MATTL94 Posted 3 May 2013 Posted 3 May 2013 I love FM, but have really struggled to get into this one! I have a slow laptop, so setting up a new game is such a chore! but will definitely start a save up with Leicester over the weekend though. I am just a little stumped as to how I am going to get the best out of my players in a 442, as I want to play both Knockaert and Marshall. I was thinking about lining up like this: Schmeichel De Laet Keane* Morgan Konchesky* Marshall King Drinkwater Knockaert Wood Nugent I will sign a new CB and LB, in my bid for promotion. The main worry though is that I feel that Knockaert will be wasted out on the left, and would not have as good ability on that flank. However, that is the only place I can play him to allow Marshall to progress in the starting 11, and to be able to still play Wood and Nugent up top. I suppose that I could push Knockaert and Marshall up to AMR/L respectively to allow them both to cut inside, but I would then need to sign a powerhouse of a bulldog to play alongside King and just sit there, which will give the Wingers (and King) licence to bomb on. I was just wondering really if any of you have experienced this problem, and what worked for you. PS. I am definitely going to play 4 at the back and 2 up top, so just any ideas of how to shuffle the midfield to get the best out of all of them will be appreciated. I would also like to hear of any potential signings for CB, LB and CM. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments/tips
Fox92 Posted 3 May 2013 Posted 3 May 2013 No win in 10... Got sacked. Pricks. I got them promoted and then finished mid table. Thought I deserve better. Took over Watford, in the Championship. They were 18th but I got them out of trouble with a few games left. Finished 11th. Just started my new season. Won 1, lost 2. Made massive changes in the summer, squad was so poor.
JoeyB Posted 3 May 2013 Posted 3 May 2013 anyone know a good target man i can get for WBA in my second season? lukaku, Long and Vossen have been monsters this season and have fired me to fourth, now just need a target man to replace Lukaku who is off to be a beast at chelsea next season
Ozwin Posted 3 May 2013 Posted 3 May 2013 I started a San Marino challenge. Won the Serie C Cup, got promoted to Serie B and it is absolutely impossible to sign anyone. They all walk away from contract talks as soon as I offer them my best. It's crazy. I lost my best midfielder on a free and my two best CBs last season were loanees who now have no interest in coming on loan, even though I'm a league higher...strange one I know. Fingers crossed I pull some wins out my arse.
BstarFox Posted 5 May 2013 Posted 5 May 2013 is the classic version easier than the standard version?
JoeyB Posted 5 May 2013 Posted 5 May 2013 is the classic version easier than the standard version? just the same without less interaction in the game, just more about managing, playing and going through as quick as you can
BstarFox Posted 5 May 2013 Posted 5 May 2013 just the same without less interaction in the game, just more about managing, playing and going through as quick as you can Strange, i had a save with leicester on classic and did well finishing 1st in the championship and then 9th in the premier league but i lost the save and decided to do it on standard, playing the same tactic made the same signings and im in January currently 10th

Cruss5 Posted 6 May 2013 Posted 6 May 2013 2nd season with city after finishing 7th. No money at all so had to sell all of my players near enough. Doesn't look good for the season and i reckon i'll get sacked.
Fox92 Posted 6 May 2013 Posted 6 May 2013 Going through another poor run of form. Got all the way to third, a point behind second, and now drew two games and lost one. To teams all near the bottom Dropped down to 6th, with Hull to play next. They are 7th.
ADK Posted 8 May 2013 Posted 8 May 2013 It's official, i must be the worst player at Fm2013. Can't seem to get my players to do basic football right and i'm really not sure what i'm doing wrong. Alot of players just dwell on the ball until they either get tackled or the opponent concedes a free kick, the ball often ends up being hoofed from the defense or the goalkeeper which then falls to the opponent most of the time. In contrast the computer team often creates triangles and strokes the ball around until they create a chance, it's very rare that they pass the ball to someone marked or just stand there with their back to goal until they get tackled or kick it out of play. Can't seem to find the reason for this.
Finnegan Posted 8 May 2013 Posted 8 May 2013 Sounds to me like your team are unfamiliar with your tactic or you're playing with contradictory instructions. Assuming your tactic is sound, resist the urge to tinker, stick it out and make sure you dedicate a reasonable amount of training time to getting them used to your formation.

That actually has worked quite well. Creating more chances than the opposition most of the time now.

To teams all near the bottom Dropped down to 6th, with Hull to play next. They are 7th. Ended up winning four/five games in a row, but now lost four in a row again. Dropped from 6th to 8th, gutted, with only 9 games to go. Two points off 6th now but Reading in top form... Just lost 5-2 to Rochdale, and 3-0 at home to Crewe, both poor teams in the divison. Not sure why I win five then lose five.
NGoloMode Posted 10 May 2013 Posted 10 May 2013 Finally played a game with Leicester City and I've finished 2nd but in my first transfer window as a premier league club i've got near enough £0 transfer budget.. whats going on
ADK Posted 10 May 2013 Posted 10 May 2013 What tactics are people using with Leicester? I've tried 5 seasons now in total and been sacked in 4 and made one 10th place finish.
morris1234 Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 After getting the utd job, rebuilt them from their poor 8th/9th finishes and won the league, FA cup and champs league with ease!!! 3-5-2 modified formation and was beating the best in Europe 5,6,7-0 away! Too easy now tbh!
NGoloMode Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 What tactics are people using with Leicester? I've tried 5 seasons now in total and been sacked in 4 and made one 10th place finish. 4-4-2 worked pretty well for me. Wood and Schlupp up front in TM and P roles. Brought in Pratley on loan to be a ball winning midfielder with James as cover and King and Drinkwater rotating as DLP.
Fox92 Posted 11 May 2013 Posted 11 May 2013 Messed my season up real bad! Was 3rd and 4th, as I posted, but went on a horrible run towards the end up of the season and missed out on the play offs. Lost to Hull, Forest, Palace, Pompey, Crewe and Rochdale amond other teams. Ridiculous. Not sure why my defence was so bad either. Need to sort that out, but I'm no good at signing decent goalkeepers.

Positioning, anticipation, handling, reflexes, aerial, rushing & jumping are the key stats to worry about. Good composure & decision making are handy too. Don't worry if he can't kick or throw. Problem is finding someone with at least passable levels in all those stats who is a) willing to go to Leicester and b) any way affordable. I usually just make do with an average-to-poor keeper until I have the readies.
potter3 Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 Haven't really played this since 2008, wasn't keen on 09 or 10, has it changed much since?
Night Air Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 How you can consider playing it after today is beyond me!
