thewarmanator Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 We were advised by the mass media not to go as its they are the most racist countries on the planet and will very probably die. Oh, and didn't the local hotels and bars increase prices by around 400% to cash in??? Article in the metro this says that the bar allocated to English fans tonight are charging 4.50 pint but a bar down the road is only 1.50!! I very much doubt this is the case as the fan zone are selling pints for about £1.20 which was directly next to Wato where the England fans were based
MooseBreath Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 There haven't even been shots of England fans at fan parks and in pubs at home shown on the TV like there usually is. Maybe the media are under instruction to play this tournament down a bit in anticipation of the olympics? I suppose you wouldn't want everyone getting a huge dose of national sporting culture in the euros and then not being bothered by the olympics.
Simmo86 Posted 16 June 2012 Posted 16 June 2012 Still made more noise than 20k Swedes and the goal celebrations looked fantastic
Jon the Hat Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 The simple fact is that our cheap airlines don't fly to where we are playing in Ukraine. The Irish are there in numbers because Ryanair fly to where they are playing in Poland.

The Olympics will never overshadow the football

Thats funny, my mate went out for the day for the france game, went with the equivalent £20 and came back with change. He drinks more than most too
ADK Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 Highly doubt people didnt go because of the cost of a pint.
BlueSi13 Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 Hasnt stopped the irish. The Irish hadn't taken part in a major European tournament for 22 years, if there support had been any less than it is id have been very surprised indeed. But in terms of England it doesn't take a genius to work out that since the 2010 World Cup the country has generally felt nothing but disappointment and apathy toward the England team, we took 50,000 to South Africa, 80,000 to Germany and 70,000 to Portugal and we got very little in return for such support, so couple that with the general lack of enthusiasm for where we are playing and the lack of expectation, it was always going to be a small tournament for us in terms of travelling support. It will be interesting to see if that will change if we make it to the quarter finals, or whether the country will still be deeply pessimistic.
SystonFox Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 Sweden are playing all their games within a small distance of each other. (maybe even the one stadium im not sure) whereas England fans would have had to travel a long way to each of the 3 games. thus costing more money and putting people off
Ric Flair Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 Couple of thousand England fans in Krakow when I was there, was a right good gig. £1.25 a pint as well.
KFS Posted 17 June 2012 Posted 17 June 2012 If you watch Walcott's goal closely on the BBC website, you can see loads of fans jumping off of a wall to run towards the pitch

Guest MattP Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Great stuff, come on Sol, where is the apology for the Ukrainian people??
thewarmanator Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 I very much doubt this is the case as the fan zone are selling pints for about £1.20 which was directly next to Wato where the England fans were based I take that back! £3 for a beer in the England fans bar. As for the Ukrainian fans, they have been amazing! I got smashed with them before the match yesterday and woke up in the airport with a Ukraine flag as a quilt!
Daggers Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Sitting at home whining about Sepp Blatter to someone who doesn't care.
Out Foxed Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 big ups to those Leicester fans who got that flag in such prime position. it appears all the time on the news.
