Nugent - bu**ered up by Pearson ?

It's ever since he's been put out wide his form has dropped

Out wide - therefore - scored less - therefore - form MUST have dropped.

I can see where you're coming from; doesn't stop you being wrong though.

Nugent admitted in a interview that was on radio leicester that hes been playing on the wing and his form has dipped. but he likes to be a team man not just the lead man

i do think nugget has been effected form wise.

far too often he is in deeper positions doing donkey work when he should have a striker alongside him doing that then his pace and goalscoring would be more threatening.

Nugent is top scorer and top assister, our only problem is not having a cloning device and having to play other forwards aswell.

Marco Fuctacs - Czech Republic

Marco Futacs - Hungarian

I think you're making the first one up lol

The Pompey player is Hungarian and I have never heard of the other (oh and neither has google or wikipedia)

Like Haydos said he's nothing special anyway, hence him not getting picked for Pompey

Jesus Christ, do we really need to start making stuff up like the second part?

He was giving an opinion Babble-On, something you don't accept, unless it's your own.

You are a bad lad. Take 500 lines. lol

Weird thread

Looking at the circumstances surrounding Nugent's move away from the top 2 it comes back to Danns' suspension, when we had to patch together a midfield

"Nugent buggered by Danns' stupidity" seems more appropriate, although that doesn't allow for anti-Pearson sentiment *yawn*

There is opinion, and then just making shit up.

I think Nugent just looks knackered.

Whether this is of cause for concern? Or just because he's given his all over a long season, I don't really know...

What causes me the most concern is the apparent lack of play and understanding between the front two.

I can't recollect ANY assists between the pair of them. It's been a major problem this all season.

The best strikers are the ones who make and take goals for each other.

Sharp and Lambert being a good example. Sharp has 7 in 7, many of which have been made for him by Lambert and vice versa.

Nuge and Beckford seem to have no understanding of each others play, with the one exception being the goal at Norwich.

Even Fryatt and Big Steve had that partnership thing going on, usually to pretty good effect.

I don't think Nugent has been buggered up by Pearson though.. The lack of a front pairing was just as apparent under Sven... If not more so.

When the ball gets up to a couple of strikers who instinctively know where each other is on the pitch and can keep it between themselves, the need for exquisite midfield creativity is lessened.

Our front two have very little of this. And haven't had all season.

They did it twice at Watford, as well as the Forest cup replay (Beckford's second).

You're right Corky I forgot those examples.

Still not many for the whole season though mate?

My point still remains that they don't seem to play much between each other.

Throughout their careers both Nugent and Beckford have profited from playing with a target man. Therefore getting a target man will help.

That's true...

I would agree with those that say he looks knackered, and he is not the only one.

He didn't look effective playing out wide, but the whole team looked poor in those games, we didn't have the players to play that formation, and it cost us by dropping 5 points from games we should have won.

He needs a rest and we need more options up front, so when one player is knackered we can make changes.

Spot on...

The lack of serious options up front needed addressing in Jan (although of course I recognise this can be a tough time to find suitable players).

Howard's not good enough now. This deffo needs addressing in the summer.

I agree with all this, but I think we were unfortunate with the long-term injuries to both Vassell and Waghorn. I mean, we probably don't need to have more numbers up front next season, just a bit more luck with injuries. It's a shame we didn't have either one available for so long. Even if either had been available for just a couple of games, Nugent could have had a well earnt breather.

Tactical error from Pearson to play him out wide. Hopefully Pearson can sort out some decent service so Nugent can play in his natural position.

It's not a tactical error when you consider the alternative - a 4-4-2 with Bamba in midfield. There were good reasons for switching to 4-2-3-1/4-3-3, and moving Nugent to a less-favoured position was a small sacrifice to get a lot of benefit from shoring up a midfield ruined by injuries and suspensions. Plus, Marshall was very impressive as a central attacking midfielder during those matches.
