Vacamion Posted 4 May 2012 Posted 4 May 2012 Ashley Cole is one of our only world class players and certainly the most consistent. But if Cole were a disruptive influence and the rest of the team suffered for his presence, I would expect a good manager to be able to spot that LB can do a job for his country and weigh that against losing Cole. I know Cole is good but Baines isn't THAT bad.
21st Century Fox Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Appoints Gary Neville to England coaching setup on 4 year contract. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/14/gary-neville-england-coaching-staff
ScouseFox Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 I've no idea if it's a transferable thing but what Gary Neville says on MNF and Super Sunday makes it seem like he knows a lot about football, and knows exactly what he's on about. If he can turn that into some sort of coaching skill (he has badges so presumably he's decent at that too), this could be a brilliant appointment.
Finnegan Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Ashley Cole is one of our only world class players and certainly the most consistent. Two or three years ago maybe, he's declining now. Good player but not irreplaceable world class. I'd say you've got Rooney and that's about it. (Yeah, yeah, still better than Wales, get over it.)
Corky Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 I think it's a good, fresh appointment. Neville knows the international game and would command the respect of the players.

Jon the Hat Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 As much as Gary annoyed the shit out of me for years, he was a good player, and I can see him being a good coach. If you are a 60+ year old manager, you need someone who has the ear of the dressing room. Not a bad shout I think.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 I have the Gary Neville orgasm noise as my alarm tone, when I wake up in the morning I'm frightened, amused, and aroused in equal measure.
whitlock Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Has he kept his job with SKY also? Couldn't stand him as a player but decent pundit!
21st Century Fox Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Has he kept his job with SKY also? Couldn't stand him as a player but decent pundit! Imagine so, the England set-up isn't usually full time.
Webbo Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 From what I've read Neville's role won't be so much as a coach but as a go between between the players and management, keeping the players on side.
