On Yer bike!

I saw two women cycling side by side the other day with a queue of about 10 cars behind them because they couldn't overtake and they were completely oblivious to all the cars behind them. Totally selfish behaviour.

Totally legal behaviour as it specifies in the Highway Code that cyclists can ride two abreast.

It may be legal, but it's still bloody selfish, if one of them had just dropped behind the other for 2 minutes all the waiting traffic could have passed.

May I add I was on my bike a bit behind them at the time and I felt sorry for the motorists.

Such a shame those drivers were slowed down for a few minutes, I don't know how they managed to console themselves with that earth-shattering event. Someone should start a Facebook group.

You'll be telling me I can't cycle with my trailer next, which occupies the same road space as two bikes, because it will force cars to slow down.

Selfish? Laughable attitude!

On busy or narrow roads and when riding round bends you have to ride single file I think.

I do agree that being slowed down for a couple of minutes isn't the end of the world however when there's a long queue of traffic I think it's fairly reasonable to go single file to let some of it pass. Even I do that in my tractor, unless the guy behind me is being a nob a beeping at me which for some reason makes my tractor go even slower.

I think your attitude stinks, your exactly the type of "look at me I'm saving the planet everyone get out of my way " kind of person that gives cyclists a bad name, I bet you cycle through red lights as well don't you?

You don't think it's selfish to delibrately slow people down for no reason at all?

Can you tell me a good reason for cycling side by side on a twisting country lane?

I'm sure it's totally legal for me to walk down the pavement with my arms outstretched, but I don't do it cos I'm not a cunt.

Drivers always seem to want to pass at the first opportunity, cycling side by side forces drivers to overtake when safe and not force you off the road.

I do a lot of cycling and usually position myself at least 3 foot from the curb when by myself. I've lost count the amount of times I've nearly got knocked off my bike when someone has tried to force their way past because I'm riding close to the curb.

What gives you the right to force anyone on the road to do something?

It seems a bit arrogant to me, you might get too close to me so i'm going to take up more of the road so you dont?

Brilliant, the same goes for drivers being cvnts as well of course.

It really shouldn't be difficult for us all to use the roads, but a combination of awful town planning, selfish/inconsiderate driving and cycling and the ridiculous situation whereby 90% of road users are all trying to use the road at the same time, turn what should be a joyous pleasant experience in to one of the biggest causes of stress in the modern world.

Absolutely. Being a cretin doesn't limit you to certain types of transport, although at times you wish it did...

The whole "cyclist shouldn't go past red lights" is the same argument as pedestrians shouldn't cross the street on a red man. If a cyclist goes past a red light it's the cyclist that is putting himself at risk. If a car goes past a red light, its not just the driver but also potential others being put at risk. I always go past red lights, if the road is clear, i'm not going to sit there on a red light and wait for it to go green. It's a lot easier for some guy in a nice warm car to press his foot down and go but when you have to pedal your arse off, you want to keep a smooth motion going constantly. So screw you guys...screw you all.

Gonna try and find out about this whole cycle to work scheme then. I work at a school, so hopefully they should be up for something like this. How did people exactly go about to getting this done?

Im afraid to say i do go thro red lights BUT ONLY normally in the mornings (my mornings are normally before 6am!) after i have checked and double checked there is no traffic coming my way or alongside me.

I aint gonna wait at a red light if theres no fukcer around for a mile!!!

On the other hand i will ALWAYS stop at red lights when commuting at "regular' hours

When on 2 wheels one puts themselves at a lot of risk,so why chance it just for a few minutes?

I also go through red lights but I will make sure it is safe to do so and won't make a danger for others. If I have to stop then I will but I hear what Raj is saying.when your pumping away at around 20mph and coming to a light to slam the breaks on may be a danger to yourself even more

Contact the HR department of the local authority you work for - they should be able to help. Failing that speak to / email payroll (contact info is usually on your payslip)... they'll be able to point you in the right direction to find out more about the scheme.

Would you be happy for cars to do that? Obviously slow down, but if it is safe and clear to go when on a red light why not?

When red lights go down sometimes people do have to think for themselves.

Im afraid with most car drivers this results in a RTC!!!

There is a difference though when a red light goes down, compared to changing the rules of driving. When a traffic light is not working when it normally is, you suddenly have to think when you are on auto pilot. I had that very problem a few months ago, driving round a large traffic controlled round-a-bout that I do very often, and always have to stop on, this time the lights were out, I just didn't know what to do, I was suddenly thinking shit, erm, what do I do, can I go?

In some european countries, like Denmark, it is legal to turn right on a red light when it is safe to do so.

Where abouts in Rothley do you live? Did you go to school there or am I right in guessing by you're name that you were in Syston at a younger age?

I fully support the wearing of Lycra and the riding of graphite cycles, they are soo much easier to see and the reduction in damage to my car is remarkable

Just bought a place on the new Charles church estate near the red lion. I lived in Anstey till the age of 16, then Syston till 25 and now Rothley. Went to Longslade and am very familiar with area and the people around here. U local finners?
