Judging a driver by their car.

When I bought my dodgey old Rover 25 a few months ago my mums partner said that "it'll rot like a carrot" - turns out the old nostradamus was right!

Ah well, another motor to run into the ground.

Hats off to anyone who can pose in a 2CV or Renault 4.

This is France.

2CV is the height of chic cool and the Renault is the new 2cv.

Volkswagen Golf drivers are the worst i've experienced. I don't quite know why but it is uncanny the amount of times i see bad driving and it turns out to be a Golf.

BMW drivers are pretty bad, usually going too fast at junctions or will pull out to overtake you when you are doing the speed limit anyway.

Any "aspirational" car is likely to be driven with contempt for other road users as though the fact they spent half their life savings on a lump of metal gives them priority.

An SUV driven by a female is probably going to be driven badly and was bought because she didn't want to be the one injured in a collision.

A "sports" SUV probably combines most of the above.

Just maybe people want a nice car, can afford it and get one. Why the hate people?

There are plenty of nice cars that these people could have that don't conform to type. For instance, people who drive proper sports cars - fine, they always seem to know how to drive for some reason. Lexus drivers, fine. Jags, Astons, fine. Maserati, Alfa, lovely.

Nice cars aren't the preserve of dickheads - other people have alternatives.

Audi - arrogant dickhead, will cut you up/try to run you over to save 2 seconds. No chance of being let in.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Matt Mills had an Audi! lol

How has no-one mentioned Micras?? Anyone driving one is guaranteed to be beyond awful. Never had this theory disproven whenever I've seen one in action.

What about smart car drivers, I would say normally cheap skates but very cautious drivers as they know they would come off second best to a push bike.

I have a Smart (and a pug 407). Not sure at all on your observation?

- Cheapskate? Mine was around 11k OTR (and for a standard model), which seems quite expensive to me for a very small city car?

- Caution drivers? Maybe, I'm certainly not, it's a pretty nippy car around town. Other smart drivers I know aren't what I'd describe as "cautious" either.

- Come off second best to a push bike??? How can you drive one into a concrete wall at 70mph and still open the doors fine then?

What about the Honda Jazz?

Normally driven down the motorway/duel carriageway at 40 mph by someone with white/blue hair sitting far to close to the steering wheel squinting cause they can't see with a shit scared look on their face? Usually with right indicator on for no reason. Get a lot of them on the run from wrexham to Llandudno...

Not sure if this proves or disproves the point, but in a lot of cases business drivers are choosing their car from a very small list. Cars with high residual values like BMW and Audi often cost similar amounts for a company to lease as say a Vauxhall. Consequently on my car list at work, you see a choice of a Vauxhall Zafiras or a BMW 3 series. The BMW is much more efficient than anything else of that size so looks very good value. FYI the BMW 5 series 520d has Lower emissions than a Toyota prius.

What can I drive that doesn't make me some sort of willy puller?

Fair point!!

But I think we're all wankers in our own little way........just some more than others

Most good ones have been pointed out already, but I think people have missed an obvious one - pretty much ANY people carrier more than 10 years old - car is always damaged and driver doesn't have a clue how roads work. Steer clear.

I think an attitude change would help first. :P

Biggest wankers on the road:

Anyone who owns a Range Rover Sport or a German car.

Anyone who belongs to a car owners club.

Anybody doing the school run.

People who can't park.

People who park in disabled bays but aren't disabled.

People who park over footpaths, double yellows, in front of drives or on top of cycle paths.

Horsebox drivers.

White vans of all sizes.

Taxis.

Buses.

Anybody with tissues, soft toys or humorous stickers in the rear window.

Any car containing 4 to 5 cap-wearing chavs (it will have no insurance).
