foxfanazer Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Spain to win World Cup 2014 - 7/2 Spain to win Euro 2016 - 4/1 Double - 21.5/1 (Want more than that for the double to tempt me) Yeah I'd want 33's to stick £20 on
MC Prussian Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Fair play to Spain, they bossed the game for most parts and showed some incredible and slick skills with the ball once more. The pass that led to Jordi Alba's goal... oh my, what vision. Italy had more possession in the first half once they were 1-0 behind, but only because Spain just let them be. Feel a bit for them, but they just couldn't cope with the quality of the opposition, Balotelli often left alone up front (didn't look particularly interested, anyway). They were lacking a proper central offensive midfielder and the loss of Chiellini early on in the first half showed. I'm not the biggest fan of the Spanish national side, but tonight they deserved to win the title.
Captain... Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I'm not embarrassed by thinking that Spain were boring. To at least some extent, I thought they were boring in every match (even against Ireland) up to the final, stultefyingly so against Croatia and Portugal (for 90 mins). Doesn't mean I'm clueless, just means I've got a different opinion to you. More fool you for thinking that only your viewpoint is valid. Erm, well, your opinion has just been proved wrong. The reason why all those comments were clueless is because Spain have shown time and time again that they are the best team in the world, and play exciting attacking great to watch football. They may not have been at their brilliant best all tournament but have shown in patches how good they were. So to dismiss them as boring because of a couple of very professional performances against Croatia and France and a game against Portugal where they were the better team but were frustrated and harried by a good side. They've proven they can play just as well without a recognised striker arguably better, especially if that strikes is negredo. They are innovators and revolutionaries as well as being the best footballers. Don't forget they went into the tournament without their record goal scorer, villa.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Nobody said Spain were crap, just boring. Would be nice of you to join Spain in getting down from your high horse. Edit: and I could just as easily argue that your opinion that Spain aren't boring was proved wrong by the Croatia game. One game proves nothing.

Guest ttfn Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 3 tournaments on the trot proves a lot though. Yes, that they are a great side. Literally nobody is arguing with that.
Filbert_Ross Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Yes, that they are a great side. Literally nobody is arguing with that. i wish England could be one 3rd as boring.

ADK Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Spain raised their game tonight and deserved the victory. Still they didnt play that way throughout the tournament. Had that Croat put away an easy header they might have gone out in the group stage, they also needed penalties to beat portugal. They are clearly the best team in Europe however when playing at their best.

Neither does one tournament, where they were missing their record goalscorer, they have been one of the best sides to watch for the last 6 years, it is suddenly fashionable to accuse them of being boring, despite winning the tournament, scoring the most goals in the tournament, highest goals per game, only Italy have a better chances per game ratio. (which is surprising but they probably have England and Ireland to thank for that.) They have played this way for years and have been exciting to watch for years, maybe this tournament they were more professional, conserving energy rather than putting teams like Croatia and France to the sword, that and teams are setting up to try and counteract their game. I have not been bored once whilst watching them play, I love the way they keep the ball, pass and probe and if it doesn't work, then pass it back draw out the defence then try again, so much nicer to watch than get it wide, bomb it down the flanks and whip a cross in. Then they do the same.

Then they do the same. In your opinion. For me i've rarely been entertained by Spain's style of play. The majority of the time i've watched them its been a thousand short sideways or backwards passes in order to keep possession for possessions sake, all in the aim of grinding their opponents down via boredom in order to erode their way to a win. Tonight in the second half proved what those players are capable off if they actually went out for the kill. Best team in the tournament/world? Sure, most probably. Though as an earlier poster mentioned, if the Croat had buried his point blank header toward the end of their game against them, Spain would have been knocked out. Most entertaining team to watch in the tournament? No. Tonight they were excellent but the Germans took that title easily imo, albeit they badly let themselves down against the Italians.

Personally I thought the Russians and the Croats were fairly entertaining, the Germans against Greece were quality though

It is not possession for possession's sake, I'm not even sure what that means, it is about not floating in aimless cross and giving the ball away, it is about not blazing wildly over from 30 yards and giving possession back to the opposition. It is also about disrupting the opposition, not boring them, but frustrating them, pulling them out of position and making them work hard for the ball and not giving it away cheaply (England take note). What I find Spain excel at even more than passing is winning the ball back, and doing it quickly and high up the pitch, it is one of the reasons that Torres has fallen out of favour, he doesn't work hard enough to win the ball back and will either lose the ball or score. Today they played the same way they have played all tournament, the main difference was Italy not flooding the midfield with holding players and, arguably foolishly, playing their own game and actually attacking Spain.
Captain... Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 Silva was born in Arguineguín, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, to Fernando Jiménez, a former municipal police officer who eventually was responsible for the safety of the Valencia CF stadium, and Eva Silva. His father, Fernando, is Canarian while his mother, Eva, is of Japanese descent, confirmed in an interview by his family members to the Canarian media.[3][4] Silva has two younger siblings, sister Natalia and brother Nando[citation needed]. He is commonly called by the nickname Chino (Spanish for "Chinese") due to his physical appearance.[citation needed]
Jaspa Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 I just thought his features looked very Japanese Whos the woman seated ? And his dad reminds me of Ryan Giggs
Reynard Bleu Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 Nando appears to be Japanese naval officer. Bright lad?
MooseBreath Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 I don't know what is more boring, spain's football, the people accusing spain of being boring, or the people who are now saying that they knew spain weren't boring all along and everyone who thought they were are clearly idiots.

Corky Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 Not surprising. Didn't ITV get beaten by Sky when they both had the cup final?
Matt Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 I think the only channel ITV would beat when it comes to football coverage (or Sport coverage in general) is Channel 5.
Filbert_Ross Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 ITV had better pundits in Keane and Carragher, bbc could do with some people like that instead of them dullards Shearer and Hansen.
