Football Manager 2013

Right well we lasted the season at Sedan! Reduced the wage bill by about £20,000 p/w while bringing in some youth and some decent players. The players that I've kept are a year older and are improving all the time (I think Naim Sliti is the most well known) and after 5 games of the new season, we're 2nd with 11 points.

A narrow 4-2-3-1 is working well, slightly varied it by dropping one of the two in centre midfield slightly deeper as he plays best in DM as an anchor man. I think this may have made a difference as we've only conceded 1 so far. Long may this form continue!

Unsurprisingly lost my next game 3-1 away to the team second bottom lol

A lack of squad depth will be my undoing. We've only got one decent LB, and I can see us struggling to score goals. There's no playoff system in the French second tier either, just the top 3 teams (20 overall) going up, so it's a challenge to get out. We'll do well to get up this year, but it's not impossible. Just got to hope we get enough goals.

Oh my fvcking God.

I just conceded a pen which saw De Laet sent off for a 2nd yellow in a match against P'boro which we were dominating.  They scored the penalty which turned out to be the winning goal.  To make things worse I blasted the decision after the match and the FA stayed silent over it and the newspaper report stated clearly that the officials got the decision wrong.

We were doing a good job of catching up to the playoffs too, but that's 3 big points lost (P'boro have now leapfrogged me in the league as well).

Fvck you hard FM.

What you talking about "ignore friendlies"?  They're your best opportunity to experiment with formations without having to worry about fvcking up.  You so crazy.

Friendlies tell you effectively **** all. Put a tactic together that makes good sense to you and have your team learn it, you should be fine.

I like to arrange my friendlies for some reason but not once have I controlled one. I have this weird tradition at Sparta of inviting Red Bull Salzburg for a friendly every winter/summer break. Also like to arrange tours of South Africa/USA/China/Hong Kong/Brazil/Australia

I suppose since I'm still on FMC mode, I can't get my assistant to handle friendlies--either that, or I'm too stupid to figure out how to do that.

My first friendly of the new season was vs. Man City at home in a shameless attempt to make a little money.

Joe Hart scored from midway inside his own half. Good times.

I haven't really bothered with this FM after everytime i started a new game i just could not seem to become succesful as i was on the other FM's, but after recently purchasing a new laptop i decided to go in depth and take a look at what was going wrong. What i found out was that with the other FM's you could find a formation and tactic that would work with any team but on FM13 it doesn't work like that i found out that each player needs a role but you can find out what role suits them best, for example a certain player would be best suited as a advanced playmaker but play him in a anchor man role and you wont get the performances from that player. You have also got to not over use the tactics option unless they match each other for example you can't use direct football with control.

It finally started to click when i decided to start a game with Huddersfield now the objective for that season was to survive, so i took a look at the side and decided i was going to play a narrow diamond (not an awful lot of money and poor wingers in the squad) i made one signing for the season and that was Guy Moussi to fill the anchor man role which he does a brilliant job of. The back four didn't need to be played around with and no additions needed, i rotate Danns and Clayton in the CAM role as an advanced playmaker and my two CM play box to box and deep lying playmaker. I have James Vaughan and Jermaine Beckford as my two strikers who will score goals all day long (Vaughan already has 14 in January), so here it was Millwall away first game of the season fully fit squad all my tactics in place and we snatch a 1-0 win. Next game is upon us and its Leeds at home we get a late equaliser to draw 2-2, I'm thinking to myself not a bad start but then it all goes down hill losing 3-0 2-0 and 4-0 to bottom half teams but i didn't press the panic button i always take a close look at the stats at the end of a game now if your playing attacking fluid short football you should be keeping the ball and making chances, if your not then something is wrong and them tactics don't suit but for me i was averaging 54% possesion a game and easily having 6-8 shots on target so something was working but just weren't finding the results. I was also conceding a lot from corners so i decided to set the majority of my players to man mark instead of just marking a "tall player" and that seemed to solved that problem, i was now sitting around 17th which i thought would be ok but then i grabbed a 1-0 win against Watford and went on a 6 game winning streak and a 10 game unbeaten run beating many top sides.

I do some of the training myself and work on tactics and ball work mostly which seems to have paid off and i play to our strengths instead of making the team play to how i want again seems to have worked, I'm currently in January I'm sat 6th in the table and 7 points off the top but i just can't wait for an international break because we have a small squad they are getting tired and with having a few injuries it doesn't help but looking good as it stands the board have offerd me a bit more money as i changed the expectations so going to bring a couple of back up players in this transfer window.

2019 with Newcastle now. Going to win my seventh title in a row. Such a young team still, its how i always play fm.

Liverpool are 19th with like nine games left so want them to go down.

Most my team are regens except Krul, Caulker, Jones, Lukaku, Destro and Rode.

Won the league and CL again.

Liverpool went down came 19th and were shit. Won every game in the Championship this season though. I've made £160m in transfers this summer giving all my youngsters a chance bar a few experienced guys.

FM is utter nonsense when it comes to referee criticism lol always has been.

Have you played it all? Or skipped some?

Do any real players become top managers?

In all my time I think i've been on holiday for four games in total, at the end of the season where I was ****ed off with bad form and had nothing to play for. John Terry has done the rounds at top clubs (i even pipped him to the chelsea job lol) Jay Rodriguez, James Tomkins and Josh Lillis (former Scunny keeper) have all been England manager. Messi is now a manager somewhere. Matt Fry (West Ham) and Paul Robinson (Millwall) both went on to get top jobs. A guy who started at Antwerp on loan from Man Utd in 12/13 is now manager of Real Madrid

Since I posted this, we've lost 6/8 and I'm stumped as to how to turn it round. We've got decent players, but we just leak goals and don't score that many. A bad combination I must admit.

After a hugely successful FM12, I've had a mare this year.

Bloody hell, I started as PSG and cannot buy a win, this is the biggest embarrassment of my life in FM.

Wish I had a similar save on FM13. I remember in FM 12 I had quite a similiar record with Porto was there for at least 10 years. I always like to become an icon/legend even though I know a lot of people won't be like that lol. Went to Juve for 4 months and got sacked I thought it was down hill from then on. Got the Sampdoria job after finding the right regens managed to get back to back to back Serie A titles. Returned to Porto won the champions league and basically retired.

lol so frustrating. I wouldn't mind but my penalty taker has 17 penalty taking, 16 finishing and 18 composure so he shouldn't be particularly useless.

I would assume that players with 20 penalty taking, 17-20 composure and 17-20 finishing would rarely, if ever, miss. However, I've found that FM sticks up two fingers to that ever since I started playing it. It actually became so bad a few years back that I was convinced 20-penalty takers were in fact WORSE than say 16-17, so I actually picked those to kick penos instead of the best ones.

On another note, it's just occurred to me that I might have one of the best, if not the best, regen on my books I've ever had. He just has the right stats all over for an AMC. And apparently he still has a whole 'star' left on his potential ability!

He's pretty incredible, if I remember, I'll show you "Phil" when I get home (his name is something like Phetsamone Philavanh, a Laotian descended French international.) Best regen I've ever had, similar stat spread to your guy but a striker.

Posted

Oh and your guy seriously needs a mentor!!

Yup, but it's not feasible. He's already a key member and I won't fork out 30 mil to get Dzagoev or someone else with high det/wr stats that would be able to mentor him. Do we know whether a mentor needs the same natural position as the mentee to be succesful? Used to be like that...

Posted

I used to hugely underestimate the effect of mentoring until recently (by that I mean the last 3 versions lol.)

The only thing that really matters is personality and then it's hard to predict. It isn't a great system but, rule of thumb, as long as the tutor is no more than about 5 determination points above it should work unless their ambition or professionalism are miles apart.

Position is only relevant because of prefered moves (you wouldn't want an AMC with poor finishing teaching your ST to pass instead of shoot.)

Otherwise a defensive, hard tackling DMC with 17 determination and a bit of competency in AMC could be a great mentor for a ST with some skill at AMC.

Currently one of the best tutors in my Betis squad is Andile Jali, a squad player with 16 det who has done wonders for two of my regen forwards because he's professional and hard working.

Reputation is only important really if your regen has become an instant world class reputation player and your squad are all crap. Otherwise, just lower his squad status, wait a few turns and someone with a higher squad status should be able to mentor him.
