

Fvcking mental, seriously.... 5 Posters mentioned Howard before Happy Fox. And presumably they mentioned Howard because if Heskey came back it would be to replace Howard as they play the same position. Fvcking Mental?

Number 6 Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Love the man and would love to see him in a Leicester shirt again. However, would prefer Fuller on a free.

The fact he was a retard may have been a big factor in his failure. Swansea played nice football. Southampton play nice football. Norwich played nice football. As did Newcastle and West Brom. Even Reading have adopted a much better playing style as time has gone on. And we've also failed this season playing boring, slow, unimaginative and sometimes downright negative football. The best teams in this league play quick football on the floor. We'll never get promoted playing hopeful one-dimensional football. To better teams in this average league is not rocket science, it's not based around the long ball game and target men, it's about pace and creativity, and scoring goals. Heskey wouldn't help us with any of those things.
Happy Fox Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 NP isn't renowned for playing 4-3-3 if we ever play that formation again we haven't got the personnel to do that effectively we would have to sign 4 players to do that a defensive midfielder a better RB, a wide forward of quality, and someone to lead the line.
Lambert09 Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 A poll would be quite interesting, people seem split. I personally wouldnt be expecting him to be any good so all he could do is surprise me. Reeks of Dickovs return....tad pointless

Southampton can, if necessary use Lambert as a target man to go long and hold it up, Norwich had Holt, Newcastle had Andy Carroll, West Brom I can't even remember and Reading have used Jason Roberts if they pretty football has failed them. We have the ever threatening and masterful Steve Howard. Heskey would improve that.
