hbkkids Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 News Flash: Koren is having a meeting today with Hull, Hull are trying to get Koren to sign another contract but Koren wants to go to Leicester.
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-16602270-detail/story.html? HULL City hope to resolve the uncertain future of Robert Koren this weekend following crunch talks between the club and player over the last 48 hours. Koren has been the focal point of continued speculation linking him with a move away from the KC Stadium this summer, a situation heightened by the revelation of a £500,000 buy-out clause in his existing deal. Robert Koren Manager Steve Bruce admitted last week he may be "powerless" to hold on to the Slovenian. But City have attempted to finally kill off interest from Championship rivals Leicester by tabling a new and improved contract to the supporters' player of the season. Koren, who has just 12 months remaining of his current deal, is understood to have been offered increased terms on a fresh contract that would now tie him to the club until 2014. City are now hopeful the new deal will be enough to convince Koren to stay in East Yorkshire and thwart the overtures of Leicester. However, with the 31-year-old looking for a three-year deal, as opposed to City's opening offer of two, it would require one of the two parties to soften their stance. With the new Championship season just three weeks away, Bruce wants to see the issue settled and hopes clarity could be afforded over the weekend. The clear preference is to keep Koren at the KC but City are unwilling to enter into a bidding war with the financially-powerful Foxes for a player who will turn 32 in September. Koren has so far featured in all three of City's pre-season friendlies and was handed the captain's armband for the 0-0 draw at Grimsby seven days ago. The midfielder, for his part, has been tight-lipped over his next move, but City are refusing to give up hope of him committing his long-term future.
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Looks like he is our if we offer him a 3 year deal. I have my doubts that offering him that at the age he is, is a bit too much but he is very good player in the championship and prem and has that experience and guile that could make us automatic promotion contenders as opposed to the playoffs so for me, we should do it.
ithuriel Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Seems to me if that report is true his agent is playing Hull for a nice big contract
Deucalion Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Would Garry Parker have been worth a 3 year contract at 31? Yes he would.
Simmo86 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Head says no way should we be offering a 3 year deal to a near enough 32 year old! Heart says lets get one over on Hull
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 He is far superior than Richie Wellens in terms of playmaker ability and is overall a better player, bring him asap, 3 year contract is no biggie Koren plays 40 odd games a season so fitness isn't an issue.

I can't see where he fits in? Danns Drinkwater James Wellens King Koren Who goes?
Raw Dykes Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Would Garry Parker have been worth a 3 year contract at 31? Yes he would. We're not talking about Garry Parker, though. There are plenty of good players who become useless between the ages of 32 and 35. I know not all of them do, but it's much more sensible to only offer one year contracts to players near the end of their playing career.
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 I can't see where he fits in? Danns Drinkwater James Wellens King Koren Who goes? Wellens
Simmo86 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Wellens We won't be able to get rid though. Injured till October, nobody in the Champ will want a nearly past it 32 year old on decent wages and I can't see Richtea wanting to drop divisions.

kingfox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 I think we really need Koren, he would be ideal and would make us far more creative, he is a player who is capable of making us step up a level on his own. He said he wants to come, he said he would be keen to reunite with Nigel. Out of all our central midfielders, he would be our best along with Danns. Danns and Koren would be amazing, with King and James as back up. Andy King might even do better than last season, just think of the amount of goals we would be capable of from midfield if we had Gallagher, Marshall, Koren and King. Koren is the one player we need to sign.
Mark_w Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 He said he wants to come, he said he would be keen to reunite with Nigel. When?

Mark_w Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Gallagher You don't think Gallagher is a goal scoring midfielder?

Koren is the one player we need to sign. I agree with this Though Drinkwater IMO is going to become an important central midfielder for City. If Koren can stay fit, he's a class midfielder and you're right about our perennial lack of midfield creativity. Better than anyone we have at the club in terms of seeing the runs and making the killer passes quickly. A three year contract though? No... He'd be like Oakley was in his final year.. ie getting a decent salary and not playing enough to warrant it.
Simo86 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 You don't think Gallagher is a goal scoring midfielder? Didn't read it properly hence why I have edited it
kingfox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 When? Presume you don't read the Mercury then, he said he would be keen to reunite with Nigel and would be keen on a move. Last week I think it was published.

kingfox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 I don't think it was a direct quote Still maybe it was his agent, the words anyway was he would been keen on a move to reunite with Pearson. That looks positive in my view. And just to go on what Col City Fan said, Koren has always been far better than Matt Oakley, he will offer much more at the age of 35 than Matt Oakley ever did.

I wasn't comparing the two in terms of ability KF. Simply in terms of running out of puff and having greater likelihood for picking up injuries. A two year deal for Koren would be the best for the club IMO.
